Not seen one of these for a while so thought it would be fun to start one.

I just randomly looked up the krypton factor & Gordon burns and learned that he and Ed sheeran are 2nd cousins!

What did you learn recently that surprised or even shocked you?

Discoh · 26/11/2022 21:37

Well I didn't learn it recently but when I went to uni up north was very surprised to see Gordon burns reading the local news!

Sprouttreesareamazing · 26/11/2022 21:44

I just learned my hoodlum ddog can reach the second from the top shelf in my pantry..
And that she likes uncooked porridge..
And that a laminate floor covered in uncooked porridge looks like a reindeer buffet...

Ylvamoon · 26/11/2022 21:49

I learned today that Yorkshire Pudding Wraps are a thing! I mean a classic roast wrapped up and eaten as street food. WTF???
Disclaimer: I don't like Yorkshire Pudding

Graphista · 26/11/2022 21:54

@Discoh was he a good newsreader ?

@Sprouttreesareamazing oh no! How annoying all sorted now?

@Ylvamoon I love yorkshires but surely that's not a yorkie but a savoury pancake?

@Graphista Nope, It definitely looked like a Yorkshire Pudding ...
Sheffield Christmas Market, that's where you can find a little hut with Yorkshire Pudding Wrapps amongst other things.

All my (adult) dc LOVE these.

ds has even mentioned investigating if he could have them for his wedding Wink

TIL that peanuts are not actually nuts.

Definitely a Yorkshire pudding. I had the displeasure of queueing for 40 mins for one last week. It tasted rank, had nicer and tasier in York.

I've just (like this week!) Realised that Gareth Bale and Christian Bale aren't the same person 🙈. I don't particularly like football or Batman. That's my excuse. DH looks both disgusted and confused when I confessed!.

That its duct tape, not duck tape. Why would ducks need taping up anyway?

bikinilinemisery · 26/11/2022 22:14

That Jason Donovan's dad played Doug Willis in neighbours!

It's both. Duck Tape is a brand of duct tape.

Mandatorymongoose · 26/11/2022 22:21

Toby Carvery do a Yorkshire pudding wrap. It's ridiculously big and just full of meat (other places do them with basically a whole roast dinner inside)it is good though!

Justleaveitblankthen · 26/11/2022 22:37

Yes, Gordon Burns was the newsreader on BBC northwest evening news before he started on The Krypton Factor. He continued until 2011

I remember those episodes (I'm old) but not watched any soaps in many years now

That the little clock app icon on your smart phone is actually a functioning clock.

Sorry but I gotta ask how long did that one take you?

Took me way too long to learn (I think via a similar mn thread) about the calculator app goes to Sci calc when rotated to landscape orientation

Duck is a brand of duct tape. To advertise that it's as waterproof as a duck's back... fuck🦆

@Ylvamoon i had one yesterday! They are nice but not worth all the fuss on TikTok!

absoluteshower · 26/11/2022 23:00

@Graphista Found out this week 🙃

Showmethebagels · 26/11/2022 23:06

Only found out today that a chalice is a goblet not a dagger! (thanks spelling bee!). Poisoned chalice makes so much more sense now! 😳

GimmeBiscuits · 26/11/2022 23:20

showme, I learned about the chalice from watching "The court Jester", an old film featuring Danny Kaye in which there is much switching of vessels, one of them containing poison. He has to recite a whole spiel about them.

I only found this out when there was a thread about it on MN a few weeks ago.

I told all my family, and their minds were all blown too.

On the other thread, nobody else knew this.

It seems to be one of the best kept secrets.

Deathraystare · 27/11/2022 07:52

@Ylvamoon

Yes, those wraps been around for a while. Can see the appeal as I love yorkies though don't et meat and I don't like normal wraps.

They were selling them at the Ideal Home Exhibition when I went on Thursday but I had no money and it was all meat I think.

'The pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace holds the brew that is true.'

Don't know why I remember that so clearly.
