Is anyone buying anything for Christmas online that needs to be posted?

Having not had any post for nearly 2 weeks now, I can't risk buying anything that needs to be posted. I'm awaiting a number of parcels but not feeling positive that they will arrive in time.

I try to avoid buying from Amazon but at least the items will actually arrive.

I have realised that there was a few things I was going to order from small indy shops that I didn't get round to ordering early then suddenly realised with all the strikes its too late. I know I should be more organised as a teacher but I really feel for small businesses who get that last minute rush. Will aim to go and seek out some small shops this weekend.

I stopped a couple of weeks ago when my parcels started going wrong. It must be good for local retailers though - I've returned to old fashioned in person shopping. I've been pleasantly surprised that Ive found some really nice things for cheaper than I might have found online. It was more inspirational too.

Yes just avoid RM I’ve had plenty of things off Evri dpd etc

Not had any issues with Prime deliveries. Avoiding RM completely.

WonderingWanda · 16/12/2022 19:33

I've ordered a couple of things after checking who they use for postage.

SirenSays · 16/12/2022 19:39

My packages arrive absolutely fine. It's my letters that don't show up, I get a big stack pushed through the door every 2 weeks or so. My DM and my sisters are dealing with the same.

underthemike · 16/12/2022 20:09

I'm shopping at real shops and avoiding Amazon (as I usually do) it's nice and feels much more thoughtful.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/12/2022 20:18

My Prime delivery is late now.

panko · 16/12/2022 20:20

I'm not buying anything online. The delivery drivers need a break not more stuff put in the system unless essential

Robin233 · 17/12/2022 06:32

Yes but if it doesn't come they'll get it after Christmas

Celeryfavour · 17/12/2022 06:40

I'm waiting for a parcel from a small company. I ordered on 13th, it wasn't clear which courier they use but I thought it would be enough time even if RM. But I only got a shipping notification yesterday which I thought was a bit crap.

Maybe this is going to save the high street. I’ve been buying from a lot of small local shops too.

leftitabitlate22 · 17/12/2022 06:49

I'll only order from Amazon now.

I popped into Tesco on my way home from work yesterday and posted a couple of letters whilst i was there. The postbox was so full I had to put my hand in the postbox and try to open a space to squeeze our letters in between others to get them in. It's a big postbox. I wonder when it was even last emptied.

I think people are spending less this year though and their bills will be higher. Also a lot of the local shops have an online shop to mail stuff out to help subsidise the shop.

MrsMontyD · 17/12/2022 07:14

I ordered a few gifts to be delivered directly, one is going quite a long way so I always do their gift that way, it was ordered in October for delivery on 20th December and they only started despatching it today, so I'm concerned about that one, it's using delivered RM.

Two other presents are also being delivered directly, ordered several weeks ago, but they'll go by courier so I'm slightly less concerned.

Not much I can do about it at this point.

Same here.

Parcels are arriving fine, I’m just not getting normal letter post

I ordered a couple of vouchers that were sent out tracked, but in normal envelopes rather than as parcels the middle of November that haven’t made it yet, I’ve got to post them on to their recipients yet. A diagnosis letter regarding DD’s disability so she can apply for a bus pass that was sent weeks ago, I Moonpigged Christmas cards to my parents 2 weeks ago that haven’t arrived yet.

I was chatting to our work postman yesterday and he said they’ve been told to concentrate on getting parcels delivered and suggested popping into the sorting office and picking post up

Evri have been fine for me but now I've got a parcel sat with DPD and no idea when it's going to come 😢

Pictograph · 17/12/2022 07:34

I'm ordering things online, but choosing collection rather than delivery. I'm going into town today and I have a list of shops to visit to pick up my parcels!

Haruka · 17/12/2022 07:39

I have 2 items late now - one ordered beginning of November and likely lost in the ether (got that one refunded, but still interested in where it ended up).

The other was ironically a replacement for the lost item from a different company. It's due to be delivered by RM today after a 5-day delay. I won't hold my breath.

I'm just grateful that most of my Christmas shopping was done in November rather than trying to scrabble for presents now.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/12/2022 20:18

My Prime delivery is late now.

Me too - I ordered something Monday on Amazon and the suppliers carrier is Royal Mail - I've tracked it and I'm just getting a randome message saying in transit - I'm now thinking I'll need to go and get a replacement gift.

Theraffarian · 17/12/2022 07:46

Finally got a RM parcel delivered yesterday that was posted on dec 1st , so nope , no more orders by post for me this year . Amazon still fine for next day delivery here m although I did see a small strike had just been agreed in one warehouse , so might be a bit of a delay if goods are coming from that one .

EllaPaella · 17/12/2022 07:48

I ordered something for a relative for Christmas two days ago from Amazon after RM have failed to deliver the original gift ordered the end of November. Unfortunately Amazon appear to have sent this parcel via RM so now I know it won't be here on time.

MrsJBaptiste · 17/12/2022 08:42

Amazon Prime all the way here.

I feel guilty as I've avoided eBay, Etsy, etc. as I can't risk the item not arriving in time for Christmas. Amazon are doing very well out of this, the amount of Amazon vans we see out and about is ridiculous.

Having said all that, we have received post every day although I hav3nt checked the postage dates so don't know how long ago things were posted!

Peridot1 · 17/12/2022 08:51

I’m not ordering anything else on line at this stage. Like others we have had RM parcels but hardly any letters. I’ve received two posted Christmas cards so far and normally would have lots by now. Assume that’s a combination of delays and people not sending because of the strikes.

couriers are fine here but I paid for faster delivery for some things from M&S on Monday and one item is still not here. Got an email that they will refund the delivery fee.

Madcatwoman68 · 17/12/2022 08:57

Went online to order a present for my daughter but didn't buy it as they use Royal Mail for delivery.

Felt bad but I want her to have presents on Christmas Day.

I have done the vast majority of my shopping at our local mall as per usual anyway
