Coil insertion during section?

Hi. Posting here for traffic. Feeling rather miserable today!

I had a baby 6 days ago by elcs. During the procedure they fitted a copper coil. They said the strings would be trimmed after an ultrasound in Jan.

Today I noticed the strings coming out of my vagina by about 4cm. Called triage, doctor checked and said it's not out of place, strings are long, bye.

I thanked them, went on my way... Now home I'm thinking, wait, do I need to walk round with these strings hanging out of me for the next month ? I can feel it when I walk, like a dislodged tampon. Has anyone ever experienced this ? Should I call my GP or just wait it out ?

So pleased to hear this!
some sensible care from your GP at last. That is a huge length of thread … I would reiterate not to rely on it for contraception, until you have that follow-up scan. I’m sure that is not top of your thoughts with a new baby and recovering from a C/S, but just in case 😀

🤣 Not to worry, I definitely have no urge for that!

Oh no, I remember you on this thread and thought your treatment was terrible. Did it take long? Hope you’re ok now.

Thanks for replying.

No, it was pretty quick as I think it had been falling out for a few weeks. The strings were out of my vagina again and it had been uncomfortable for a while. I am relieved to be honest and wouldn't recommend that anyone get an IUD during a section unless they are given a point of contact to speak to if things go wrong ! Had I just waited for my appointment, I wouldn't have had it until tomorrow....!

That’s unbelievably bad, I wonder how many coils have this issue when inserted post birth, glad it’s finally sorted for you.

Expulsion following birth or when BF is fairly common but the treatment the OP had has been horrific so I hope that is a very isolated event!
