Postal strike-is there any point me posting parcels or should I wait?

I've got a few I want to get sent off today. Are they likely to be waiting around for ages before anyone posts them?

I'm waiting for loads of things too :(
I hope the postal workers get what they deserve but I hope it all gets resolved fast for everyone's sake!

My special delivery took eight days....

NeedWineNow · 05/12/2022 10:22

I've got two lots which I need to post. A Special Delivery package that I sent last Saturday (26th) only arrived this Saturday so they are taking a week. I'm just going to send them, notify recipients they are coming, and hope for the best.

JustCakeInDrag · 05/12/2022 10:24

Today isn’t a strike day. Get your stuff posted before the next one on Friday.

Roundandnour · 05/12/2022 10:31

Friday 25th was sent a guaranteed 48 hours parcel. Despite it being before the strike and medication guaranteed to be delivered, finally received it on Saturday.

Last Monday was sent a next day guaranteed by 1pm. Finally showed up on Friday.

personally I think it’s ridiculous that the company are still taking money for these services when they know they cannot deliver.

Spliffle · 05/12/2022 10:39

Post your stuff but expect it to take a month to get there. That's how long I'm waiting for things to arrive currently

DoraSpenlow · 05/12/2022 10:45

I sent a package on 48 hours signed for last Tuesday. I knew they were on strike Wednesday and Thurday but it wasn't urgent. Recipient emailed to say it arrived on Saturday morning. Was happy with that.

MermaidEyes · 05/12/2022 11:00

I'm still waiting for parcels posted 2 weeks ago so don't hold your breath they'll get there very fast. I reckon somewhere in the depths of Royal Mail there's a huge backlog of post that will eventually just be 'lost'.

ACollectionofCells · 05/12/2022 11:04

Thank you all. I'm worried about things getting lost in a backlog too. :(

Special deliveries are being prioritised.

mamabear715 · 05/12/2022 12:01

I was advised (by SUCH a helpful lady in the Post Office) to send mine Parcelforce as the local parcelforce guy was self employed & therefore not striking. Sister got her parcel the very next day.

ifonly4 · 05/12/2022 12:03

Personally I'd send them today. Might even get there before next strike date.

roarfeckingroarr · 05/12/2022 12:05

And yet Mumsnet loves strikers

To be fair to the strikers, Royal Mail services have been going downhill for years. Post getting lost more frequently, getting later and later in the day, online tracking that never seems to work, 48 hour delivery that 'could' take 72 hours...unfortunately they have the monopoly on general letter and post services.

bestbefore · 05/12/2022 12:42

I'd just use Evri - its cheaper anyway for parcels!

prescribingmum · 05/12/2022 13:43

I’ve used RM a fair bit to send and receive items over the past 2 weeks. Despite having 4 strike days, everything has arrived with a delay of no more than 3days. No courier has been more reliable than RM for me over the past 10 years, one lost item that was never found and 2 which arrived eventually (which I was compensated for)

dancingqueen123 · 07/12/2022 06:49

I can't believe they are doing this now. As if things aren't shit enough!

BadgerLovesMash · 07/12/2022 06:52

I would use evri or yodel. Fully tracked and I havent had an issue with them. I've posted over 50 parcels from vinted and all have arrived quickly and safely.

Clouds3898 · 07/12/2022 06:54

We've just sent out all the Christmas presents via DPD this year instead

Metabigot · 07/12/2022 06:54

Post parcels? Yes
Use Royal Mail? No

Luckily its really easy to switch to dpd evri or yodel and drop at the corner shop.

Depends on the area.

We had no Evri driver in our local area for weeks - they delivered to town but all the surrounding villages had no driver for about 6-8 weeks. I think there are still people waiting on parcels from September 🫤

thelobsterquadrille · 07/12/2022 07:13

I posted a bunch of parcels via RM 2nd Class last week and they all arrived fine. They took about 4-5 days which seems reasonable at this time of year.

Startuplife · 07/12/2022 07:15

Even last year without any strikes RM was awful. I ordered personalised crackers from Etsy at the end of November. They never arrived so the company sent me a whole new set which also didn’t arrive. I received both boxes in January so this Christmas I’m finally getting to use them.

Metabigot · 10/12/2022 20:04

In better news a special delivery from Belfast to Leeds got to me in 2 days. So special delivery is working. They prioritise this and even thr managers sort and deliver SD in strike times so if you can afford it that's thr best, possibly only RM option

amylou8 · 10/12/2022 20:12

RM don't clear the backlog before processing new post, so really it's pot luck. It may arrive as normal or it may sit in a depot for weeks. The couriers (yodel/Evri) seem to be coping so far, about 3 working days. I hope they sort it out soon, as a small online business my sales are down 80% because people aren't ordering, it's costing me a fortune, and I don't even use RM! People will loose their livelihoods over this if it's not resolved soon.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/12/2022 20:15

I’m still waiting for parcels delivered in November…..
