Good Morning All! What are your plans for the day?

I'm just enjoying my first cuppa of the day, watching the birds flit to and from the huge sycamore at the end of my garden.

I've not got much planned for the day; I want to marzipan our Christmas cake, and clean the downstairs loo. And, I was given a HUGE bag of veg last night so I'll properly investigate that, & blanche and freeze any that won't be used soon.

I need to wrap one present too, but will wait and see if any of the other three arrive today first.

I might spend the afternoon crocheting in peace - I don't think the girls were fussed about doing much but we'll see when they get up.

Not sure what's for tea yet, I'll look shortly.

What about you? 🌲

Feeling rubbish as have some sort of cold/fluey thing. Need to summon up energy to have a shower.

Also need to marzipan cake. And wanted to make stuffing. And wrap presents. Not sure how much I will actually achieve. Cleaners are in later too so need to do a tidy around so they can clean. It’s not too bad though so should be ok.

TroysMammy · 21/12/2022 09:06

My annual haircut then work. I'm dreading both. At least at the hairdressers I won't be sorting out someone else's stupid mistakes.

Decafflatteplease · 21/12/2022 09:08

Morning @lucysmam we are celebrating the solstice here and the return of the light.

Some children still at school some off.

Meeting mil for coffee and cake this morning.

This evening we are out for dinner then lighting our solstice candles we made on the summer solstice.

cuminpotato · 21/12/2022 09:09

Working all day and a wedding dress appointment this evening

Natsku · 21/12/2022 09:10

Going to the pharmacy to pick up my antibiotics (hopefully I'll be well in time for Christmas now), also got to get frozen pizza from the shop because the other shop that I booked my online order with didn't have the pizza that DD likes. Probably will take the recycling to the recycling bins at the same time.

Later on I need to make another batch of fudge for presents, and wrap the last few presents. And roast a chicken for dinner which is hopefully the last proper meal I'm cooking until Christmas.

DD's last day of school, only in for two hours (which always seems a bit pointless to me but that's how they do the last day of term) so going to celebrate the end of term with some Christmas chocolates when she gets home at midday.

Breathmiller · 21/12/2022 09:11

Morning lucysmam.(did you find your cheese?).

I have my youngest's show today then also celebrating the Solstice later at an event I'm leading.

Happy Solstice everyone.

lurchermummy · 21/12/2022 09:13

Well I'm pissed off as my last client before Christmas cancelled so I've lost a days wages. So I'll just clean the house and catch up with some paperwork instead but I'd rather have had the money!

lucysmam · 21/12/2022 09:16

@Breathmiller no, not a clue where it's gone. Probably the bin, or the kids 🤷‍♀️ At least it wasn't one of the Christmas ones though!

lucysmam loving that you’re doing these all week 😁

We are spending the week doing family stuff, which at the moment translates to DH and I are still in bed and the children are playing 🤣 but later will mean bowling and a meal out together.

i need to go out for a few random essentials like washing up liquid later. Which is annoying because we did a big shop and thought we’d covered everything, but typical, there’s always something missed.

At lease with eating out no one has to cook, which is by far my most hated part of every day 🤣

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 21/12/2022 09:32

First day of holidays for me - no work until Tuesday the 4th! Woohoo!
On call for volunteering today (NHS related) but really need to pick up booze order from Majestic, do the last local Christmas cards with DH, wrap presents and buy lottery tickets for Christmas crackers before picking DD up from Gatwick this evening for Christmas.

Obviously I'll be keeping an eye on Mumsnet throughout.

FourChimneys · 21/12/2022 09:37

Work, tidying, gardening. Also celebrating the solstice with a nice meal and quiet time outdoors.

troppibambini6 · 21/12/2022 09:38

Morning @lucysmam and everyone else. I'm in bed with a bit of a hangover as was out with friends for dinner last night.
I need to
Go to Aldi
Tidy up a bit as cleaners coming
Pick up a gift voucher and finish hamper
Drop hampers off
Change 3 lightbulbs
Wrap 2 presents
Help dh load the car for the tip

How much of all that will get done who knows? Grin

mondaytosunday · 21/12/2022 09:46

Ooooo @cuminpotato how exciting! I was just thinking yesterday about my own wedding dress and how much I'd have to loose to fit back into it (got married 20 years ago)!
So I've had my cup of tea and crawled back into bed. Texted back and forth with my son (he doesn't live with me) as yet again his motorcycle has failed to start and so his 20 minute commute to work has turned into an hour bicycle and bus journey so he will be late again. Mostly commiserating but secretly thinking stop getting these cool vintage bikes and get a brand new functioning one!
I had visitors yesterday so did a massive tidy in the morning downstairs but need to now do upstairs as said son will be coming Christmas Eve. Walk dogs. Try not to stress out about life.

Kim82 · 21/12/2022 09:51

Morning! First day of Christmas leave for me although I did have to log on first thing to deal with an urgent case.

We’ve just had sausage sandwiches for breakfast and dh will be setting off to work shortly. I need to clean the house top to bottom as it’s disgusting and catch up on the washing. Dsis is coming round later to visit with my niece who will keep dd8 amused so we can chat in peace.

Dh mentioned me and him going out for tea tonight so hopefully we’ll do that if the older dds are happy to babysit the 8yo - I’m sure they will be.

I’m going to finish my cup of tea, stick a wash on then get started on the cleaning.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 21/12/2022 10:01

Morning! First day of the holidays for everyone here. DP’s taken DD to her holiday club, which she’s thrilled about because she gets to use her lunchbox 😀.
I’m lounging on the sofa, eating porridge, with Christmas music playing in the background.
Need to have a shower and then trundle out to Sainsbury’s for a few bits and bobs.
Also need to find a couple more stocking presents for DD.
Expecting cleaner to turn up imminently - she wants some help with a Nextdoor ad and a bit of translation.
Not sure what we’ll have for lunch. DP’s newly dumped and heartbroken brother is coming round for supper - will either get a takeaway or I might make some dal, rice etc., and I expect we’ll spend some time analysing What Went Wrong.

Giggorata · 21/12/2022 10:14

Morning all.
We're going to town to buy some nice cheeses in the market, pick up the wine, have a pub lunch, do the charity shops and then a supermarket shop.

They usually have mistletoe on one of the stalls, so I'll get some and then try my annual attempt to get some started on one of the trees…

Lighting our Solstice candles later, (and possibly the tree, if I get it put up) to celebrate the returning Sun. ☀️

Redrobinbobbing · 21/12/2022 10:17

Nice walk then food shop and wrapping pressies

MinnieMountain · 21/12/2022 10:20

Morning!

I’m currently in the gym cafe keeping out of our cleaner’s way as I’m using up my last day of a/l today.

I need to post my old passport back. Then I’m going to enjoy the last bit of quiet before DS breaks up.

We’re having home made pizza in front of Home Alone 2 for supper.

Windywuss · 21/12/2022 10:22

I like these threads. 🙂

I'm still in bed drinking coffee as I'm recovering from covid and still utterly exhausted though at least negative on tests now!

I need to do some laundry and wrap some presents. I also need to ring exh who has made plans to see his on off girlfriend rather than his son which was arranged. (Ffs).

So won't be doing the wrapping for all DS presents as I thought.

I would love some fresh air but feel like a jelly with no energy so that's probably over ambitious.

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 21/12/2022 10:22

I'm doing the Christmas food shop today. Pray for me

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/12/2022 10:25

Just made some bread, so waiting for that to finish. Need to go into town with my dd, then off to finish xmas shopping.

Refrosty · 21/12/2022 10:27

I had booked the day off for kids to go to DH's work Christmas event for kids. He's ill, I'm ill, so poor DC will have to enjoy the delights of their home. I was also going to use the morning to start prepping the house for Christmas, and I was supposed to make cranberry sauce, but I'm having a coffee in bed and will just be in bed watching nonsense all day (so not too bad!).

Besides the tree, I've done no Christmas prep, so the next few days will be interesting.

RambamThankyouMam · 21/12/2022 10:34

DD's nursery is closed due to an electrical problem so we're having a day at home. I somehow need to fit some work in before the Chanukah party we're going to. After that it will be a case of bringing DD down from the inevitable donut-induced sugar rush Grin

GingerLiberalFeminist · 21/12/2022 10:41

I'm starting day three in the induction ward where baby clearly has no interest in coming out!

popandchoc · 21/12/2022 10:43

Working till 1 . Have afternoon off and DD1 finishes school at 1 and DD2 at 2 so picking them up. Then we are off bowling as DD1 has a social with her club she goes to.
