He’s hard to buy for as he’ll just get what he himself throughout the year…

What he wants himself throughout the year* that should say

  • Socks
  • Went to a jumble sale today and found a coffee bag clip that is also a spoon
  • a nice scarf
  • a mug that he will like/appreciate
  • an artsy flower pot
  • after shave

Snap. DH maintains he doesn't want anything, but I need to get him something.

Bluelightbaby · 03/12/2022 18:21

Yep lurking for ideas too !! Was going to get him a robot lawmower but he likes to research his gadgets then thought a weekend away - which I still might do. As for a real present I’m struggling as he has everything !!!

Bluelightbaby · 03/12/2022 18:21

Was hoping I could give him a positive pg test but after a year of TTC that certainly would be a Xmas miracle !!!

Tillylime · 03/12/2022 18:22

My dh actually asked for a new toaster. The pastry warming bit has broken on ours and he wants to warm his croissants 🥐.
We generally have a no household items rule.
I got a Black Friday deal so it wasn’t too bad.
I will also buy him walnut whips because they are his favourite.

Hope you get your wish soon.

Squeezedsquash · 03/12/2022 18:23

@Bluelightbaby i hope one day your wish comes true.

HerRoyalNotness · 03/12/2022 18:24

He asked for
a work shirt (pink)
crazy bunny shirt
rick and morty calendar 🙄

i’d said we shouldn’t do gifts as we’re going away and had to buy loads of stuff for it. But there we go

will probably chuck in some chocolate.

cheshirecatssmile · 03/12/2022 18:25

Finger torch
Belly button cleaner

TinfoilTwat · 03/12/2022 18:28

Mine has made a list that includes things like 'an extension cable' and 'a new shovel for the compost'. By this reasoning my own Christmas list might include 'a nice set of Tupperware boxes' and 'some filters for the coffee machine' 🙄.

It is hard to get him something jolly. I've bought him a Swedish wooden throwing game that he'll play with the kids, and will add some chocolate liqueur sweets. And probably get him the dull stuff too so he has something to open.

thenightsky · 03/12/2022 18:30

A heated throw. He was made redundant in June and has now got a new job 100% working from home. The home office we've created for him has weird cold pockets, the worst being under the desk where his knees are, hence heated throw. Also, a bottle of his favourite Japanese gin.

monty09 · 03/12/2022 18:36

Got my DP a PS5 game, Some Dragonball Trainers, Star Wars T/shirt,some tickets to see Paul Smith and some Star Wars Lego.

C1N1C · 03/12/2022 18:50

Set up a shared wish list on Amazon... he'll add what he wants to it, and that will include passive 'meh, maybe one day', all the way through to 'now now now!!!' pressies. Just pick and choose from there.

On mine I have casual comics, chocolates and drill bits, all the way up to bench planers and other power tools.

There may be guys out there that like socks etc (seems to be the go-to), but to me as a guy, they wreak of can't be arsed... the same way picture frames, candles and assorted soaps are used for women. Apologies to those women out there, my mum had a colleague who without fail would cycle these three presents and it's burned into my memory!

If he works away from home, maybe personalised calendars with kids pics?

Or if you're strapped for cash, coupons... including get out of argument free (my favourite one BY FAR), or that thing he constantly bugs you for in the bedroom (trust me, this one will be greatly appreciated)... of course it goes both ways... him getting up to a crying baby at 2am, massage, cleaning... I don't know, whatever takes your fancy.

DemBonesDemBones · 03/12/2022 18:53

I got him a cordless drill, a hat with a torch built in a magnetic wrist thing for tools and...boxers with a million identical pictures of me all over them Grin

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 03/12/2022 19:00

A counter top ice machine for his office, so fucking rock 😂

pursuedbyablackdog · 03/12/2022 19:36

Car battery!

PhantomErik · 03/12/2022 19:39

We usually do a main present, that we've chosen ourselves & a fun thing that's a surprise.

Main:
A vape thing (he's not a big clouds type but it's helped him stop smoking)

Fun surprise:
Tin Can Alley as he wanted one as a child but wasn't allowed 😁

Miniature tool box to go in his personalised cracker.

Previous successful surprises have been a remote control fork lift truck, an axe throwing set (kids one, velcro axes) & a rally driving experience.

Main things he's enjoyed have been a kindle, coffee machine & a cast iron pan (!)

He would be heartbroken to receive socks/clothes!

musicandpassion · 03/12/2022 19:41

DPs birthday is in December so I've got a collection of things that I'll split between the two, including...

3 sets of Lego (two Star Wars, one guardians of the galaxy)
A pack of Vanilla Coke (the full fat version that isn't available in the UK because he doesn't like the Vanilla Coke zero)
A back scratcher
A pack of avengers playing cards

He said not to buy him anything so I think that's enough between Christmas and birthday!

eosmum · 03/12/2022 19:48

old style razor with blades. Really stuck for something else.

demotedreally · 03/12/2022 19:54

The whole family are generally critical of his "at home attire" - tracksuits and scruffy t-shirts, so I am going to buy him some dadmin t-shirts and am wondering about some trousers, if anyone has any good recommendations of something to wear for DIY/cleaning/chilling/fetching kids from playdates etc?

Marmiteontoastyum · 03/12/2022 21:16

@Bluelightbaby I understand how you feel exactly. Hitting the year mark was the worst part of our four year TTC journey. It eventually took us IVF to conceive our second child. Don’t be afraid to go down that route if you need too. Your time will come sweetheart 💐

There are some excellent suggestions here. So many ideas I will need to run past DH!!!

Ice bought DH lots of Star Wars lego which he loves but is it mean that I don’t want anymore ‘artworks’ on the bookshelf 😂 Theres no space for pretty candles and photo frames as it’s all lego 😆
