What do you cook when you have none of the usual staples like passata and coconut milk. I have tinned lentils, cheese and pasta, rice, eggs, tuna.

Tuna risotto?

Overthebow · 08/12/2022 13:22

With those ingredients I would make tuna pasta with cheese or egg fried rice.

Overthebow · 08/12/2022 13:22

Or cheesy omelette

Lentil soup
Cheesy pasta
Dhal & rice
Cheese or tuna omelette

maslinpan · 08/12/2022 13:24

If you have onion, tomato of some kind, I would make a lentil Bolognese sauce to go with pasta.

maslinpan · 08/12/2022 13:25

A bit of tomato puree as you don't have passata.

savehannah · 08/12/2022 13:27

Tuna pasta bake or carbonara type sauce ie stir in cheese and egg to pasta
Egg fried rice
Omelette
The lentils are a bit tricky without other ingredients but if you have any veg and spices make a curry and have it with the rice

This, maybe with a side of the lentils to add protein and bulk.

UnbeatenMum · 08/12/2022 13:30

Egg fried rice with lentils instead of peas.
Pasta with grated cheese.
Cold rice and tuna salad.

FinallyHere · 08/12/2022 13:37

Dhal & rice with tuna

Delicious.

Anonykunt · 08/12/2022 13:41

Thanks all. I didn't think of egg fried rice. Possibly because I'm out of onions! I thought about tuna pasta but find cheese sauce on pasta a bit much sometimes. Dhal with tuna sounds intriguing!

Lentil soup
cheese omelet
pasta with grated cheese (and olive oil, garlic and salt if you have those)
rice and lentils
egg sandwich
tuna sandwich
egg and cheese casserole

wildseas · 08/12/2022 14:04

Lentil pasta bake (you'd need something tomatoe-y)
Tuna pasta bake (you'd need something mayonaisey)
Cheese omlette
Tuna pasta salad
Dahl with rice (you'd need some sort of chilli / curry spices)

Hobbesmanc · 08/12/2022 14:07

Can you curry up the lentils? Curry paste or powder. Any veg. Leeks, mushrooms, spinach would add flavour even without onions

Simmer down in a pan. Hard boil the eggs. Then quarter and lifgly fry in oil and turmeric and serve on the Dahl.

I hear it's quite nice. Refreshing.

That sounds good but all out of veg.

Cook the pasta, drain and return to the hot pan, add beaten egg & splash of milk and the drained flaked tuna. Stir well till the egg is cooked. Serve with grated cheese if liked.

Hard boil a couple of eggs, cut into quarters, warm through the drained lentils. Serve the lentils in bowls with the hard boiled eggs on top.

Cheese omelette.

If you've got anything to make stock with such a stock cubes or powder, make some and cook some pasta in it. You've made pasta en brodo or pasta soup! Add some dried herbs if you've got them for more flavour.

doris9034 · 08/12/2022 14:28

Missing the point, but the ingredients you do have would be far more likely to be "staples" in my cupboard rather than coconut milk and passatta!!

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 08/12/2022 14:31

If I had to make something with only those ingredients, I would make tuna and boiled egg gratin with white sauce( assume you have basics like flour/milk/butter/spices.)

FlamingoQueen · 08/12/2022 14:33

Tuna pasta and grill some cheese on top.

DingDonkey · 08/12/2022 14:41

If it was me I'd go to the shop.

If I couldn't do that and those were the only things I had I'd mix an egg or two into cooked pasta and stir till cooked to make a carbonara type sauce then add cheese and tuna plus a generous dollop of butter if available.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/12/2022 14:43

Egg fried rice.

AriettyHomily · 08/12/2022 14:44

Omelette
Tuna pasta with cheese
