I really like mine. I've never tried any of the alternatives.

DramaAlpaca · 14/12/2022 00:59

Mine makes getting out of bed in the winter so much easier, and I'm emphatically not a morning person at any time of year.

I'd definitely recommend. It's a nice, slow, gentle wake up.

ponygirlcurtis · 14/12/2022 01:07

I have a Lumie, would absolutely recommend. Makes a huge difference for me.

user922218 · 14/12/2022 01:28

I also love my Lumie! So much nicer to wake up with it instead of an iPhone alarm!

DuchessDandelion · 14/12/2022 01:58

Love mine.
Think they're overpriced for what they are but I don't regret buying it - makes mornjngs much easier

Bemyclementine · 14/12/2022 13:12

I should naybe just go to bed earlier. I do find the dark mornings difficult though.

Meggymoo777 · 14/12/2022 13:19

Love my Lumie! Helps me wind down in the evening and not read for too long (sunset timer) and so love waking gently with the sunrise timer. 10/10 would recommend!

crosshatching · 14/12/2022 13:23

I love mine, waking up gently to birdsong is much better. Wish they were a bit easier to programme though.

PaulRobinsonsSeventhWife · 14/12/2022 13:28

Glad someone asked about these as I've been looking at them too and wondering if they work. Would like one with a radio but I'm not paying £200+ for the DAB one...might wait a bit and see if they put DAB in any of the cheaper ones.

Numbat2022 · 14/12/2022 13:34

Love mine, I hate dark mornings and it's really made a difference to how awake I feel. Also much prefer waking up to light than an alarm.

birdsandthewasps · 14/12/2022 13:38

Had our lummie years it’s fabulous

QuinkWashable · 14/12/2022 13:45

I had an original Lumie, then when I moved I got another (but the cheapest model) - I love it, I wouldn't want to go back to waking up to a normal alarm clock (I just use the light, so I wake gently, then I have my watch vibrate at the time I actually have to leave the bed)

I got a knockoff for the kids, and it isn't as good - not least because it's just so over-complicated that I keep forgetting how to set it/which buttons to use - whereas my lumie is simple.

I will say, my original was worth the extra money. My cheap lumie is fine, but you do see the light level jump in a way that my original never did (I wonder if it's something do do with the switch to LEDs from a normal bulb too)

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 14/12/2022 13:47

Love mine, had it for years.

Have struggled a bit recently getting replacement bulbs, I’m thinking of upgrading it to a newer LED model.

Spirael · 14/12/2022 13:57

As an alternative, you can get smart lighting to operate in a similar way. I have a smart routine that slowly turns on the ceiling and bedside lights from half an hour before I need to wake up.

Then, as they come to maximum brightness (full spectrum), it also fades in my favourite radio station - but I could set it to play birdsong or similar. It's a much nicer way to wake up than suddenly having an alarm go off in your ear, and I find it helps a lot in winter.

If you've got a smart home assistant and any smart lighting in place already, you might find the cost ends up cheaper than a Lumie.

shreddies · 14/12/2022 13:59

I really love mine. Makes a huge difference. I hated waking up in the dark to my horrible phone alarm.

I know wake with gradual light and the alarm is a cat purring!

paulmccartneysbagel · 14/12/2022 14:28

I've just got the cheapest one, I think it was around £30. It makes getting up in the winter so much easier, very glad I got it and definitely recommend!

ghjklo · 14/12/2022 14:30

mine is a few years old, recently dug it out. not sure yet if it makes a big difference, I think the light could be brighter and would love a radio on it!! I have just invested in a 10,000 lux light to go alongside it, hoping that will wake us more than the lumie has so far.

One thing - official Lumie bulbs are super expensive but you can get equivalent non-brand ones much cheaper with the same fitting / brightness.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 14/12/2022 14:33

My husband has one and loves it. I can't stand it , it really disrupts the last hour of my sleep as I like to be in total darkness until I get up. But I know I'm in the minority so I just put my head under the duvet!

Rainbowshine · 14/12/2022 14:35

As a waking up light (mine also does a sunset so dimming gradually for bedtime) it’s fantastic. As an alarm/radio it’s a bit 1990s compared to those without the light functionality. The menu is a bit of a task to navigate but once it’s set up it really helps having the gradual light brightening in the morning.

Bemyclementine · 14/12/2022 19:21

I'd really just want it for waking up with the light. I'm so tired all the time, that I need an alarm to be up in time, and hate being dragged from the depths of sleep I was hoping a lumie might help me wake more gradually.

OP posts:
Danana · 14/12/2022 19:24

I love mine too, and for me the gradual sunset is also just as useful.

Jenn3112 · 14/12/2022 20:32

I have the cheapest one. The light is good, but the animal sounds (which are the only options for the alarm) are annoying. If I had £200 or so I would get the top of the range one with more sounds, bluetooth speakers and a radio. I was just looking yesterday but can't justify spending that much just because
the birds annoy me.

Horsemad · 14/12/2022 21:17

I have one but find it complicated to use and also, DH hates the light coming on and whinges about that.

Baconand · 14/12/2022 21:20

Yes mine helps me a lot. I have a sleep disorder and it does make a big difference.

darkwinterdays · 14/12/2022 21:21

Love mine, wouldn't get through winter without it. Wakes me up gradually to the sound of wave's breaking. I am not a morning person so it makes a big difference to everyone!
