What will happen to Amazon delivery with alcohol if no one over 18 in?

Dd ordered all her Christmas presents off my Amazon account yesterday before heading off to stay with her boyfriend for the weekend. Being a typical teen it didn't occur to her to check I would actually be in, dh and I are going out today. (She was shocked by this information as we only exist in a bubble for her convenience). Dd2 will be home but she is 16. Anyway words were had and she knows not to do this again, I said I'm sure it would be ok but on checking the order she has ordered alcohol. I know they won't deliver it, will they try again next day or is it all lost?

She has literally bought all her Christmas presents so won't be able to get any gifts if it doesn't get re delivered or refunded pretty quick.

Why do kids find new ways to make stress when there doesn't need to be any?

I don't know about Amazon but I had a grocery delivery from Tesco last week. No alcohol or tobacco, just groceries.

I had covid so was upstairs in my bedroom and had to show my face at the top of the stairs as the driver wouldn't leave the order with an under 18.

I have ordered something before that is age restricted from Amazon a couple of times they ask me for ID. Been sent me gin on a couple of occasions they handed it to 11 year old ds who was home with 19 year old dd. Not sure that alcohol is always flagged up in Amazon deliveries.

I guess drivers vary but around here they insist on seeing your ID even when you are clearly over 18. You should let your daughter sort this out. She's old enough to take some responsibility!

All they will do is ask for your DD16s age, get her to add two years on, Amazon driver couldn’t care less he’ll just be happy to have dropped another parcel off successfully.

amylou8 · 10/12/2022 08:27

The app needs you to age check and put in the date of birth and ID method at delivery. Unless the courier makes this up, and they're not likely to as Amazon do checks with mystery shoppers, then it won't be delivered. Your courier will also have to drive it back to the depot at the end of their block, using their own fuel and time, so if possible change the delivery.

If you get an Amazon driver who is a risk taker, they will just leave it somewhere. If not they will re deliver as soon as they can - sometimes on the same day I’ve found. I wouldn’t bother getting stressed about this or “having words” with your DD, it’s just a delivery….

boomboombang · 10/12/2022 08:31

Can’t she change the delievry date or your might get lucky with the delivery window

tattychicken · 10/12/2022 08:34

I had a delivery of gin a few days, I just had to give my year of birth. Can she just say a year a few years before her actual year of birth?

ditavonteesed · 10/12/2022 08:37

I would like to change delivery date but I can't see where you can do this on the amazon link. That's what I actually went on to do when I realised the alcohol. Is there a way to do that?

@ditavonteesed if you go into the order on the app you can add delivery instructions like leave at the back gate.
Might not work though, every time something age read tricked is delivered they want to see my ID and they type my birthdate into their computer thing.

Bewitched005 · 10/12/2022 09:18

Don't be so dramatic. It's an Amazon delivery. Amazon drivers deliver. They might ask for ID but why can't your 16 year old give the ID of her sister? The driver won't care. I can't believe you 'had words' with your 19 year old. She's an adult.

Cheeseandhoney · 10/12/2022 09:21

I don’t understand why you are so angry and having words. It’s so not a big deal

chineapplepunks · 10/12/2022 09:21

I had this yesterday, all the did was ask the year I was born and my name.

123woop · 10/12/2022 10:55

No I've got ID'd before for Amazon. They'll deliver what they can and if they can't deliver the rest they'll take it away and redeliver on another date (happens quite often with us around birthdays and Xmas 🤣)

curiousbanana · 10/12/2022 11:03

If they knock tell DD2 to just give DD1 year of birth.

Our delivery guy just leaves the parcel by the door if we're not in.
