Is it me or is this year's Christmas tv offering worse than usual?

I'm looking forward to Motherland tonight and Inside No. 9 but other than that it seems a bit lacking?

Will watch Dr who and the Death in Paradise special.

StarsOnDress · 23/12/2022 10:15

@Whatsnewpussyhat Oh, didn't realise Doctor Who was on! Is it New Years?

Unbelievably crap. Glad I didn’t waste over £5 for the Christmas Radio Times!

The new Motherland Christmas Special is on tonight!
BBC 1 at 9.30. Can't wait!

stilldumdedumming · 23/12/2022 10:51

New dectectorists !! Boxing Day I think

ChestnutGrove · 23/12/2022 10:58

I remember there was a post saying the same last year but I'd gone through all the radio times highlights and ended up enjoying lots of good programmes.

DinosApple · 23/12/2022 11:32

We're looking forward to the Ghosts Christmas special, Detectorists, Count Magnus, Inside No 9, maybe the Canterville ghost. Always a spooky theme to our Christmas viewing!

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 23/12/2022 18:35

Detectorists, Motherland, Gone Fishing, Mayflies - for me, it feels like the best selection of Christmas viewing there's been for ages! But everyone's tastes are not the same as mine I know.

Me too!

All Creatures Great and Small tonight

Iamsashafierce2 · 23/12/2022 19:48

I was actually thinking it's looking quite good! I'm really looking forward to the boy, the mole, the fox and the horse (not sure if I've got the order right!), The wheel Christmas special and call the midwife+ strictly. I like that they play old films too (like Mary Poppins and Ghostbusters. My DC love Wallace and gromit too which they are playing

Meltinthemiddle · 26/12/2022 22:54

My god it's unbelievably shit! Even Motherland hasn't lived up to expectation this year. No decent films or dramas. I've seen everything on Netflix and prime apart from anything that looks shit.

toomuchlaundry · 26/12/2022 22:57

Have you watched Ghosts @Meltinthemiddle?

I don't think I have actually. What channel is that?

toomuchlaundry · 26/12/2022 23:02

It was on BBC1 on Christmas Day, so will be on iplayer

SequinsandStilettos · 26/12/2022 23:06

Loved Ghosts, Motherland, The Cleaner on BBC iplayer and Glass Onion on Netflix.

iPreferBooks · 26/12/2022 23:07

There is no new Doctor Who until the 60th anniversary - the BBC did release a trailer for it on Christmas day though :)

Oblomov22 · 26/12/2022 23:09

Motherland and the boy/mole were shite, disappointing. Dud think the offering generally was very poor.

foxlover47 · 26/12/2022 23:10

I just finished the detectorists and really enjoyed that

pastypirate · 26/12/2022 23:17

Canterville ghost was fab - family friendly and the kids loved it. I remember the Gielgud version as a child and I was delighted with it.

Motherland was funny and sad.

Everything else.....hmmmm. Will give ghosts a go now though

mamaduckbone · 26/12/2022 23:22

We loved the Ghosts Christmas special but that's about all we've watched.
Started Glass Onion on Netflix tonight and will watch the rest tomorrow - quite silly but strangely compelling.

GoodVibesHere · 26/12/2022 23:26

The boy the fox mole horse thing was awful. Every sentance was a message, ughh.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/12/2022 23:27

Watched Ghosts, Call the Midwife and Death in Paradise. E joyed all three.

LibertyLily · 26/12/2022 23:40

We don't like Ghosts, Call the Midwife, Doc Martin or Death in Paradise and have never seen Motherland. Watched the first part of The Canterville Ghost but found it a bit boring. We really enjoyed Detectorists, Count Magnus (love M R James and Mark Gatiss) and Inside No 9 though. Overall not terribly impressed, but not surprised tbh.

JustCakeInDrag · 26/12/2022 23:46

This has been an annual complaint for as long as I can remember.

Ghosts was wonderful.
