What will happen to Amazon delivery with alcohol if no one over 18 in?

Dd ordered all her Christmas presents off my Amazon account yesterday before heading off to stay with her boyfriend for the weekend. Being a typical teen it didn't occur to her to check I would actually be in, dh and I are going out today. (She was shocked by this information as we only exist in a bubble for her convenience). Dd2 will be home but she is 16. Anyway words were had and she knows not to do this again, I said I'm sure it would be ok but on checking the order she has ordered alcohol. I know they won't deliver it, will they try again next day or is it all lost?

She has literally bought all her Christmas presents so won't be able to get any gifts if it doesn't get re delivered or refunded pretty quick.

Why do kids find new ways to make stress when there doesn't need to be any?

Why is she ordering alcohol if she's 16?

In my experience they will try redelivering if nobody is home.

MillyMollyManky · 10/12/2022 07:44

They should take it away and redeliver.

IME they're pretty slack. Can DD2 just say she's 18 if necessary? Worst case- they don't believe her and have to redeliver but there's a decent chance they'll take her at her word in order to get the job done.

OP said she's buying Christmas presents.

Last year Amazon left a package with a bottle of vodka in my back garden when I wasn’t in.

SheWoreYellow · 10/12/2022 07:46

They won’t deliver it. They might try and leave it with a neighbour? I’m not sure, with it having alcohol.

Luckypoppy · 10/12/2022 07:46

It's a different DD. I assume over 18 as DD2 is 16.

ditavonteesed · 10/12/2022 07:46

It's dd1 that's ordered stuff, she is 19, dd2 will be the only one home. No way will she lie she gets really anxious about stuff so unless they don't ask she won't be able to take it.

They won’t take a 16 year olds word for it. They asked my 48 year old husband for ID as a standard check.

Valhalla17 · 10/12/2022 07:48

Can she ask a neighbour to accept it when the delivery person arrives?

Mindymomo · 10/12/2022 07:49

My adult son ordered some weights and was told a signature was required, we were out and found package on doorstep when we returned. If your 16 year old is home I doubt they would ask for proof of age, even if they did ring the doorbell, which they never do with our deliveries. DS also ordered cutlery which again needed a signature yesterday, we were in and found package on doorstep when we went out.

MolesOnPoles · 10/12/2022 07:51

We’ve had the idiotic situation where they wouldn’t leave it with my 19yo cousin because she didn’t have ID on her… but would leave it in the garden shed when she immediately retrieved it.

So you might be lucky and have a slightly dim driver.

ditavonteesed · 10/12/2022 07:59

So hopefully they will do what they normally do and just chuck it by the back door. They normally can't get parked so do just dump the parcels, especially as the dogs are usually barking by that point.

I had alcohol delivered from them recently. They just left it at the door.

Dittosaw · 10/12/2022 08:03

They are not allowed to deliver to under 18’s and will lose their job if they do.

our local fb page had an advert for a family with under 18 go’s to buy a grocery delivery and then deliberately only have under 18 home to test if the delivery people are doing their job.

Twixxed · 10/12/2022 08:03

I had a similar worry when ordering a knife. They just left it in the porch! Chances are they won't even ask/will happily leave it with a neighbour instead.

Soontobe60 · 10/12/2022 08:05

Tell your DD that if they ask how old she is, and won’t leave it with her, to drop it at the neighbours. Then DD can collect it from them?

DD2 is 16, DD1 ( who ordered the Amazon purchases) will be out

HeddaGarbled · 10/12/2022 08:06

We had this happen to us this week - delivery driver came back in the evening, bless him.

WhoWants2Know · 10/12/2022 08:07

I had two gift bottles of baileys delivered with no problem

lookersnoopy · 10/12/2022 08:07

Can she not just change the delivery instructions and specify to leave it with a neighbour?

WhoWants2Know · 10/12/2022 08:07

Sorry, what I meant to say was that they were delivered to my shed.

Welshy26 · 10/12/2022 08:09

My 16 year old son was the only one home when I ordered alcohol off Amazon. He gave a fake birthdate and took the order in.

forlornlorna1 · 10/12/2022 08:09

Can you not change delivery date?

CoffeeBoy · 10/12/2022 08:10

Can the younger dd not just borrow the older dds id

DeliberatelyObtuse · 10/12/2022 08:13

This happened to us

They wouldn't deliver but came back later
