Which movies have the best cast ever?

I'm watching The Godfather which has to include one of the greatest casts ever. Marlon Brando, Robert Duvall, Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, John Cazale, James Caan etc. The star power is just crazy and even the actors in the smaller roles are all so perfect for their characters. I can't think of one performance that I didn't enjoy.

The Green Mile is another for me.

Which films do you think have the best casting?

Con Air

I haven't seen The Player. I'll have to check that out.

I'm so embarrassed that I didn't include Casablanca in my OP.

A Bridge Too Far
The Great Escape
Towering Inferno

@AlecTrevelyan006 Agree completely with your choices. I especially love A Bridge too Far, which I don't think did too well at the box office, sadly. Although I must admit I think it's the only time I have ever been disappointed in a performance from Gene Hackman. I thought he was incapable of turning in a less than compelling performance.

Beauty and the Beast...all except Emma Watson as Belle which I appreciate is a fairly big role 😂😂

But Gaston, Mrs Potts and Lafue were perfectly cast.

notimagain · 23/12/2022 20:26

A niche one for the Francophones...

"Juste la Fin du Monde.."

Nathalie Baye
Marion Cotillard
Lea Seydoux
Vincent Cassel

and the sadly and tragically late Gaspard Ulliel...

JamSandle · 23/12/2022 20:27

Gladiator was expertly cast.

HeddaGarbled · 23/12/2022 20:32

Sense & Sensibilty - the Emma Thompson one.

Gosford Park !

Lord of the Rings. Perfect casting all round. Wouldn't change a single actor.

Not such a big fan of the Hobbit movies but it still had great casting. Martin Freeman was fantastic as Bilbo.

Agree with both of these. The casting couldn't have been better.

@jinglebells22 I loved Emma Watson in the role and liked Dan Stevens as the beast. I felt he was a bit old for her even though there’s only 8 years between them. Maybe it’s a subconscious thing where she is Hermione and he is Matthew Crawley. Agree the rest of the casting is spot on.

Speaking of which, Harry Potter was well cast with lots of big names that fit the roles well. There could not have been a better Snape or Hagrid.

Not a movie but TV, Sherlock. Perfection.

Love actually divides people nowadays due to the fact that it isn’t woke but it has a fab cast.

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell and Frances McDormand are all brilliant in it.

I know people hated it but I thought the golden compass (his dark materials) was brilliantly casted.

The Longest Day

Great cast list, but a few of them were terribly miscast, e.g. John Wayne.
I'm not counting Richard Todd as miscast for choosing not to play himself.
