FRIENDS - Monica and Richard ❤️

Watching this, for the millionth time. Because it's great. Obviously. I'm on series 3 and Monica and Richard have just broken up... and it bloody well guts me everytime. He is the PERFECT man. Someone of his character is literally the only one who could pull me out of single life. Strong, stable, funny and genuine. Just a lovely man.

Yes he knew her as a child but I don't think he "watched her grow up" or was very familiar with her, same as I don't really know some of my friends kids. He didn't even recognise her when they met up years later but saw her for what she was - a 26 year old woman.

He was much better for her than man baby Chandler. Richard was an equal partner, she didn't have to "tutor" him. Shame they wanted different things in the end.

Oh and also she was absolutely stunning in series 2, best she ever looked.

I know, I know and the answer is no - I have nothing better to do right now! So thought I'd start a thread on my favourite TV show 😃

I'm team Richard too, and Chandler should have married Janice who's my favourite Friends character by a mile.

I found him to be such a boring character. There's nothing to him. He's not funny or interesting.

And yes, this too. He’s stodgy and wooden and dull.

I’m just watching the one where he comes into her kitchen at the restaurant and tells her he still loves her after seeing her out for dinner with Chandler. I’m conflicted!! Don’t mind the age thing so much as him being her dad’s bestie. I do think he suited her though.

I was Monica’s age when I watched it, I could never understand why she was with such an old, dull man. I can see why a 38 year old fancies him. I still wouldn’t.

I love the episode that was on earlier, where Richard knows she should go be with chandler and have her kids. The original storyline was ick but sort of redeems itself a bit

I don't know, I don't think mom and dad would mind. Remember when you were 9 and Richard was 30, how dad used to say, "God I hope they get together."

I also far preferred Rachel with Joey. They had great chemistry and had lots of fun. Better than stuffy old jealous Ross

Noooo! Take that back! 🙈 Joey was like her overexcited little brother she NEVER would have gone there, I think the producers probably regretted it afterwards. I do love Friends but he became so slow and unintelligent by the end of it, it honestly bordered on a learning disability.

I liked Richard but I don't think the show missed him.

Controversial but I don't like Monica with Chandler either - she turns into a hyper shrew and him a bit of a wet weekend. He was a much better character before that coupling.

It was creepy even then, mainly because of the link with her dad, but the answerphone message from Monica to Richard in the Nobody's Ready episode was perfection. "Breezy".
That episode was one of the best. God, I used to love Friends.

Kiss her knee, surely. That's quite an important word to omit. I thought he was boring tbh think she was better matched with chandler. God imagine the long winter nights watching civil War documentaries with cigar smoke getting right in your face.

Richard was just meh.

I liked Monica and Chandler together in the early seasons when they were both totally different people and were genuinely very good friends. Chandler was cute, charming and boyish and Monica was really cool and beautiful. When they got together they became so blah and irritating. Monica was really shrill and a bit of a caricature of herself, and Chandler became really blah and wet.

Unpopular opinion but I think Monica and Joey would have made a great couple.
