Cyprus or Lanzarote for holiday?

snowissfalling · 09/12/2022 22:15

Booking our holiday for next year.
Found 10 nights at either destination for under £1,200 all inclusive each.
We think it's a really good deal
Where would you pick?
Cyprus hotel is in protaras and lanzarote is Puerto Del Carmen
We are both 37 and will be with no kids.

Cyprus is amazing in September, my favourite month. Slightly cooler so you can get out and about, less busy but everything is still open. Lanzarote is nice but to me Cyprus has so much more to offer

addictedtotheflats · 09/12/2022 22:21

100% cyprus

Don’t go to Lanzarote, it’s horrible.

It’s lovely. A real suprising gem. Very beautiful and under developed, we were blown away by it. The architecture and the environment are just stunning. Wonderful villages, vineyards, food.

Lanzarote is lovely. Good hiking, snorkeling, scuba and surfing and some amazing full blown art buildings/ complexes made out of the volcanic features, plus the landscape itself is incredible. It's easy to get around as the roads aren't particularly busy and it has a really nice general vibe to it.

Lol, are you a local trying to keep the place to yourself?

Hoppinggreen · 09/12/2022 22:27

Pre kids we went to “Lanzagrotty”
Our expectations were low but it was actually lovely.
We also liked Cyprus

Not a lot of help, sorry

Lanzarote is beautiful. A couple of the resorts aren't that nice but you can escape in a hire car and explore the island which is fascinating. Lots of places to visit, especially if you like art/design/architecture, tiny cove beaches, the surprisingly green north side of the island, the jaw dropping views as you head along the coast road to the viewing point at the tip, the volcano park, surfing...

TheFairyCaravan · 09/12/2022 22:28

We’ve been to Lanzarote 3 times, so have given it a fair crack. The most recent time was last September. We hired a car and went all over. It was awful. If someone offered me a free holiday there I”d decline it.

chipsandpeas · 09/12/2022 22:29

protaras is beautiful, never been to lanzarote
what hotel is it in protaras?

cyprus is one of my favourite places in the world

lilyfire · 09/12/2022 22:32

I thought Lanzarote was lovely. We hired a car and went to see various Caesar Manrique architecture. Went to the volcanic park thingy and amazing caves. Saw a concert in the cactus garden cave concert hall. Lovely beaches. Lots to see away from the main towns.

Oh no, what a shame. It's rough, not enjoying a holiday.

Soproudoflionesses · 09/12/2022 22:41

Been to both but preferred Cyprus

catsonahottinroof · 09/12/2022 22:50

I'd choose Cyprus but only been there once. I'd love to go back but would also like to go to Lanzarote. We went to the Paphos area in October/November and it was unusually warm.
Cyprus: sea a lovely temperature for swimming in, nice beaches, lots of choices of restaurants, nice food, interesting historical sites.
Lanzarote: interesting volcanic landscape, more laid back vibe, would probably need to hire a car, interesting architecture (Cesar Manrique).

snowissfalling · 09/12/2022 22:51

@chipsandpeas it's the Odessa beach hotel
It seems quite a good location

I think that's expensive for both of them for September. Presumably 5*? I would only go B&B as so many nice places to eat on both.

Twospaniels · 09/12/2022 22:57

We holiday in both most years.
Lanzarote, we got to Puerto Calero, Puerto de Carmen is nice. Lots to see on the island. Hire a car and take a drive round

Cyprus, TBF we’ve only stayed near Coral Bay which is near Paphos but have hired a car and drive all around that end of the island.

We love both, but in September would probably choose Cyprus

Yes its a great location, i try to stay around that area when im in protaras - the beach is lovely, theres a supermarket and a mcdonalds at the top of the road, couple of small shops heading down towards the beach - at the beach theres a pier where you can do boat trips

Crankley · 10/12/2022 20:33

Lanzarote isn't nicknamed Lanzagrote for no reason.

user1474315215 · 10/12/2022 20:35

Protatas is fabulous! We've stayed there four times and it's my all time favourite place.

And yet you’ve been 3 times?!

I like Lanzarote, but when I went I overheard people in the hotel complaining the island was boring. I don’t think it’s got much night life (clubs etc). That didn’t bother me so I thought it was great! I may have rose tinted glasses from a trip when I was a kid though.

Twiglets1 · 10/12/2022 20:36

Lanzarote has some lovely resorts like Playa Blanca. But I would probably pick Cyprus for the food and lovely beaches

SpentDandelion · 10/12/2022 20:42

I would highly recommend Crystal Springs Hotel in Protarus Cyprus. We went late June early July and it was scorching hot.

JorisBonson · 10/12/2022 20:44

Northern Cyprus is beautiful and dirt cheap Kyrenia is stunning.
