Recommend a drink to treat myself with on Christmas Day

I've got the day to myself. Yes, I do the Sarah Millican thing. Dinner sorted. 😊

So I fancy treating myself to something nice to drink for the telly slump.

Must be available in supermarket/high street. Alcoholic but not spirit strength - not looking to get pissed! I don't like wine. Not keen on cream liqueurs, sherry or vermouth type drinks. I usually drink lager/ale but fancy a change.

So, having ruled everything out, over to you! 🙏

You could have a browse around Marks & Spencer's beer section. They do a very nice Belgian cherry wheat beer, and also things like Christmas Ale with Christmas spices, and a salted caramel stout amongst other delicious things.

At £2 or £3 a bottle you could perhaps try a couple of them.

When I used to drink I loved a drambuie at Christmas or an amaretto - both with ice

CurryandSnuggle · 14/12/2022 22:17

Disaronno velvet liqueur 😋

@CurryandSnuggle i was going to suggest this (had just added 2 bottles to my online shop!) but op said nothing creamy 😫 all the more for us!

Perry. Buck's fizz, or whiskey mac for the falling down option.

AboutTheYoungIdea · 14/12/2022 22:42

Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer is lovely. Or I second the M&S cocktails in a tin but watch out, they’re strong!

Have a good day ☺️🎄

@AngelaChasesBestLife
My very well spoken MIL once asked for a Dubonnet and bitter lemon.
She received a glass of Dubonnet and a bit of lemon.
Still makes me laugh after many years.

Growing up in Yorkshire and working in bars, many was the time the bitter lemon / bit of lemon scenario had to be double checked Grin

Limoncello, raspberry lemonade & cranberry juice, tall with ice as strong or weak as you like.

burnoutbabe · 14/12/2022 22:48

We got a bottle of Aldi salted caramel espresso martinis. They are nice!

If you like port, try white or rosé port for a change (served chilled or over ice). Rosé port is harder to find, but Waitrose has a nice one at the moment:

That story has made my day!

That story has made my day!

I tried to book a plumber online to fit a washing machine and fix a tap. The office manager phoned up and said “So you want a toilet and a washer fitting, yeah?” I said just the washing machine, no toilet. She replied “It sez ere WC, 10 November?”

W/C = week commencing 😁

MrsSkylerWhite · 14/12/2022 23:06

Mulled wine? Shop bought is lower alcohol but you can spice it up with extra cinnamon, nutmeg and orange slices.

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 14/12/2022 23:16

Bucks fizz... or one of the alternative flavours. I have a winter berry one this year.
Alcoholic ginger beer / lemonade
Irish/ liqueur coffee

Epicstorm · 15/12/2022 04:08

Can’t beat port and lemonade in tall glass with ice.

Also Pasoa and fresh orange juice

Baileys with lots of ice.

GrimsbyOrangePippin · 15/12/2022 04:11

I saw Advocaat snowball in a can in Sainsbury the other day. I'm getting some for myself for Christmas Eve & Boxing Day.

isitginoclock · 15/12/2022 04:15

Thatchers do a lovely lemon cider.

Thefriendlyone · 15/12/2022 05:12

Bairnsmum05 · 14/12/2022 21:58

Limincello with prosecco and lemonade?

Christ if you’re not careful that would give you a very merry crimbo indeed 😂

Blueberrywitch · 15/12/2022 06:23

You should try the MOTH cocktails in cans! They are delicious and lower alcohol - they have a negroni that is 14%

Bairnsmum05 · 15/12/2022 06:27

@Thefriendlyone oh don't I know it! Goes down far too easily 🤣

girlmom21 · 15/12/2022 06:40

If you're not always keen on the Koppaberg flavours, Old Mout ciders flavours are a little more muted.

Cao77 · 15/12/2022 06:44

French Martini....Vodka, chambord, pineapple juice and ice but you need a cocktail shaker to mix till frothy! 😋

Now this sounds like something I can get behind!
