I've just received a Bron coucke mandoline for Christmas. Can anyone recommend any recipes to make with it?

Fennel, blood orange and red onion salad. Get the EVOO in the wankiest appealing tin possible, and if you like, add some bruised rosemary or another 'menthol-y' herb.

pornyshroudofturin · 17/12/2022 18:12

Oh Lord- get someone on standby with bandages and a car to take you to A&E.

I'm not allowed to use the mandolin any more, and wince when I see them using it on Masterchef....

Yes, and boulangere spuds.
And it's only dangerous if you're careless.

Red cabbage, the blood won't show.

Pickled mooli

IntentionalError · 17/12/2022 18:22

There’s a classic clip of Rick Stein chopping the end of his finger off with a mandoline in his restaurant kitchen. 🤣

I would make dauphinoise, OP, but I would probably keep the mandoline for display and use the processor to slice the spuds.

One where you don't slice the top of your finger off like I did.

Like a dauphinois but with stock instead. Much lighter, personally I prefer it. Delia has a good recipe.

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/12/2022 19:13

Use it to thinly slice apple for a classic French style tart.

Every time I stone an avocado I repeat in my head “The most common hand injuries seen in A&E are caused by people removing stones from avocados” 😂
I saw it on one of those 24 hrs in A&E programmes.

And it's only dangerous if you're careless.
Or clumsy! I once grated my knuckles with a spiralizer. Thankfully I’ve been okay with my mandolin <touches wood>
