Non-Christians on Christmas Jumper Day

AFertalleOff · 10/12/2022 22:28

Work are having a Christmas Jumper Day and a festive meal with staff and service users. I would also like to wear something cheesily festive, but as I'm Jewish it wouldn't be a Christmas jumper. Would it cause offence if I wore a Channuka jumper?

Of course not. People wear all sorts!

PermanentTemporary · 10/12/2022 22:30

Not to me, go ahead. Tbh I don't own a Christmas jumper and have no wish to, but in these circumstances would wear a green or red jumper and some sparkly earrings or something.

Surelyitscoffeetime · 10/12/2022 22:31

I would love this! What a fab idea!

People don't really care one jot what's on the jumpers. It's just supposed to be a bit of fun. I work in a school. People wear all sorts including just ordinary clothes.

gogohmm · 10/12/2022 22:33

Wear whatever you like, whenever I get requests like this I ignore, don't own a Christmas jumper. Wearing a Chanukah one is perfect

Geansai · 10/12/2022 22:34

Plenty of jumpers out there with snowmen/penguins as well. Even just a regular jumper with battery lights tied around you would suffice 😅

SoundsOfThunder · 10/12/2022 22:34

Wear what you want.
Lots of Christmas jumpers have nothing to do with Christmas anyway. Snowflakes, stars, random patterns all feature.

NuffSaidSam · 10/12/2022 22:34

I can't imagine anyone will care. Lots of Christmas jumpers are just winter jumpers anyway (snowflakes, robins, snowmen etc.)

Changingplace · 10/12/2022 22:36

Christmas jumpers are typically sparkly or Father Christmas/Christmas trees etc rather than religious - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a religious Christmas jumper in any case.

Watercoloursky · 10/12/2022 22:36

Most Christmas jumpers aren't overtly Christian... mine has a sloth on it! 😅

Falalalalaaah · 10/12/2022 22:41

This would be completely fine by me if I worked with you op. You should be able to celebrate your holiday.

Most Christmas jumpers have nothing to do with Christianity either. It's all penguins and fair isle usually at my work or slogans saying something about being merry and bright or sparkling all the way etc

Doveyouknow · 10/12/2022 22:41

Why would anyone mind? It's just a bit of fun. Lots of people wear sparkly jumpers or red / green jumpers. A chunnuka jumper will be fine.

NippyWoowoo · 10/12/2022 22:42

I'm an atheist and don't consider Christmas jumpers religious. I've never worn (or seen) any with crosses or nativity scenes on it.

But I also see no issue in wearing whatever jumper you like

AFertalleOff · 10/12/2022 22:42

I am often tempted by jumpers with sloths on them. All year round. 😄

DDs has a psychotic-looking penguin on it.
Mine has two sequinned dachshunds wearing Santa hats.

Christmas, Yule, Solstice ...
A Channuka jumper would be a fine addition to the festive mix.

Mosaic123 · 10/12/2022 22:43

Perfect choice.

JustCakeInDrag · 10/12/2022 22:44

Not in the slightest. TBH it would be more correctly described as a ‘festive’ jumper day. You could have something completely secular if you wanted but a Chanukah jumper would be brilliant.

icegoose · 10/12/2022 22:47

Absolutely not, it would be great.
A good festive addition.

Itsoktogiveup · 10/12/2022 22:50

‘Christmas’ jumpers are just winter jumpers. I have never seen one with any kind of religious symbol on. Mostly people wear Santa, reindeer, winter trees, snowflakes etc. (Many of which actually relate to pre-Christian pagan traditions if you wanna get technical.) Mine has a famous actor’s face and a santa hat. Posh people wear Fair Isle sweaters.

If you go wearing a jumper with religious symbols of a different religion, that feels like an attention seeking statement, which it would be. I wouldn’t be ‘offended’ but I would roll my eyes and think you were about to have a very boring over-analytical conversation about the deep meanings of a season that’s supposed to be about keeping everyone cheerful at midwinter.

rookiemere · 10/12/2022 22:50

That sounds like a great idea. Christmas jumper day isn't at all religious, it's just an excuse to get dressed up in something a bit different.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 10/12/2022 22:53

Mine has a penguin on.

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 10/12/2022 22:56

i had no idea that Chanukkah jumpers existed but now I want one!

Tuilpmouse · 10/12/2022 22:57

Aren't you overthinking this a bit?
I don't think I've ever seen as "Christian" Christmas jumper! They're not religious at all! Wearing a jumper with something like a polar bear on it is surely something a Christian, Jew or atheist can do without compromising on anything!

Tuilpmouse · 10/12/2022 22:58

Agree with this.

FlamingJingleBells · 10/12/2022 22:59

I just wear a jumper with stars on it so it can be worn right throughout the year. Wear what you feel comfortable in.
