Is there anyone who hasn’t started Christmas shopping for presents?

All good wishes to to you both @romany4

I buy stocking fillers as and when I see them throughout the year but generally start buying from around August, as it's too expensive to buy everything in just one month.

Turkey crown, beef joint , pickles, freezeable buffet food and nibbles have already been bought so December is a calmer month for us and we have a stress free run up to the Big Day .

Memories of running around like a headless chicken in the week before Christmas, when I was in my twenties and thirties, make me shudder ... as do the memories of being skint until January payday.

greaterscott · 24/11/2022 17:26

Me. I don't start until December but then I don't have many to buy for so it's not a big job.

I've sometimes pondered about the three Kings as they trekked across the desert following a star and one of them pipes up...

Melchior : What have you got him then?
Casper : Frankincense.
Melchior : What's that then?
Casper : Some sort of resin.
Casper to Balthazar: What are you giving him?
Balthazar: Myrrh.
Melchior and Casper :WTF that???
Balthazar: Resin, the bloke in the market says it smells nice.
Melchior : Does it?
Balthazar: Not really.
Casper and Balthazar: What you got then?
Melchoir : Gold, I've got him some gold.
Casper : GOLD? You b*astard, we're going to look like right cheapskates with our resin.
Balthazar: Swap you my myrr for your gold.
Melchior : Not likely, this could be my big chance. Son of Gold and all that.
Casper and Balthazar: Well let us go in first then.
Melchior : I'll think about it.

...and so they trudge on, in silence, following the star.

Very good 😂

I've only started this week. I've very disorganised this year!

Filleto · 24/11/2022 17:51

I kind of envy everyone who can be so laid back about it. I’d be in a serious flap if I hadn’t started yet. Ideally I like all the presents bought and food either bought or ordered by the end of November so I can stop the constant “still need to buy xyz” running through my head and actually relax a bit!

LBOCS2 · 24/11/2022 18:01

I've bought two or three but mostly not started. It's DD1's birthday at the end of Nov so I find it very difficult to think about Christmas before then!

maddy68 · 24/11/2022 12:08

I never start until December

Ditto

Thank you.
He's still here. That's the main thing!

CaronPoivre · 24/11/2022 18:09

I've started with a few stocking presents but nothing more. We tend to do a weekend before Christmas frantic dash but might need to be more organised this year with so many shops being online only.

DMCWelshcakes · 24/11/2022 18:09

No. And I can't be arsed.

Normally I love Christmas but last year's was difficult and I just don't have the time or the energy for this year's. I'll have to get my shit together though for the DC.

HumourReplacementTherapy · 24/11/2022 19:00

Me! Apart from, funnily enough one for a fellow Mumsnetter Smile
I have also just shoved some stuff in a virtual M&S basket in case it gets discounted 2mo

AliasGrape · 24/11/2022 19:21

DD is more or less sorted - she’s 2 and doesn’t need much! I didn’t actually buy/ organise the bits she does have to be fair, DH seems to have some kind of personality transplant and thought what to get her and bought it ages ago. I will do her a little stocking too though which I need to sort.

I have 8 nephews and nieces, DH and an aunt to buy for too, plus one friend’s DD. No idea where to start this year.

DH can sort his side out (literally his parents and one nephew who lives abroad so tends to just be cash transferred to the parents).

Best friend we’ve agreed to go away for a night in Jan instead. Everyone else - siblings, other friends etc we’ve agreed on no presents.

AliasGrape · 24/11/2022 19:24

Oh also we’re hosting this year and I’ve not done a thing about that either.

BusySittingDown · 24/11/2022 19:29

Me! We're moving house soon and DH doesn't want to have to move them.

I don't want to leave it till then because I'll be unpacking the house then having to shop and wrap all at once. AND put decorations up!!! 😱

katseyes7 · 24/11/2022 19:33

Me. I don't 'do' Christmas presents now, l haven't for a few years.
Couldn't afford it then and l've carried I do birthdays instead, they seem more personal and at least they're spread out through the year.
A couple of my friends still send me things for Christmas (even though l asked them not to, as l couldn't reciprocate), they say they don't like the idea of me having nothing on Christmas morning. I make that up (I hope) - they get better birthday presents than l could afford otherwise, though.
I'm usually on my own at Christmas (have been for years, besides work and seeing someone for an hour or so on the day) but this year l've been invited to go to my best friend's. We only recently got back in touch after 'losing' each other a long time ago, and I'm really looking forward to it.
We've agreed to only token presents (£10 limit) and a donation to a good cause of our choice. We're both in our sixties now, and we don't 'need' anything.
And it's her birthday in January, I'd rather get her something really nice for that.
I do miss wrapping presents, though. I used to really go to town with that.

CookPassBabtridge · 24/11/2022 19:33

God no, I never start until mid dec.

Stressybetty · 24/11/2022 19:49

Yup, usually don't start until after DS birthday in Dec. Only got a few to get. Will need to sort MIL gifts to DH brother's family this year as well.

BayCityTrollers · 24/11/2022 20:05

I’ve only bought 2 pringles crackers. We only buy for our dses though, no wider family and it will just be some treats and money or gifts. I will send money to my niece and nephews but that’s easy.

Think DS1 wants a new phone and DS2 a laptop so need to wait for them to return from university. Easy but expensive!

DH and I don’t bother for each other.

tillytoodles1 · 24/11/2022 20:11

My kids are adults so they and their partners get a bottle of spirits or good champagne, plus foreign money for wherever they're going on holiday next year.
My 13 year old granddaughter gets some bits chosen by her mum that I pay for and money.

Lulu1919 · 24/11/2022 20:17

My husband !!

Yika · 24/11/2022 20:20

I never start properly thinking about Christmas until December, though I have jotted down some ideas and bought a present for the family dog. So far nothing for any humans. I’m actually still enjoying late autumn - the woods are still full of beautiful colours and it’s only recently got cold!

Oblomov22 · 24/11/2022 20:41

No. I hardly buy any. Dh and I only get each other something small, just so that we've got a present to open. If there was anything I actually wanted, I would've bought it already. Ds's ask for clothes or one gift. Eg years ago they shared an x box.
we have a huge family party the week before, and we only give each other cards, with money in the cards for the little cousins. (So our boys get lots of cards with money in which they love).
All so easy. No stress.

comfortablyfrumpy · 24/11/2022 20:52

Me.
It's November.
Still plenty of time 😁

BuryingAcorns · 24/11/2022 21:25

Me. I've bought one thing. Quite easy this year as we are having a quiet family Christmas and DC are grown so stockings will be a simple affair. But still need to get moving even just to order deliveries to wider family and work out what to get DH.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/11/2022 21:31

I have a policy of no Xmas purchases before Dec 1st
