Fed up with the football on TV!

Just checked the TV schedule to see that Emmerdale and Corrie aren’t airing tonight because of the World Cup! I was looking forward to a nice relaxing night on the sofa watching the soaps now I can’t even do that.

Don’t ITV have a sports channel? Maybe I’m dreaming but I’m certain they do? Why can’t they just put the football on it!

You mean you don't want to watch Strictly on the BBC??

Winterfellismyhome · 02/12/2022 18:35

The soaps have been on every week night for about 20 years

Hate strictly.

I’m glad to have something on at this time of night that isn’t soaps or magazine shows tbh.

Why don’t you watch something new on iPlayer or similar instead?

Floralnomad · 02/12/2022 18:38

Makes a nice change for those of us that don’t like soaps , like we always get told there are lots of other channels or you could switch off .

IntentionalError · 02/12/2022 18:41

Now you know how non-football fans feel for the 3 years 11 months between World Cups when we are faced with a constant diet of boring soaps, crappy game shows and vacuous ‘reality’ TV bilge.

FrownedUpon · 02/12/2022 18:43

It’s the World Cup FGS! It’s only on every four years. People just moan about anything these days.

Amen!

It will be even worse from tomorrow, now they can go to extra time and penalties

EncroachingLoaf · 02/12/2022 18:45

Soaps are on TV all the bloody time. I'm sure you'll live.

user1471453601 · 02/12/2022 18:46

The world cup happens once every four years. I'm boycotting it (various reasons and no desire to discuss those reasons) although I love a good game of football. I'm quite content to watch other channels when a game is played. All I have to do is check the itv schedule on line, then go looking for other programmes elsewhere that I may enjoy.

it's really not a big deal

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 02/12/2022 18:46

I love being able to watch football on mainstream for once rather than having to pay

barskits · 02/12/2022 18:47

It has been on both BBC1 and BBC2 all afternoon. Both fucking channels. Now it is on ITV all evening. FFS. Enough already. Angry

For crying out loud, it is only some men playing with their balls. More to the point, there are a lot of people who are boycotting the World Cup due to where it is being held, including this household.

GreenWheat · 02/12/2022 18:48

More people want to watch the World Cup than want to watch the soaps. That's why it's on the most mainstream channels. Irrespective of your preferences, that is the national preference.

asblindasabat · 02/12/2022 18:50

I wouldn’t mind watching a football match in person but watching it on TV is so boring for me.

move it to a sports channel, that way sports fans can still watch it and soap watchers can still watch the soaps!

I love the World Cup and always watch as many matches as possible. Love that I don’t have to pay to stream it. Hate that it’s in Qatar and wanted to boycott it but I’m weak. Also nobody at FIFA would know I had.

Outfor150 · 02/12/2022 18:52

It’s the World Cup. It’s good that it’s on free to air, normal TV, not a paid sports channel.

Except those sorts fans that can't afford the sports channels. I don't watch the soaps because they're mind numbing crap so it's a relief for me to have the football on!

Spenn · 02/12/2022 18:55

It's amazing 🤩 add snooker on atm and the world darts championship around the corner, tv is at its best ❤️

Sport's the only time I ever watch anything on ITV

This afternoon's matches and last nights were anything but boring.

Sports channels cost money so that's exclusive to those who can't afford it.

What about those of us that don't like soaps or sports? When is our turn to hog mainstream TV?

LlynTegid · 02/12/2022 18:58

My mum would agree with you OP, though does not watch soaps.

This.
Love the darts!

Lauren1983 · 02/12/2022 19:15

The football on the BBC was on today from 2.30 to 5.15 so only a small amount of the schedule. It is far more annoying when Wimbledon is on as that really does go on all day.

Bluevelvetsofa · 02/12/2022 19:17

I don’t watch soaps either, but it’s annoying when things are moved around so much, particularly when there is, as there was earlier in the week, six hours on BBC1 and three hours on BBC2. Of course the World Cup is every four years, but there’s also European competitions, the domestic matches and I’m sure there’s more, so I think there’s plenty of football on TV.

One person’s mind numbing crap is another person’s fantastic entertainment.
