Haven’t done one of these for a while - what’s everyone up to with a week to go til Christmas Eve? Can’t believe it! I’m just waiting for the butter to soften so I can put it on toast with my lovely sounding soup ( lentil & red pepper). Went into town early to put some money in the bank & get trainers for DD14. Just been trying to calculate some dates for my work holidays next year as everything gets booked up really quickly. Listening to festive music & carols on Classic FM. DD14 is in her room as per but she’s coming with me to DM & DF’s later. DF was really knocked for six by a virus & DM was in hospital then contracted Covid when she got home so we haven’t seen them for ages except through the window 😢
Still got a few pressies to wrap but no more to buy. Need to do a fair amount of tidying & cleaning, although it’s just us for Christmas lunch this year. My kitchen table is there somewhere! Might sort out all the bags & boxes in our bedroom later. I should have advertised some of DD’s dresses on Vinted or similar. Could certainly do with the extra money! Not sure what we’ll watch tonight. Maybe a Christmas movie. The Strictly Final is on but for some reason I haven’t got into it this year. Nice easy tea of bangers, double cream mash & baked beans as I forgot to defrost the pork steaks. I may have a cheeky Baileys. Tescos had it reduced from £23 to £10 recently

I'm having a lazy day on the sofa. Still recovering from flu/sinusitis/chest infection (been ill 3 and a half weeks).

I'm working my way through the laundry backlog. Could do with trying to hoover the stairs and living room but I'm not sure I'm up to it. I'm still getting out of breath easily.

Making roast chicken breast/potatoes/veg for tea. There's only me so not going to great lengths with it.

Have to make a batch of soup but that will probably be tomorrow

Adapa · 17/12/2022 13:02

Not much, dh and I have both come down with covid. He's in bed and I'm basically boiling myself in the bath while mumsnetting to try and clear my very gunky sinuses!

Pinkandpurplehairedlady · 17/12/2022 13:08

I’ve just finished wrapping all presents (more to arrive via Amazon tomorrow for my parents) and relaxing on the sofa before heading into town to get a late lunch with the DC. DD13 has only just emerged from her pit so I’m hoping the promise of food makes her get dressed….

Had a stunning frosty walk with DDog and DSis’s dog earlier. Then took DD and DNephew for brekkie. They’re both off doing sport now and I’m back in bed before rousing myself for a shower later.
Over to ExDH later for the Strictly final, despite having every single present still to wrap.

OldTinHat · 17/12/2022 13:14

I'm all done for Christmas, travelled to family and delivered presents a month ago. I live alone, house is freezing so I'm still in bed to keep warm! No plans for next weekend.

I am going to a dinner dance this evening, first Christmas party in years and years! I'll probably get up about 4pm, shower and start getting ready. And that will be today finished!

mac1974 · 17/12/2022 13:18

Dh is hungover after his Xmas do so I've done football run, 2 x stables runs, dog walk. Just shovelling a pot noodle down before popping to town and kids swimming lesson & my youngest Dd has a friend coming round for a play date & some tea.
I'm stopping off for on the way home and to pick up some prosecco & fresh bread for my tea to go with some yummy cheese & pate. Looking forward to a chilled evening.

Frequency · 17/12/2022 13:19

I'm watching CSI on Prime. DD1 is out at her not-boyfriends house. DD2 is lazing in bed lest I ask her to help clean. Big dog is alternating between gnawing on a marrowbone and whining at the chihuahua to play. The chihuahua is huddled in front of the halogen heater despite the fleece jumper she is wearing and staring at me mournfully as if I am the one who turned the sun off and covered the ground with cold, white stuff.

SageYourResoluteOracle · 17/12/2022 13:21

DD has the horrid lurgy that’s doing the rounds and I was up several times in the night to check on her and her awful 39.8 temperature spikes! So DP (I love him so much!) has run around delivering an item I sold online then buying in more stocks of calpol and the bits needed to make spinach and berry smoothies. A tween has requested actual greens: she must be ill!! 🤣

DP has now taken DSS to see his aunt, uncle and cousins and is dropping off bags of gifts for the 3 families we were supposed to see across the weekend. Naturally, I’m taking full advantage of the free time that staying with DD has afforded me and - having made a vague in-road into the laundry- I’m now drinking coffee and MN-ing from bed!! I do need to feed the Christmas cake one last time and then finish wrapping the last 4 wee things I’ve bought for the kids. But my bed is so luxuriously comfy that I think I’ll stay a while longer!

Bicnod · 17/12/2022 13:24

Kids are variously making gingerbread houses, playing Xbox and pottering around... All still in PJs. DH just got back from taking the puppy for a walk and I'm attempting to get ready for a weekend away with some girlfriends... All very lovely and chilled...

VioletCharlotte · 17/12/2022 13:24

I've just finished a bowl of butternut squash soup. I was up early this morning and went to yoga, it was bright and frosty this morning so I enjoyed the drive through the countryside to get to the studio. Popped to Asda for a few bits that I forgot to add to the online shop. Came home, took the dog for a walk, put the washing on, did a bit of tidying. I've got a hair appointment at 2 for a much needed cut and colour. When I get home, I'm planning to finish wrapping the presents, then settle in to watch some TV (currently rewatching Gavin & Stacey)

TallGrassInTheSun · 17/12/2022 13:26

We’ve not long got back from a walk with our dogs. They’re now shattered and sleeping.

I’m mumsnetting and watching a concert on YouTube. Oldest is revising for his A level mocks after Xmas, youngest has gone to bed with a hot chocolate as she’s not feeling well. My partner is cooking as we have friends coming over later for dinner and drinks.

Caraoke · 17/12/2022 13:30

I love these, I always read them imagining that people's houses are so tidy and ordered.

We're having a day in, kids are drawing and playing on tablets, we've been off school and work this week with various bugs. I don't really want to parent, I want to be in bed but dh is away and I'm it😭Ive cleared out and cleaned the fridge, sorted the recycling and food waste and am now in a heap on the couch.

My mum is coming over soon to take my dog for an overnight stay so she can get a good walk and I can get a good sleep without the dog waking me for pees in the middle of the night. Just as my children start to sleep through my elderly dog stops, typical!

I'll make the children some mince and tatties for dinner and get us all down for an early bed in the hope we will all feel brighter tomorrow.

gettingolderbutcooler · 17/12/2022 13:33

Massive clean involving me, DH, recalcitrant teens and explanations of what Cif is 😜

SillyYak · 17/12/2022 13:46

First day of my period today so I feel like hiding away in bed all day.

Instead I’ve had little lie in and a hot bath while DH did breakfast shift downstairs and took DS to the park, then walked out to join them with DD as the weather is too gorgeous to miss. To our local shops to pick up last few pressies for people, then home for scrambled eggs on toast. DS is now napping and DD has a friend over to play.

I’m going to pull myself off the sofa in a minute to finally put my tulip bulbs in pots, make some bolognaise sauce for tea then make a meringue wreath for DD’s birthday party next week.

DH and I are out to Christmas drinks tonight and we have a babysitter :)

Floralnomad · 17/12/2022 13:49

We’ve been to Costco and now I’m doing some washing and waiting for the football to start . My husband is on holiday next week so he can do all the wrapping etc

EatDiamondsForBreakfast · 17/12/2022 13:51

Very late on Saturday night here. I love these threads. Craving soup & bread now after reading your OP!!!!

My son was so ill all week so have felt behind and tired. Finally had some energy this afternoon so tackled some deep cleaning jobs that have been nagging at me. Scrubbed kitchen cupboard doors, cleaned out fridge and pantry, ruthlessly de cluttered the Tupperware drawers. I’ve been watching ‘The Minimal Mom’ on YouTube and its starting to sink in. How many drink bottles, lunch boxes, ect do we need? I keep opening cupboards and drawers now just to hear the angels singing 😂

Finally decided to stop for the night but wrote a day by day job list on my phone for the week ahead. Want to feel relaxed on Christmas Eve and just enjoy it.

Slipped in a visit to my favourite shop on the job list as I’ll be near there dropping DD’s friends home later in the week.....but I can only go IF my death pile of clothes is dealt with on my dresser by then 😉wish me luck !

HerRoyalNotness · 17/12/2022 13:53

We left at 5.45am for a 10hr road trip, and then some more tomorrow. Driving from south Texas to Colorado. We’ve left snowflake the elf in charge of the house

NeedWineNow · 17/12/2022 13:53

We're on the sofa having just finished bacon sandwiches. DH doing the crossword and I'm watching Bargain Hunt (don't judge me!). Going to friends for dinner and staying over so need to pack overnight bag and get ready but no immediate rush. We're taping Strictly so hoping to get through the evening without any spoilers!

Fuwari · 17/12/2022 14:01

I'm partly working, partly trying to tidy up! Everything's ready for Christmas, parcels sent, presents wrapped, food either bought or ordered for delivery next week. DS is in his room relaxing! DD is stuck at Uni due to the train strike but will hopefully be here tomorrow. So just getting her room ready. Cats are snoozing.

A quiet evening I think. I've started watching a show called "From" so maybe a couple of episodes of that with a supermarket pizza and a glass of wine 😃

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 17/12/2022 14:05

I have a chest infection and feel like death warmed up. The plan had been for DH to take DD to her ballet class Christmas party then take both DD and DS to the cinema to let me rest.

However, DS has came down whith his third sick bug since Halloween and I cannot deal with vomit so DH had to stay home with DS while I hauled myself out to take DD to her party and sat in the car for two hours as the cafe I usually sit in was closed due to burst pipes and the streets were too icy to walk about the shops. I am now sitting down with her to watch a christmas film as I don't think the other people in the cinema would enjoy listening to me cough non stop.

If it wasn't for illness we would be building our cadbury chocolate house, taking the dog a big walk and then going to the cinema as a family.

Rudolphscarrot · 17/12/2022 14:06

DH is working so I'm solo parenting today with the 3 year old and 9 month old (who is ill). Both slept until 8am so very grateful for that! We had a lazy morning playing, drawing, watching the cbeebies panto. DS helped me wrap a couple of gifts (there is still a mountain to do). DD has been hard work all morning, either wanting to be held or wanting to crawl into the hall/kitchen/anywhere else I don't want her to be!

Miraculously, both have been asleep in their own beds for the last 90 minutes. This NEVER happens. I usually end up glued to the sofa with DD asleep on me, but she was so wrecked she went down without a fuss. It's been bliss. I've managed to do some laundry, clean the kitchen, sweep the floor, tidy the hall and put tea into the slow cooker. Again, this NEVER happens. I'm so excited I'm having a sit down with some panettone that I don't need to share with anyone!

They'll be awake soon. Need to pop to Asda for a few last Christmas bits and nappies. Then it'll be tea, bath and bed for them, and the Strictly final with a glass of wine (and a lot of wrapping paper) for me!

TheChosenTwo · 17/12/2022 14:11

Dd2 is doing dd1’s hair (dd1 is getting ready to go to work) and dd2 has a friend round.
dh is back in bed, he had a bit too much of a good time at his works Christmas get together last night 😂
ds is playing guitar in his room.
im stalking my window eagerly for some deliveries and am shortly about to go and visit a friend who’s in a hospice and sadly not set to be with us for Christmas. I’ve had some new photos developed to take to her to put up on her pinboard. But they haven’t been delivered yet 😫
when I get home I’m going to light the fire if no one else has done it and probably wrap some presents. Not sure what’s for dinner tonight, will worry about that later.

Peridot1 · 17/12/2022 14:35

I love these threads too. They always feel so comforting. Healing vibes to all of you with the lurgy or lurgy-ridden children. And sympathies to you @TheChosenTwo.

I had a lazy start to the morning and then took the dog for a walk around the field. Came back for a coffee and started laundry etc. Had soup for lunch. Then read the recipe for the dessert I’m doing for later and realised it needed to chill overnight so made that! It’s now chilling! It’s a Mixed Berry Tiramisu to use up some frozen berries and sponge fingers that have been hanging around. Hopefully it will be fine. We have our neighbours coming over for dinner. DH will cook the main course. I need to do a bit of a tidy around and vacuum. No point in doing that too early as the hairy dog will just shed everywhere as usual.

Going to set up a wrapping station in the spare room later so we can all use it to wrap this week. I haven’t even started that yet.

DH put the outside lights up finally. Rest of the house is done. No idea what DS is doing - he’s 21 and will just say “stuff” if asked!

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 17/12/2022 14:36

Watching Bad Moms in bed with tea and gastroenteritis.

Rest and fluids are my priorities today.

veiledsentiments · 17/12/2022 14:42

Youngest has just turned in her dissertation. I worked this morning, changed the bed, cleaned the kitchen, hoovered. Now sat on the sofa. Youngest, eldest and her boyfriend are now playing Mario and drinking prosecco to celebrate the handing in of the dissertation. Youngest has been quite ill all week with chest, cough and throat. She deserves a break!
