I’m always the first to give myself a hard time about the many things I consider myself rubbish at so I thought it’d be nice for a change to point out a couple of things I’m really good at.

I’m a great cook and IMHO I’m really stylish too 😊

So what are you good at (but probably never point out to anyone IRL 😉

Lovely post for those of us who are really hard on ourselves. Im a good friend Smile

Cherryana · 27/11/2022 08:06

I am a dreamer and a do-er, which means when I set my mind to something it happens - even seemingly impossible things. Lots of people I meet are only one or the other.

Hillrunning · 27/11/2022 08:09

I am far far smarter than I appear. And I appear above average. But in side my head there are thoughts, connections and insights that would surprise some people I know. I just don't show it.

I also lost 3 stone this year.

Slowdayinfleetstreetisit · 27/11/2022 08:10

You all sound amazing 😊

I am good at persevering through hard times and reaching out to solve problems (advocating for myself eg pursued therapy and anti anxiety meds. Which by the nature of the issues is hard to make yourself do), and find jobs - most of my jobs have been from optimistic emails asking for a job. Same with finding friends - just tenaciously quietly friendly to all until I find my people.

I am a really amazing singer.

I think I’m doing a really good job at being a mum.

Notlivinglife · 27/11/2022 08:13

SorryOP what is IMHO?

Notlivinglife · 27/11/2022 08:13

SorryOP what is IMHO?

In my humble/honest opinion

GlassBear · 27/11/2022 08:17

What a lovely thread!

I’m really excellent at remembering the little things that get forgotten, and planning fun things which everyone enjoys. I’m a good mum and I know I’m funny, I like to make people laugh.

I’m having counselling for my anxiety, I’ve had it all my life but it’s got worse recently and I’m proud of myself for getting help.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 27/11/2022 08:19

I just got a job I applied for in a competitive field and for the first time I feel I can confidently say that I'm really good at what I do Smile

Blip · 27/11/2022 08:22

I'm a warm and friendly person and I have a lovely smile.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 27/11/2022 08:24

I made an awesome birthday cake for my son this weekend!
I am good at my job which makes a real difference to people - I work in cancer research.
I am never late.

can’t make gravy for toffee though!

Yayasisterhood · 27/11/2022 08:26

I’m very strategic. I can see the big picture easily and have a clear sense of direction.

Slowdayinfleetstreetisit · 27/11/2022 10:10

Ha, I’m never late either, even though I’m really rubbish at organising myself

I taught myself how to bake and decorated cakes, 5 years on I have a really successful business with 10 staff, and I did that!

Seiheiki · 27/11/2022 10:13

I built up my business from scratch, in a new area 120 miles from where I lived, whilst leaving an abusive relationship

Ilikecakes · 27/11/2022 10:19

I’ve been SAHM for the bones of 10 years, professional confidence through the floor. Youngest started school recently, so I thought I might bumble along doing any sort of job that would fit around the kids, but instead I’ve secured an incredible role, in my industry, at a salary I could only have dreamed of before. Took lots of gentle pushing from my amazing DH to not only apply for the role, but then to go back and negotiate better salary and WFH terms, so I’m really proud of myself as it’s going to change our family finances. Can’t shout about it in real life as I’d sound like a total dick, but lovely to do it here so thank you for this thread. 😀

Seymour5 · 27/11/2022 10:27

I’m good at listening and supporting. I’m also good at not interfering in my adult DCs’ life.

Seymour5 · 27/11/2022 10:28

@Ilikecakes well done!

GaslitlikeaVictorianparlour · 27/11/2022 10:36

This is really nice.
Women never do this in real life, certainly its heavily frowned upon in my circles.
Its really good to read how well you are all doing.
Here's mine:

I came out of a horribly mentally abusive long term relationship with an addict a couple of years ago, I was absolutely shredded in all areas of my life.
Since then I've started counselling, I've lost weight, my confidence has soared and I feel attractive for the first time in years, I've got savings and I've sorted the DC out financially for their future. I went for a promotion at work and got it. It was really hard but it turns out I'm much tougher, cleverer and resourceful than I thought I could ever be. I'd never say this in real life but I rock 😁

flingingmelon · 27/11/2022 10:38

What a lovely thread!

When I speak in meetings people take notice.

A lot of me thinks that this is because I am Botox free and therefore look old and wise.

But actually it might be that I'm good at my job Grin

Didisquat · 27/11/2022 10:40

I have got rid of the horrible anxiety I have had for the last 15 years this year, it’s almost completely gone and I’ve done more things in the last 3 months than I have the last 15 years. Nobody knew I had it as kept it hidden from everyone but was so scared all the time, so I can’t tell anyone how I have smashed it 😂

Robin233 · 27/11/2022 10:43

@Didisquat
Can you a least point me in the right direction?

What a lovely thread. Great to hear all these trumpets being blown.
I'm getting quite good at wildlife photography and even had a photo published in The Times and Guardian recently.
I'm also getting better tracking and identifying wildlife.
I'm no where near brilliant but I can see improvement and that makes me happy.

There is no magic cure I am afraid, it’s just going out and doing all the scary things until they aren’t scary anymore, I had a square mile safe zone that I rarely left and if it did it was horrid, then I got a new job that involved a lot of travel that I had no choice but to do, it was scary the first few times but nothing bad ever happened and then my brain kinda just clicked.
the Dare app and book really helped and dr weekes books, but I think facing the fear until it fades is the only way really
