My annual French Carol Help request

FrenchCarolHelp · 18/12/2022 19:20

I still haven't found the Carol, had lots of lovely French carols suggested but still not the one I'm looking for.

Helpfully don't know any of the words.

I know it is French. I think it is traditional.

I know I've watched school choirs sing it on YouTube.

It has the same haunting quality of 'Carol of the Bells'

Whispers at some points and builds to a crescendo.

My embarrassing attempt to put into words what I hear in my head...

'Nous somme, nous some dupee, enchant ...dum dum dum da dum'

The nous somme is repeated and whispered at time.

*for avoidance of doubt I can't speak French

FrenchCarolHelp · 18/12/2022 19:26

Sounds like it could be Noël Nouvelet

O Holy Night? (Minuit Chretien)?

Ablababla · 18/12/2022 19:32

There’s a beautiful french carol in a film which has Ed Norton in it. He’s an Edwardian doctor in China living with his cheating wife and a bunch of French nuns. That’s probably not very helpful!

TrickyD · 18/12/2022 19:32

Il est né, le divin enfant?

IloveJudgeJudy · 18/12/2022 19:33

La marche des rois mages?

ShakeYourFeathers · 18/12/2022 19:37

Is it the French carol about a White rose

I can't google it Roses as in the flowers are the only hits

The Painted Veil. I love that film.

FrenchCarolHelp · 18/12/2022 19:41

If you could mix these two together it would be close Noël Nouvelet and La marche des rois mages.

Maybe it isn't traditional, it is definitely French as was sung by school choir that was taught by a French teacher. It is the most beautiful carol I have ever heard and there were lots of versions on YouTube.

The YouTube thing makes me wonder if it isn't a carol at all but something from the Les Choristes soundtrack?

NameOchangeO1 · 18/12/2022 19:55

Is it definitely a carol? I'm wondering if it is vois sur ton chemain.

Callmecordelia · 18/12/2022 19:57

FluffyYucca · 18/12/2022 19:58

Not a carol, and a bit of a long shot, but “Le Noël des petits santons” borrows a bit of the tune from La marche des rois mages - could it be that?

Nous sommes trois souverains princes?

Least I now know that Nous Sommes is a French word. (We are?) It definitely starts with this but sadly is not your suggestion.

Could it be this - Salut a la compagnie.

www.nosenchanteurs.eu/index.php/2017/01/01/malicorne-salut-a-la-compagnie-la-part-a-dieu/

It’s technically not a Christmas carol but it does include “nous sommes” and references Jesus, the Virgin (Mary) and the Three Kings.
