Recommend a drink to treat myself with on Christmas Day

I've got the day to myself. Yes, I do the Sarah Millican thing. Dinner sorted. 😊

So I fancy treating myself to something nice to drink for the telly slump.

Must be available in supermarket/high street. Alcoholic but not spirit strength - not looking to get pissed! I don't like wine. Not keen on cream liqueurs, sherry or vermouth type drinks. I usually drink lager/ale but fancy a change.

So, having ruled everything out, over to you! 🙏

Koppaburg cider? Different flavours, same sort of strength as lager (I think)

Bairnsmum05 · 14/12/2022 21:58

Limincello with prosecco and lemonade?

TellingBone · 14/12/2022 21:59

It is indeed similar strength. Thanks for the idea - might look and see if there are any fancy new flavours out. I find it a bit tart to have more than one usually.

M&S cocktails in tins? They do a wide variety, you won't have to shell out on numerous different spirits and mixers and you can find a new favourite drink!

Failing that, a bottle of Aperol, a bottle of Prosecco and soda water for Aperol Spritzes.

Crackedmosaic · 14/12/2022 22:00

Mulled cider.

Oo, nice

TellingBone · 14/12/2022 22:02

Prosecco's a no, thank you. 😊

Mulled cider you say <strokes chin>

I'd have a Dubbonet and bitter lemon. You can also add gin for a real lift off. Think it was the Queen's favourite drink.

LangClegsInSpace · 14/12/2022 22:02

Snakebite with black

DisforDarkChocolate · 14/12/2022 22:03

M&S mulled wine?
Make a proper sangria?

I love Port myself so I'd have half a bottle of nice champagne and then some Port later in the day.

Mr Black if you like coffee (amazon) over ice

Orange juice & limoncello!

RewildingAmbridge · 14/12/2022 22:04

Port! With lemonade to stay and then just on its own, with plenty of cheese

MintyGreenDreams · 14/12/2022 22:05

Apple sourz and tonic

TheChosenTwo · 14/12/2022 22:06

I’d get a big box of pre-made canned cocktails! You can buy quite swish ones these days, gone are the days of Gordon’s and Schweppes tonic, you can now get sipsmiths with fevertree 😂 and grey goose tinned cocktails! I actually don’t like gin but love anything vodka based, there is so much choice. I’d probably drink my way through them, go for a walk and then come home for the ones I refused first time round! Have a lovely day whatever you decide on.

GyozaGuiting · 14/12/2022 22:07

I know you said not ale, but the Yeastie Boys Earl grey ale ‘gunamata’ is one of the best things that’s ever been in my mouth! In Waitrose and Asda normally, bloody lovely.

TellingBone · 14/12/2022 22:08

Gosh. Loads of great ideas! I'm going to have a virtual wander around the supermarket. I'm leaning into the canned cocktails/mulled cider/port options at the moment.

Thanks very much everyone, and for the good wishes.

M&S tins are strong, doubles! Gin lequier? I'd go for a mule and you can make it as strong or not as you like.

SaveMeCheezus · 14/12/2022 22:10

Cloudy Apple juice
Apple slices
Orange slices
Ginger
Cinnamon
A tot of spiced rum

Mix the above and mull.

Enjoy.

It's not officially Christmas until you've necked a few snowballs.

If our house we have to walk around saying Christmas in a glass. Then it's Christmas. Mind you we started on them on the 3rd for DHs 50th so it's been a long festive season this year.

pizzaHeart · 14/12/2022 22:14

I would go for gin and tonic. M&S has nice range of their own gins: spiced clementine, grapefruit, etc and also similar range of their own tonic waters.
I wouldn’t go for gin liquor, it’s too sweet.
