What do you cook when you have none of the usual staples like passata and coconut milk. I have tinned lentils, cheese and pasta, rice, eggs, tuna.

Tuna carbonara? Not sure if it’d be any good but it’s a meal.

If it was me I'd go to the shop.

If I couldn't do that and those were the only things I had I'd mix an egg or two into cooked pasta and stir till cooked to make a carbonara type sauce then add cheese and tuna plus a generous dollop of butter if available.

I'm trying to be good and not to shops until tomorrow. I'm normally like you! I'm stumped by no onions! But I think i will give the tuna fried rice a go.

I love that you think passata and coconut milk are staples by eggs and pasta aren't. So MN.

@MrsTerryPratchett I'm overly reliant on passata and coconut milk when I need to make a store cupboard meal. Of course I think the other things I have are staples but pasta and lentils are usually coated in the above. Grin

I sometimes do a lentil/cheese/egg bake and that's pretty good. Half a tick, I'll find the recipe.

Tricyrtis2022 · 08/12/2022 16:20

Lentil and cheese bake

8oz red lentils
3/4 pint water
1 onion, chopped
1oz butter
1 tsp mixed herbs
1 egg, beaten
1oz breadcrumbs
4oz cheese, grated

Cook the lentils, mix in the other ingredients. Tip into a 9 inch sandwich tin and bake for 30-40 mins on 190C - Gas 5

You say you don't have onions to hand but I think it would fine without.

I should t talk. I think Arborio rice is a staple!

Anonykunt · 08/12/2022 17:51

Thanks @Tricyrtis2022. That does sound nice. I wish I had opted for that instead of tuna egg fried rice. It was OK.
@MrsTerryPratchett ah but arborio absolutely absolutely is a staple as well as wine! Risotto without wine? Unthinkable!
