I'm Doing a Morrisons Shop - What Should I Order?

Tollumi · 13/12/2022 21:00

I thought a nice, calming shopping thread was in order.

I never shop at Morrisons, but I'm doing a random order with them for one item. What's amazing at Morrisons that I should buy? What have I been missing? It's delivery btw, so got to be ordered online.

The bakery bread is amazing at Morrisons

Agreed. Their salt and pepper bread rolls are delicious.

MandarinCat · 14/12/2022 00:43

I like their Coburg loaf and jam donuts. The fish counter is good.

Cazbeau · 14/12/2022 00:45

Their nourish yoghurt is lovely, the best coleslaw , the best ice cream and the best forest Spanish honey. Also the best Somerset crunch cheddar.
Their bacon is great. They discontinued their the best Brittany butter with sea salt crystals and I’m still sad about it as it was literally the nicest butter ever.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/12/2022 03:35

Second the pitta breads, they're the best standard supermarket ones by far. Garlic and coriander ones especially good.

Morrisons is really good at local produce, I didn't realise most of the country see Longley Farm cottage cheese as the special nice version to seek out, its always been the basic standard, likewise their yogurts here in Yorkshire. But it does explain why most people see cottage cheese as disappointing diet food rather than creamy deliciousness if they're used to other versions.

The alloili is also in Home Bargains and was still under £1 when I bought some a couple of weeks ago. It doesn't go off for ages so I bought 3 tubs.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/12/2022 03:39

Forgot to mention the 3 for £10 on frozen seafood, really good variety that you don't normally see in supermarkets unless you're paying £££s in Waitrose.

Good fresh fish counter too. They do a good range of 'Best' fresh fish cakes including one or two melt in the middle unbreaded ones that are really nice.

Mummyoftwo91 · 14/12/2022 03:55

The spicy grated cheese

wadiwalker · 14/12/2022 06:06

Yes to all the bakery stuff mentioned already! I haven't tried the alioli but adding it to my own list right now.

My recommendation if their festive cheese selection right now. It's much the same cheeses you usually get. But it's packaged so well. It's a little cube of 4 cheese wheels £5 and so much more practical for saving essential Xmas fridge space than the regular Xmas selections.

Intrigued by this thread I've just checked out Morrisons online and can't find half these things eg rectangular scones, frozen shell on shrimp... is it store dependent?

You're right the scones are not showing up online. My local Morrisons always has them though. They are in the baked in store style packaging so perhaps not available online. They taste more like rock buns than scones IMO.

This is them. More square than rectangular!

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 14/12/2022 07:17

Ah thank you! We do have one in the next town over but it's a bit dingy so I never go. Perhaps I should take a closer look!

BarbaraofSeville · 14/12/2022 07:23

Those scones are the only edible scones sold in supermarkets IMHO, except possibly the fresh ones off the M&S bakery counter. All the 'normal' packaged scones are horrible in comparison, even from Waitrose.

QueueEtwo · 14/12/2022 07:31

I had a fish pie from the fishmonger section this week that was delicious!

Also a giant family size mince pie tart from the bakery, that was amazing & only £1.50!
ours is such a depressing place though -
maybe I need to go back to click & collect!

These are the shrimp. You might be hiding out of stock stuff

Their custard donuts. Best of any of the supermarkets by a country mile.

loveisagirlnameddaisy · 14/12/2022 09:53

@Moltenpink Yes, looks like I was. They look good - shame they're out of stock

Aussiemum80 · 14/12/2022 12:51

This post has inspired me to do a Morrisons shop- I think OP should get commission!

Bananadramallamas · 14/12/2022 12:59

The bakewell tarts from the bakery are delicious.
I always get Longley Farm small yogurts there too. Like yogurt is supposed to taste, imo.

hiredandsqueak · 14/12/2022 13:00

Whatever you order be prepared for a fair few items to be missing if it's the same where you live as it is here. Had fourteen missing items at the weekend, the picker obviously didn't know the difference between cabbage and cauliflower as my two cabbages were replaced with cauliflower. The pizza was two days out of date the bread on the sell by date and already hard and the ham had been substituted but not indicated on the substitutes or missing items. I'm finding it works out cheaper to shop with Ocado than Morrisons lately.

Totally agree re cottage cheese. I buy the Langley farm too. My Italian godmother insists it's the closest to what they'd use in Italy for spinach cannelloni, not ricotta which is too stodgy.
Thanks for the thread OP, some great recommendations!

Same!

I'm going to Morrisons Friday 😁

darisdet · 14/12/2022 16:29

They sell Samyang ramen pots good for the store cupboard if you like that sort of thing. At least they used to. I no longer shop there.

Right, my first Morrisons shop is going to be delivered tonight (had to get a later slot) and EVERYTHING is there! I've already booked another slot for next week.

I'm really excited. I love new food Grin

@Tollumi Grin
I was like that in Tesco - I think I live in the only place that has loads of Tesco express stores but no actual big one
I went with my dad. "I'll pay" he said, bravely
Half way round he started looking a little concerned Blush
