What's your favourite rom com? Night in on my own..!

I do love my DH's company but he never goes out in the evening.

He's got a work sleepover and I'm not saying I'm really looking forward to it but I'm putting on fresh bedlinen, going to Waitrose for some food treats and buying some expensive Christmas candles! Not that he's not worth these nice things, he's just not that fussed.

Now I need a really good film, not necessarily festive but something warm and fuzzy but not Hallmarky. Any suggestions?

The devil wears prada is my go to for warm fuzziness. And I always dress a bit better for a few days afterwards which is a bonus

There's a great one called Set it Up on Netflix - been out a few years now but I really enjoyed it. Serendipity is good too x

I do not know about my favourite but I love rom coms. Some of the good ones I've reacted l watched;
The holidate,
Always be my maybe,
Isn't it romantic,
Crazy, rich, Asians,
The wedding date,
10 things I hate about you,
Hitch,
The perfect date,
Midnight at the magnolia,
She's all that ( I watched it loads of times when I was younger, haven't watched recently so do not know if it's aged well)
The wedding planner ( in fact a few of the jennifer lopez films, she chooses good films to star in)

Thanks for all your ideas!

I think I'm going for Serendipity tonight, followed by Christmas in Connecticut (1945)

I'm currently watching Sky's new film 'This is Christmas' with Ben Miller, Joanna Scanlon and Ralf Spall. Enjoying it so far.

I have a really soft spot for The Wedding Date. Debra Messing and Dermot Mulroney. I always watch it when it's on tv!

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 09/12/2022 20:17

Christmassy one - Family Man with Nicolas Cage.

Gwenhwyfar · 09/12/2022 20:21

The Mirror Has Two Faces is a surprisingly good 90s rom com available on Netflix.

I love this film! Had to buy it on dvd last Xmas as I couldn’t find anywhere to watch it.

I absolutely love "A lot like love" from the noughties. For some reason it was never that well known. Amanda Peet and Ashton Kutcher. DH and I rewatch it every so often. It's the one rom-com he has a soft spot for as we saw it abroad when first dating. Just typing this makes me hear Aqualung, Brighter than Sunshine from the soundtrack. Watch it. You won't regret it!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 09/12/2022 20:43

I love While You Were Sleeping.

christmassy, great chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman, great range of support characters.

AdventAdventure · 09/12/2022 21:47

I was starting to get worried that nobody had mentioned While You Were Sleeping. It's a gorgeous film. Bill Pullman leaning gets me every time.

The Holiday
Love actually
Man up
About time

Titsywoo · 09/12/2022 21:58

About Time is definitely my favourite (although there is a sad bit in it). It's such a lovely film.

Can't believe I forgot The Hating Game!

Pumpkin314 · 10/12/2022 00:35

Also voting for while you were sleeping. And while I'm thinking of Sandra bullock movies I really enjoyed the lost city - rom com adventure movie in the style of romancing the stone.

Icecreamandapplepie · 10/12/2022 00:36

Another while you were sleeping.

Glad I bothered to read page 2!

Pythonese · 10/12/2022 00:44

The Lake House, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Raiders of the Lost Arc, Land Girls, Pirates of the Caribbean. Great Expectations - David Lean version.

I love it. So many rom coms feel contrived, you can picture them being sketched out on a flip chart in a writers' brainstorming meeting. But even though While You Were Sleeping has a bonkers premise itself, it still feels so real and natural. And Joe Jr, Ox, and Elsie are fantastic.
