Does anyone actually get through 2 hours of Scott Mills in the afternoon?

I find I have to switch him off! I can't believe he's got this job Confused.

Last week I heard him forcing Sam Ryder to agree to sing at his wedding. CRINGE.

Today he's just phoned a boring woman who seemed utterly underwhelmed to hear from him and it was supposed to be a big surprise call and it all fell flat. CRINGE AGAIN.

To me he has the persona of the pub bore.

Come on Radio 2!!

The man is a charisma vacuum. It seems like a local radio station when he's on.

And am I the only one who likes Jeremy Vine?😂

Gooseysgirl · 19/12/2022 17:16

I'd take OJ or Vern ahead of Scott any day. He's awful - I hoped he would be a lot better... I find myself almost wishing for SW to come back.

CeriB82 · 19/12/2022 19:18

He is tinnitus. I switch off.

He was used to co-hosting with Chris on R1. It must be hard to adjust.

GreenTeaTuesdays · 19/12/2022 19:36

I followed him over from radio 1 as I LOVED his show.. it's definitely different to his previous show but I think he's actually doing a really good job and I'm enjoying listening! I do think once he gets a bit more confident he will relax a bit and will just get better!

On a complete side note, (this is my first time listening to radio 2 regularly).. why on earth do they have travel news as a feature on a national radio station? There is no way they can cover everything so you're just listening to some obscure roads miles away!

Appalonia · 20/12/2022 21:02

I've recently started listening to KEXP radio. It's a Seattle based radio station, mainly staffed by volunteers. The music is similar to 6 Music, and the DJ s are genuine music enthusiasts but there's no inane chatter.

H1Drangea · 20/12/2022 21:09

I turn radio 2 off at 12 too , can’t bear Jeremy Vine and the arguments, can’t stand boring Scott , really don’t like Sara and she’s nowhere near as funny as she thinks she is
OJ was superb , and should have got the job , I like Gary Davies and really miss Paul O’Grady ( sing it in a radio 2 voice … Poor Old Lady ) on a Sunday

Mushroo · 21/12/2022 15:32

I hate Jilly from London.

(yes I’m still listening for some reason).

Everydaywheniwakeup · 21/12/2022 15:38

Scott Mills is the poster boy for "Be careful what you wish for". I wanted Steve Wright to be gone so badly and this is the result. SM was on Saturday Kitchen recently and just as tedious in person.
In the week I don't listen until 7, it's all crap, cringey real people, that bloody awful Richie person and shit music.

DuncanBiscuits · 21/12/2022 15:41

I’ve more or less given up radio now. I like Radcliffe and Maconie on weekend mornings on 6, but other than that I rely on podcasts.

It’s a shame, I’ve always been a radio fan, but I can’t listen to Don’t Stop Me Now ever again.

BeanieTeen · 21/12/2022 15:53

It could be worse. I started listening to Heart because they play Christmas songs, I usually have Kiss on in the mornings. I was like ‘who is this woman they’ve employed to do a radio show that keeps cackling like a witch at things that are not funny??’ Amanda Holden apparently. Very relieved to hear she was going off air for Christmas. Give me Scott Mills any day.

Love Jezza. I find him genuinely warm and caring. That’s what makes someone “listenable to” I think.

Lovejonathanpie · 12/08/2023 16:47

So pleased others think he’s boring. Thought it was just me, found my tribe.

GoodyHoodie · 12/08/2023 16:51

Yep, switch off promptly. Ritchie is hugely off-putting too.

Sheitgeist · 13/08/2023 00:08

Can't stand him. So dull. Plays awful bubblegum pop. I'd have liked Gary Davis (or any else really!) instead.

On the flip side, I'm surprised by how much I enjoy Vernon Kay!

WonderingWanda · 19/12/2022 15:16

I used to find him funny on Radio 1 but I think he's been told to tone it down on Radio 2 and he isn't his usual self.

Yup, I used to love listening on the way to work in the evenings on R1. He's got nobody to bounce off now and has clearly been told to behave.

Cotswoldbee · 13/08/2023 00:21

No, can't stand the show.
If it wasn't for the likes of Lisa or Gary I wouldn't listen to R2 at all anymore.
They love to bring in new blood but just have an agenda which the average person just doesn't want to know about.
Give us the sounds we want to hear with intros from decent DJ's we actually like.
Bring back the days of Terry, Fran, Janet & John. 😆

Beenhereforever1978 · 13/08/2023 00:28

I would pay a subscription to just have Terry Wogan beamed to my radio every morning again.

CuteCillian · 13/08/2023 00:35

Scott is dull but better than Steve Wright. I loathe 'Jilly from London'.
Jeremy V is good at what he does, and I'm not hating Vernon despite missing Ken - particularly his bants with Richie.

Walkingtheplank · 13/08/2023 01:01

I listen to Scott Mills about half an hour behind so I can largely fast forward through the speaking bits. I really like the music he plays. He seems like a nice bloke but he's just a bit dull.

I'd have liked OJ Borg to have got the job - perhaps he didnt want it?

I also like Sara Cox as a person but her show is so puerile and she talks to so many members of the public, in a baby voice, that its almost like she's not bothered to plan her show and is just filling the time talking to Keith from Burnley who is in the car with his wife Maureen, their kids Jack and Evie and their cockapoo Poppy enroute to see Nanna. To be fair, that's a general pet peeve. Why would I, a mere member of the public, tune in to haer a highly paid DJ talk on the phone to other members of the public about their very vanilla lives?

whysorude · 13/08/2023 01:09

Listening to Scott Mills' show is like listening to paint dry.

sofasofa42 · 13/08/2023 12:38

He is such a moron. I left radio 1 because of him- he just kept banging on about people farting in their sleep. So boring and childish. His chat is basic at best. Steve wright used to make me giggle and his cheesiness was such an antidote to daily crap. Zoe Ball with her " me darlin's" and Scott mills break me. I listen to virgin now. Breakfast and drive time are really spot on and I can cope with the bit in between , i zone out . Radio 2 is just so childish for the most part but I am still too young for radio 4!

PearlClutzsche · 14/08/2023 15:29

Scott Mills has all the personality (and music taste) of a wet lettuce.

diamondinaruff · 14/08/2023 15:36

MostTacticalNameChange · 19/12/2022 16:23

I don't mind him, liked him on Radio 1 and like him on 2, but I do think it comes through that he's maybe a bit embarrassed or indignant to be on radio 2. I don't think he outgrew Radio 1 and wanted to change his style, he was pushed because of his age and it was this or commercial radio or obscurity. Might have it wrong, but R1 have form for culling at a certain age - I can understand it but it doesn't make sense when he was still so popular. He might have done better on a weekend - replacing Claudia if i had my way.

Nothing will ever beat Mark and Lard though, so my bar is on the floor!

Mark and lard were my absolute favourites ever

Did you know mark riley was in The Fall in the 80s

They were brilliant together

CaroleK · 01/09/2023 14:11

I'm so glad it is not only me who finds Scott Mills the most depressing and boring voice on the radio....Steve Wright was getting a bit wearing and I used to turn him off, now I just cant wait to turn SM off, really silly birthday telephone call, and his music is far too pop! I hope the BBC is listening to its listeners...
