The holy beige buffet

This was the decided outcome of our girls Christmas night in this year! I’m hosting, so far I’ve added sausage rolls, tempura prawns, mozzarella sticks, some pizzas, gyoza, bao buns.
There are only 4 of us, plus my 2 dc will be here somewhere and also need feeding - what would you like at a standard shit buffet? I’m working all day so will only really get home an hour or 2 before everyone arrives so nothing that needs any preparation- it’s all got to be shoved in an oven.

All the supermarkets will have party ranges to suit buffets, see what looks good and buy a few packs.

BeastOfBODMAS · 30/11/2022 09:41

I’d want some fancy ketchup, mayo, chilli sauce, or those creamy supermarket dips that come in a 4 pack and all end up mixed together
Curly fries
Garlic bread
Crisps in odd festive flavours
cocktail sausages or pigs in blankets

Id serve bloody Mary’s with a lavish garnish to give the illusion of salad without the bother of eating it

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/11/2022 09:45

Cocktail sausages in some sort of sticky glaze and a pot of sticks to pick them up with. Served warm.

Cheese and pineapple/cocktail onions on sticks?

Sounds lovely, hope you have a great time!

Whitney168 · 30/11/2022 09:46

Cheese & pineapple and cheese & silverskin onion hedgehog is a must!

rickandmorts · 30/11/2022 09:48

Coleslaw and some salady bits to break up the grease. I love beige shit but do need something else on the plate too to make it interesting. Some olives or nice sun blush tomatoes too?

Always4Brenner · 30/11/2022 09:48

Sounds loveIy only do this at Christmas and love it.

FuckabethFuckor · 30/11/2022 09:48

Chicken goujons or breaded fish bites

Scotch eggs maybe

BertieBotts · 30/11/2022 09:49

Hula hoops so you can put them on your fingers

Chicken and/or fish goujons with a honey and mustard sauce

Cocktail sausahes on sticks. Maybe these, they are amazing: www.nigella.com/recipes/cocktail-sausages

BertieBotts · 30/11/2022 09:50

Mini pork pies! Maybe with egg inside

Cream cakes for pudding

suzyscat · 30/11/2022 09:53

Jalapeño poppers, battered pickles, mini kievs

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2022 09:57

Oh yes definitely dips, good reminder! Hula hoops are an excellent crisp, I also have a couple of the big tubs of twiglets and mini cheddars but will also go for some plain dipping crisps.
definitely some olives and other ‘fresh’ things, I too love a beige buffet but do appreciate things that aren’t greasy 😂
sticky cocktail sausages and garlic bread also excellent suggestions. I have pickled onions, could throw together some kind of cheeseboard, I’ll be working near the neals yard cheese shop on the day so could get a good selection.

Jalapeño poppers - YES!

Chips and dips, need a bit of sauce with all that dry food. Maybe some spring rolls. I’m sure M&S party food is always cooked at the same temperature so it’s easy to chuck everything in the oven together

sunshinefollowsrain · 30/11/2022 09:58

Breaded mushrooms and garlic mayonnaise 😊

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2022 09:58

Tbf dh will be coming back later that night from a funeral, probably slightly worse for wear and in need of some shit food to soak it up so whatever we don’t eat won’t go to waste.

OP posts:
TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2022 10:00

Oh spring rolls! With sweet chilli dip 😋
we do have an impressive selection of sauces and condiments but have ordered some other dips. My shopping is done on ocado - lots of the supermarket Christmas party food now apparently all cook at the same temp however my haphazard way of cooking would mean it did anyway regardless of the cooking instructions 😂

I like creamy mash and sweetcorn with most beige buffet foods.

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2022 10:06

Really? Mash and sweetcorn?! That’s a new one on me, never seen this on a buffet table before!

Onion rings
Potato wedges
Poppadoms
Scampi bites

Yes to this!

IHeartGeneHunt · 30/11/2022 10:16

Profiteroles!
A box of crackers (the one with the Hovis loaf shaped biscuit) and a couple of pate

ScrambledOrPoached · 30/11/2022 10:22

Baguette and real butter, pate.

bread sticks and dip.

cheesecake

cheap ham sandwiches like at kids parties. Bloody love those but never buy white bread or shit ham.

chicken nuggets, the breaded cheap shit ones

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 30/11/2022 10:25

Bao buns are too fancy for a beige buffet, get thee some vol au vonts and pigs in blankets instead

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2022 10:32

Onion rings 🥳

Cheese and pineapple hedgehog!

I often do hummus and dips - carrots, peppers, etc. Can be prepared the day before and clingfilmed. Also chicken satays/skewers in a variety of flavours - Iceland are usually good for these.

Many supermarkets now do their party food so it all goes in at the same temperature for similar amounts of time. The only restriction is your oven space.

If time is tight, don't go for the fancy M&S party platters that look lovely, but require you to spend time drizzling gravy or horseradish over a mini yorkshire pud.
