The holy beige buffet

This was the decided outcome of our girls Christmas night in this year! I’m hosting, so far I’ve added sausage rolls, tempura prawns, mozzarella sticks, some pizzas, gyoza, bao buns.
There are only 4 of us, plus my 2 dc will be here somewhere and also need feeding - what would you like at a standard shit buffet? I’m working all day so will only really get home an hour or 2 before everyone arrives so nothing that needs any preparation- it’s all got to be shoved in an oven.

Cheese & pineapple and cheese & silverskin onion hedgehog is a must!

Yes!! Sod everything else on a buffet and bring out the hedgehog! Nothing else matters ( except maybe a few vol au vents and a trifle) I love a good traditional buffet 🤩

Whiskyvodka · 30/11/2022 11:59

I like black kalamata olives, Aldi sometimes do a jar and their's are really good.

SteveHarringtonsChestHair · 30/11/2022 11:59

Gyozas and bao buns on your beige buffet? Is this a stealth boast? Grin

AppleWax · 30/11/2022 12:15

Definitely a hedgehog - either cheese, pineapple, sausage and silverskin onions (in a variety of combinations on the stick) or go posh and use olives, chorizo, cornichons and a really nice cheese!

tulips27 · 30/11/2022 12:16

@RinklyRomaine 's trifle suggestion is perfect! And no prep required.

newnamenewmane · 30/11/2022 12:18

Cheese straws!

TheChosenTwo · 30/11/2022 12:21

Arghhh no trifle due to it being minging, soz 😂
haha the bao buns and gyoza are not a stealth boast, they got hastily shoved into the online trolley as I was doing a supermarket sweep style checkout this morning - I’ve no idea what’s now actually in the trolley - I will have to have a proper look this evening as I’m sure from feeding the 5 of us adults plus the 2dc I actually have enough food to feed the 5,000! Even accounting for dh if he comes home drunk and peckish 😂
the buns and gyoza may not make the final cull!

Battenburg, had it at a funeral a couple of years ago and it was fabulous.

Crabwoman · 30/11/2022 12:39

You really need icelands mini fish and chip cones.

Figmentofimagination · 30/11/2022 12:51

Look at the party food at Aldi/Morrisons/M&S. Thinks like garlic bread Christmas tree at Aldi or the beef sliders at Morrisons.

We do this for our Christmas Eve meal. Previous years we've had lots of things including mini hot dogs, potato waffles, sliders, mini pies, Chinese selection, spring rolls, mini pizzas, bruschetta with cheese and chorizo and salad, curly fries, bao buns, lamb gyozas and lots of different dips.

Figmentofimagination · 30/11/2022 12:52

Oh, and don't forget Pringles!!

Sassy306 · 30/11/2022 13:10

Aldi have got some mini chicken or steak bakes in freezer section which are actually quite good. Iceland do these tempura fish goujons that come in salt and vinegar flavour and a few other flavours and they are fab too ☺️

AtleastitsnotMonday · 30/11/2022 13:25

If you are ordering from Ocado you need the mini pulled ham, rarebit crumpets and the mini chicken tikka naan.

Deathraystare · 30/11/2022 15:39

Cheese & pineapple and cheese & silverskin onion hedgehog is a must!

Bring it on! And the mushroom vol au vents!

Deathraystare · 30/11/2022 15:52

@sunshinefollowsrain ·

Breaded mushrooms and garlic mayonnaise

Oooh yes! but not onion rings as they have a bad effect on me!

MintyGreenDreams · 30/11/2022 16:14

Egg mayo finger sandwiches

RinklyRomaine · 30/11/2022 16:15

Trifle is a thing of wonder, but I'll admit it's not everyone's thing! How about a nice beige arctic roll?!

NoNamesLeft234678 · 03/12/2022 13:06

We've got:

Mini vegetable samosas

Mini vegetable spring rolls

Chicken corn dogs

Southern fried chicken bites

Cocktail sausages

Onion bhajis

Mini fish and chip cones

A Mini dessert selection

I've also got some mushroom aranchini for me and dp has terriyaki salmon skewers, salt and pepper prawns and Mini lamb koftas.

I still want to get some satay chicken skewers, Mini sausage rolls, pickled onions, nice cold meats - ham, turkey, beef ect. and some nice bread. I also want to get some kind of cheese and meat platter/some stuff to make one with.

forageintheforest · 03/12/2022 16:19

If. you want a holy buffet then you need some wafers, wine and some holy water would help. Bloody Mary also a good choice. (just couldn't resist.)
