McDonalds now charge for sauce ...

And you're doomed if you don't notice that you have to add it to the order. There's no going back!

I ordered table delivery, then went to use the dispenser thingys but they were empty, so when the guy brought the food over, I asked if we could have some sauce please. He said they're 10p each now sorry, I said no problem but I only have card. He said you have to add it to the food order, you can't just order sauce.

Sauce-less fries are very sad.

(Obviously light hearted, I know we have lots of bigger problems right now, but this is right up there with 60p carrier bags!)

Some McDonald’s have always charged, depending on the franchise

PortiasBiscuit · 11/12/2022 20:17

More pointless bloody plastic waste too I guess…

birdsandthewasps · 11/12/2022 20:18

When you told them the dispensers were empty what did they say?

I feel your pain I’d be devastated 😢

Ostryga · 11/12/2022 20:19

I wouldn’t mind but they never put the fecking sauce in the bag anyway when I order so I may as well just chuck 50p out of the window anytime I get Maccas.

SecretVictoria · 11/12/2022 20:19

It’s always been chargeable, but most didn’t. If you order on the app/touchscreen you have to add it and it’s 10p.

This! The amount of times we’ve had food missing from our order is crazy, now we also have to check that they’ve included the sauces we paid for

canyon2000 · 11/12/2022 20:22

I went to McDonalds today and they didn't charge for sauce. When they brought the order to the table they asked us if we wanted sauce and gave us 3 ketchups free of charge.

Needmorelego · 11/12/2022 20:26

Yes I was charged 10p at one branch but not at another (and they are probably 10 minutes away from each other).
Funny thing is I always say "can I have ONE tomato sauce please" and they always give me 2. If I wanted 2 I would have asked for 2. If they just gave me the 1 as requested they wouldn't now having to be charging 10p 😂

daffodilandtulip · 11/12/2022 20:27

I suppose it depends on the franchise. I knew they had the dispensers so I've never thought to order sachets. I told them they were empty and he just shrugged. Like pp said, it's more plastic waste too. The dispensers use paper cartons - make a big deal about giving paper straws but then make you have sauce in plastic Hmm

I worked for them 34 years ago as a teenager and they charged 10p per pot of sauce if you didn’t order chicken nuggets, and they didn’t have the dispensers of ketchup/bbq sauce available either, so it really isn’t anything new.

Gatekeeper · 11/12/2022 20:29

i got a takeaway for ds yesterday, ordering from the touch screen. No charge for sauce and I got 3

Best (or worst🤔😩) macdonalds boob I had was put in an order in drive thru after work, took back to three hungry kids to find that the mcchicken sandwich meal that I had asked for with nothing on (ie no lettuce or mayo for one of my little fusspots) literally had nothing on...... As in a plain bap😕 too tired to go back I scraped the lettuce off mine for said child and had a chip barm🤦

WeDontNeedToTalkAboutJamie · 11/12/2022 20:30

They charged when I was a teen. You got 1 pot free with a meal, and additional pots were 10p.
No dispensers then either.

daffodilandtulip · 11/12/2022 20:33

I feel like I've been going to this same one since I was a teen, and they've never charged. It's not so much the charge, it's the forbidden sauce because I hadn't ordered 😭

I want a flashing sign saying "order your sauce now or you won't have any!"

Got three ketchup with our order today which we didn't ask for. Someone came to our table and asked if we wanted anything - salt, napkins, sauce etc. I've never been charged if I say yes.

gogohmm · 11/12/2022 22:28

Depends on the branch, free here but it's franchise operated

Kanaloa · 11/12/2022 22:30

I always get ketchup, never been charged. How annoying!

MissDollyMix · 11/12/2022 22:31

I’ve eaten a lot of McDonald’s in my life and never once been charged for sauce. I didn’t realise what a charmed life I had lead…
I also carry a bottle of ketchup in my car though for any takeaway emergencies. I refuse to pay exorbitant amounts for piddling portions of sauce.

Tuichi · 11/12/2022 22:38

Disappointing news. It’s not so much the having to pay, but the fact the sachets have so little in. Two of those isn’t going to do the job. The plastic pots are somewhat better, but the little paper cups loaded up is the best. I need ketchup in the burger, a good mound for the chips and enough left over to dunk the edge of the bun in. A smear of ketchup from a sachet will not suffice.

RocketIceLollie · 11/12/2022 22:56

It's a bit like fish n chips shops. Since covid for some reason they don't seem to like you putting your own sauce or salt on your meal anymore. They seem to now ask if you'd like some added to your meal and insisting they pour it on themselves.

Our local council instructed chip shops that counter staff must put salt and vinegar on rather than letting customers do it themselves as a health initiative claiming when customers do it, they are likely to use too much!

Yes!! Double yes to the edge of the bun!! My fries were very sad and pathetic.

It is annoying. But there is one sauce for free. And it is the best sauce. You can’t add it on the order. You have to ask. And no I am not telling because it’s my favourite and when it’s not available it ruins my whole meal!

How on earth do the council have the power to decide what quantity of salt and sauce one decides to put on their chips? And what's the stipulated measure of quantity allowance? One shake, two shakes of the salt shaker? Actually, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the council interfered like this these days!

It s the lack of milk that frustrates me in tea. There is not option to order the milk, but they ever seem to out it in so have to go and ask for it. At drive in, if forget then black tea it is,
