My annual French Carol Help request

FrenchCarolHelp · 18/12/2022 19:20

I still haven't found the Carol, had lots of lovely French carols suggested but still not the one I'm looking for.

Helpfully don't know any of the words.

I know it is French. I think it is traditional.

I know I've watched school choirs sing it on YouTube.

It has the same haunting quality of 'Carol of the Bells'

Whispers at some points and builds to a crescendo.

My embarrassing attempt to put into words what I hear in my head...

'Nous somme, nous some dupee, enchant ...dum dum dum da dum'

The nous somme is repeated and whispered at time.

*for avoidance of doubt I can't speak French

Thanks for everyone's help, I'm hoping that listening to such beautiful music is soothing your soul as much as mine even if it hasn't answered my question.

To answer PP Choruss is too jolly, I've tried singing it to the Internet but my singing ability is worse than my French.
I've sent an email to the school but no one remembers the song and the school has changed to an academy since 2016.
I've searched all my emails, I have found the one offering tickets but it doesn't have an order of service.
The church is now a restaurant with pp to convert to homes!

Have you checked your YouTube history? What would you have searched for in the past to find it? Do you subscribe on YouTube to particular groups or orchestras?
Does the school have an alumni page on Facebook? I have all my choir music from school 30 years ago, I'm sure others do too!

Chut, plus de bruit?

thebunnies · 20/12/2022 00:01

Have you tried Le Bon Berger? Somebody posted a YouTube link further up - sounds like you described

FrenchCarolHelp · 25/10/2023 21:41

Another year, Another bump. I've been posting for the last five years under different names.

None of the suggestions are right. I know I didn't dream it.

Place marking to come back later

YouCantTunaFish · 26/10/2023 01:39

Not at all Christmassy but nous sommes is repeated

Jux · 26/10/2023 01:58

Could it be part of a larger work?

LaurieStrode · 26/10/2023 02:14

So intruguing!

Can the school provide the teacher's name?

FrenchCarolHelp · 26/10/2023 08:28

Thank you all for trying again. Unfortunately not any of those, although I'm always impressed that people can find more songs that are similar to what I want.

All details are.

I've watched it on YouTube, French children were singing it and another version where adults were singing.

It is religious/church music suits singing by choristers, it has a haunting quality similar to Carol of the bells in Home Alone.

It was described as a traditional carol, it was a French native teacher that introduced the song to the school but she has left and I've asked on fb but no one remembers.

I can only assume that I have the words wrong, but I've listened to loads of French music and still haven't found it. My DD remembers the tune and that it was in French, and the tune she hums is the same as I can hear in my head so I know it exists.

Thank you to everyone and anyone that takes the time with this, it is driving me potty.

Doesn't have the words 'nous sommes' at all but this is quite a haunting French carol

AussieManque · 26/10/2023 08:43

@FrenchCarolHelp if you know the tune can you record it and upload it?

HannahHannahAnna · 26/10/2023 09:09

I wondered whether they might have translated and performed "We are the world" in French, that fits the repeated nous sommes but it doesn't have the dramatic vibes of Carol of the bells

ghislaine · 26/10/2023 12:00

Isn't there a facility now on Google to hum a tune and Google will locate it for you? It's worth trying.

AussieManque · 26/10/2023 13:00

@ghislaine Shazzam does this for recorded songs/music. Could be worth seeing if it works when you sing into it!

PictureOfFlorianTray · 26/10/2023 13:54

Sorry, just place marking to see if you find out OP.

StrawberryPi · 26/10/2023 14:14

Could it be "Quelle est cette odeur agreable"?

Kinda weird name for a carol, but I sung this at school and it certainly is a bit haunting.

VOCES8: Quelle est cette odeur agréable?

VOCES8 sings David Wilcocks' arrangement of the traditional French carol '.TEXTQuelle est cette odeur agréable,Bergers, qui ravit tous nos sens ?S’exhale-t-i...

EthicalNonMahogany · 26/10/2023 14:18

I deffo thought it was going to be the cantique de Jean racine. Bugger.

it was the "nous remprons le silence" or whatever that made me think it was

Jux · 27/10/2023 20:25

Did ithave harmonies or was it unison?

50but17inside · 27/10/2023 20:31

OP, Do you or your child or their friends not remember the teacher’s name?
