What festive Christmassy things are you doing today?

We are finally putting the tree up (a week late for us)! I've got a bottle of mulled wine for later and DH is making a mini Christmas dinner with roast chicken, pigs in blankets, sprouts with red cabbage and bacon, roast potatoes and a lovely gravy.

What is everyone doing today?

I have been to a local all-churches advent service. I admit I am a 'special occasion' churchgoer but I really enjoyed it. It's put me in the right mood for getting the Christmas box down from the loft and making some mincemeat this afternoon.

Singing at Forever Stars serenity garden later, in memory of all babies lost

I've written some cards and I'm baking some sugar cookies later but the booked Christmas activities and baby/toddler classes don't start until next week

Put some lights up on a tree outside, lit a Christmas smelling candle, and
off to buy some Aldi Baileys to sip/scoff

PurBal · 04/12/2022 14:31

Tree day!

duckup · 04/12/2022 14:34

Tree day for me too 🎄

Allschoolsareartschools · 04/12/2022 14:36

Wasn't planning on doing it today but I've put outside lights on our Holly bush & outdoor tree. It's grey & raining now so I'm glad I've got it done.
I've lit a couple of Christmas candles & making the most of the house to myself now.

FettleOfKish · 04/12/2022 14:37

Tree arrived yesterday and has been quietly unfurling itself after being netted. We have mulled wine. DH has got the decorations down and is planning a nice dinner.

But I'm on the couch feeling rotten with a cold and no enthusiasm for any it Sad

Stade197 · 04/12/2022 14:38

I'm going to send DP up into the loft to get the tree & dec's down, been putting it off as I know my 15 month old is going to spend the next few weeks pulling all the decorations off the tree! 🙃🌲

champagneplanet · 04/12/2022 14:40

Decorating the tree today, it's up, but is currently naked.

I wish they did something like that near me

MintJulia · 04/12/2022 14:42

cards, shopping, planning food,

making a batch of tiny cheese and olive scones to freeze for later. They're great for unexpected visitors because they take 5 mins to warm up, and are very moreish.

mamatoTails · 04/12/2022 14:43

We did the tree last weekend so today we are doing the outside lights.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 04/12/2022 14:43

Ignoring Christmas for as long as possible. Bah humbug (but I really dislike this time of year. Bloody love New Years Day and January!).

IggyAce · 04/12/2022 14:46

Roast dinner, roast beef, pigs in blankets and Yorkshire puddings & vegetables. It’s basically a mock run of our Christmas dinner. I’ve written out our Christmas cards and will watch a Christmas movie or two.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/12/2022 15:42

Making first mince pies, with mincemeat I made last year.
Put little potted tree outside the front door yesterday. Indoor (real) tree will have to wait.

bluechameleon · 04/12/2022 19:11

I did some Christmas crafts with 4yo DS2 this morning, then this afternoon we all went to a local National Trust place which has a Christmas Market, light trail and lovely trees in the house. So a very Christmassy day.

Samcro · 04/12/2022 19:13

I went to a carol service at dc care home, was lovely

jackstini · 04/12/2022 19:27

@MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat
Ours is near Nottingham in case you are in traveling distance

AngeloMysterioso · 04/12/2022 19:46

I made the wreaths for the front and back doors and put them up.

Traditionally we wait until after DS2’s birthday (9th) to put any decorations up.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 04/12/2022 19:55

Aw such lovely festive activities!

Tree is up now and living room looks all cosy and nice. Watching the football in the vain hope we might win...

I had a fleeting thought, 'oh heck, I suppose I've got to do Xmas cards sometime in the next few weeks'.

DH booked a Waitrose slot ... for the 27th, having missed the Xmas ones. But that's fine, probably more useful.

TheChosenTwo · 04/12/2022 22:58

@ErrolTheDragon by the time your shopping comes you’ll be crying out for fresh fruit and veg!
That’s actually quite a genius mistake to make.
today I’ve just done some wrapping for a friend who’s poorly, not feeling very festive to be honest.
We were going to do the tree in a couple of weekends time but dd is coming back from uni next weekend so will do it then and hopefully bring some festive cheer with it.

mnahmnah · 04/12/2022 22:59

Does lemsip and cough sweets count? While watching a cheesy Christmas film!

Franticbutterfly · 04/12/2022 23:01

We had a Christmas dinner rehearsal today. I have decided to eliminate parsnips. I've decided that they are more trouble than they are worth!
