Bastard Tesco Wrapping Paper

Ok, I get that it's great to not have plastic wrapping. It's a great idea. What is not a great idea is having a "peel here" label that doesn't bloody peel!!!

WTF is all that about?

Not only does it not peel, it appears that they use my mother's mashed potato as their glue, cause believe me, this fucker isn't coming off.

I have 3 bastard rolls of the stuff too. Is it too early for wine?

I had the same issue - I swore a lot.

Lovesnowforever · 23/12/2022 12:19

Yes I had the same. I bought the ice skating print and it was rubbish. It was so thin, kept ripping up and I couldn’t even opened the roll to start it..

dementedpixie · 23/12/2022 12:19

I had this issue with 1 of my rolls. Other ones peeled OK. Think it says there is extra paper so that when it doesn't peel you just cut that strip off

DDivaStar · 23/12/2022 12:19

O yes sainsburys are like this too but their sticker is much smaller.

I am currently irrationally irritated by the little tails on bows....

OneCup · 23/12/2022 12:19

I know. Same here.

OrlandointheWilderness · 23/12/2022 12:20

Literally just doing the same!!!! I've discarded it in disgust and moved onto the M&S stuff which actually does peel 😂
I'm driving later or I would SO have wine.

Upsidedownagain · 23/12/2022 12:20

I only had this issue with one of the rolls I bought. Annoying, but it's cheap so I just cut off the ruined bit and carried on.

Tig33 · 23/12/2022 12:21

I hope that one isn’t like the Tesco one I have. Sellotape doesn’t stick to it. So you wrap the present. Turn around, and the sellotape has unstuck. I have had to use ribbon or string to hold the wrapping on.

WouldJudasLeaveIt · 23/12/2022 12:22

I've bought some from Next and it does say on the packaging that they've made allowances for the sticky ruined bit, so you still get the length you've paid for. So wasteful though.

BCBird · 23/12/2022 12:22

I know exactly what u mean. My other bug bear is there are not any lids on large yoghurts pots. 🙈

closingscore · 23/12/2022 12:22

There was a thread the other day on here, apparently you're meant to heat the sticker with a hairdryer...

Afterfire · 23/12/2022 12:24

I hate this as well. Surely there has to be a better way?? Recyclable plastic packaging or something. It’s horrible the way it is now.

@BCBird these are a good fit for the lidless yoghurt pots! amzn.eu/d/04xSgcD

Mumlifedc · 23/12/2022 12:27

Gave up with the unpeelable peel here stickers hacked into it with scissors cut down too far too many layers in the roll was able to wrap some items with the peices this created. Binning the other rolls as I can't get into them either off to find useable wrapping paper.

Syrax · 23/12/2022 12:29

3 rolls of this bastard stuff I had to tackle yesterday. I would have had wine but it was 9am….

Completely ridiculous.

Ain’t no one got time for that shit.

I’ll just buy elsewhere in future.

You should hear DH swearing about this each evening as he’s preparing his overnight oats. All it seems to have achieved is the aforesaid swearing, and a lot of yogurt smeared all over the kitchen, which takes him ages to eradicate.

I promise I have never ever giggled to myself while he’s at it. I promise.

OrlandointheWilderness · 23/12/2022 12:46

I don't own a ruddy hairdryer! 😂

TheLizardQueen · 23/12/2022 12:59

OMG I had this issue, bought 6 rolls of it too!! Tiny bits of paper and glue everywhere trying to get the labels off (and there’s bloody FOUR labels on each roll) there was swearing!

dontgobaconmyheart · 23/12/2022 13:07

Wouldn't it have been easier to just cut a a line off across the roll where the label ended and crack on? Obviously the label is rubbish and its daft but you wouldn't lose much relative to the entire roll.

It's all going in the bin at some point and isn't recyclable with sellotape on anyway (and possibly isn't regardless)

Margo34 · 23/12/2022 13:10

Oh no! I bought the same stuff as you this year, but actually haven't had to open it so might take it back if it's that awful! I saved the paper discarded from last year's gifts and recycled it for this year, had totally forgotten it was nearly folded in the bottom of the Xmas decs box!

Xanadu58 · 23/12/2022 13:14

Urgh! I've wrestled with these this week too ! Why couldn't it just be a cardboard sleeve slipped over the middle section of the roll ?

Choconut · 23/12/2022 13:15

I bought some birthday wrapping paper in dark blue (no pattern) from Tesco and every time I tried to wrap with it it got white lines where you wrapped it around edges. It looked awful, I wouldn't buy from there again.

Bought some Christmas paper from Lidl, a quid a roll and it's nice and thick and much better quality.

lollipoprainbow · 23/12/2022 13:21

I had the same then realized there was a covering of paper over the roll if that makes sense ?!

birdling · 23/12/2022 18:37

I nearly started a thread on the same thing. So glad it's not just me.
