I do love my DH's company but he never goes out in the evening.

He's got a work sleepover and I'm not saying I'm really looking forward to it but I'm putting on fresh bedlinen, going to Waitrose for some food treats and buying some expensive Christmas candles! Not that he's not worth these nice things, he's just not that fussed.

Now I need a really good film, not necessarily festive but something warm and fuzzy but not Hallmarky. Any suggestions?

When Harry Met Sally - so smart & snappy, with a tiny bit of Xmas content but not too much.
It's a film that's over 30 years old, and has never been beaten.

Mrs Harris goes to Paris

TidyDancer · 09/12/2022 09:07

If you did want a Christmas film, the new one on prime Your Christmas Or Mine is decent.

I quite like Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve. Both ensemble films and quite sweet.

SusiePevensie · 09/12/2022 09:08

It happened one night.

holierthanthou73 · 09/12/2022 09:10

Will have to be Love Actually

KatherineofGaunt · 09/12/2022 09:11

My Big Fat Greek Wedding!

Will have to be Love Actually

Naturally but I saw it at the weekend and can almost quote the whole thing!

Absolutely this

DCINightingale · 09/12/2022 09:14

Second the recommendation for New Years Eve!

HelloBunny · 09/12/2022 09:15

Bridget Jones movies
SATC the first movie
The Devil Wears Prada
The one with Dakota (Melanie Griffiths daughter) where she lives in New York & Rebel Wilson is her mate
He’s Just Not That Into You

Bananaramad · 09/12/2022 09:16

The Holiday, bit cheesy but enjoyable

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 09/12/2022 09:16

If you can find it (think it's on iPlayer at the moment), The Object of my Affection. Hands down my favourite ever movie.

purpleme12 · 09/12/2022 09:17

To fit the description in your OP
I would say Love Actually or Serendipity

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 09/12/2022 09:19

Two Weeks Notice - so funny; Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock both at the top of their game.

purpleme12 · 09/12/2022 09:19

Oh god sorry I read it that you wanted festive!
That's why I answered festive ones lol.
My favourite rom com ever is Dirty Dancing

BoxOfCats · 09/12/2022 09:20

Only You starring Robert Downey Jr and Marisa Tomei

ChessieDarling · 09/12/2022 09:21

10 Things I Hate About You (Heath 😍) or Four Weddings and a Funeral. I would hate to admit how many times I’ve watched those films over the years.
If Christmassy, I gather Your Christmas or Mine? on Amazon Prime is meant to be rather good.

LearnerCook · 09/12/2022 09:23

Serendipity! I've watched it over & over and never get bored.

Enjoy your evening!

ChessieDarling · 09/12/2022 09:23

Oh I also love The Proposal if only for the Betty White/Get Low and the Oscar-from-The-Office stripper scenes 😂

crumpet · 09/12/2022 09:24

The mention of Melanie Griffith reminded me of Working Girl

Hobbesmanc · 09/12/2022 09:24

I'm guessing Muriels Wedding is a bit obvious. What about sweet home Alabama? Ghost and Pretty woman still do it for me too.

If you want festive Last Christmas is cheesy but fun. And we enjoyed your Christmas or mine. Crap title but quite sweet.

AfterEightMintyCedric · 09/12/2022 09:24

More comedy with a hint of romance but the go-tos in our house (me and 18yo DD) are Sisters and Zookeeper.

If you fancy something festive but funny Bad Mom's Christmas is great.

PeachyMama · 09/12/2022 09:26

How to lose a guy in 10 days (so cheesy it's good), crazy rich Asians is so good if you haven't seen it!, also about time is probably my favourite!

AfterEightMintyCedric · 09/12/2022 09:26

Of you're looking for a bit vintage You've Got Mail is another good Meg Ryan one.

Covetthee · 09/12/2022 09:35

How to be single
how to lose a guy in 10 days
