Duvet up under you chin but arms out. Find a scarf wide enough to cover shoulders to wrists (not much when in reading position). Lay scarf across self, chin to wrists.

I know. But it's taken me years. 😄

Why not long sleeved PJs? I can't be doing with short sleeves at in winter, even 3/4 sleeves make me freeze.

The main reason I finally caved and got a kindle is so that I can read with the light off properly lying down. Then I just fall asleep and hopefully don't chuck it on the floor.

I have a jersey type fabric poncho which works well. I too thought it was just me who had this issue!

TwoMonthsOff · 18/12/2022 22:51

Cardigan

maximist · 18/12/2022 22:58

I've just bought a fleece poncho with a hood from Vinted specifically for reading in bed, it's amazing!

paintitallover · 18/12/2022 23:00

Long sleeve pjs are t enough, often. I used a bed jacket when I was told to sleep sitting up for a couple of months.

Geneticsbunny · 18/12/2022 23:10

That is genius. I really want a shawl now (definitely not an old lady yet...)

ooohaaaahjustalittlebit · 18/12/2022 23:14

I'm a visual learner, I need a diagram please

Bedjacket

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought of a bed jacket.

Newwardrobe · 18/12/2022 23:19

I sleep in the nude even when it's freezing but get cold arms when reading, I found an old pair of leg warmers and put them on my arms .

MariahsBaubles · 18/12/2022 23:21

OP your next challenge if you choose to accept it: how to read in the middle of the night without waking DP if your current book is a book not a kindle? I end up scrolling MN for hours when I could be getting done chapters in!

paintitallover · 18/12/2022 23:27

@PriamFarrl they are quite hard to find. Expensive and often cheap fleece.

Youdoyoubabe · 18/12/2022 23:27

Bed jacket, cardi

Downsize2021 · 18/12/2022 23:29

Audio book! Unfortunately I fall asleep before i set the timer (I'm foolishly optimistic I'll stay awake) so have to spend ages rewinding to find the point I fell asleep at.

iklboo · 18/12/2022 23:32

@Zimtsterne - I've got fingerless gloves. Come up high enough so my fingers don't freeze, but still lets me use my kindle.

user1745 · 18/12/2022 23:53

I read on a tablet propped beside the bed and have a Bluetooth clicker thing to turn the pages.

JustCakeInDrag · 18/12/2022 23:57

I saw a TikTok the other day of someone who had a swan-neck holder for her kindle and a remote clicker to turn the pages. I thought it was genius.

You want one of the those little lights that clips to your book!

pedanticromantic · 18/12/2022 23:59

Surely I'm not the only one who reads lying on their front like a girl?

The book is open on the pillow, my arms are bent and prop up my face / head. The duvet covers all of me so my arms don't get cold and when I start to nod off I just close the book and move it to my bedside table.

Icanflyhigh · 18/12/2022 23:59

I put my dressing gown on back to front!

SnitterBug · 19/12/2022 00:02

Just put a jumper on

Nat6999 · 19/12/2022 00:03

I wear a fleecy pj top & fingerless gloves so I can read & surf in bed without freezing.

TheOrigRights · 19/12/2022 00:13

I read my Kindle lying on my side, Kindle propped on a pillow and therefore only need to expose my hand to swipe to the next page.
I usually fall asleep after a couple of pages cos I go to bed too late [looks at time - goes to bed]

Bloatstoat · 19/12/2022 00:14

Sorry OP the scarf thing sounds good but the back to front dressing gown thing is genius!
I have been using one arm outside duvet to hold phone for kindle app and swapping arms when it gets too cold. Not very efficient.

Winter dressing gown on back-to-front

I do this. My dressing gown is used like an extra blanket every night

Tinytigertail · 19/12/2022 08:00

jalopy · 18/12/2022 22:15

I put my arms through my dressing gown sleeves, back to front, so the gown lays on top of my duvet.

Genius!
