Is there anyone who hasn’t started Christmas shopping for presents?

OP posts:
Growlybear83 · 24/11/2022 14:31

It's only November - Christmas is still a month away! Apart from booking my supermarket delivery slot, which I only do because I wouldn't get one otherwise, I don't start thinking about Christmas until at least the middle of December.

OldTinHat · 24/11/2022 14:49

Teehee - done, wrapped and delivered!

I have absolutely no money so start buying in January and wrap as I go along with a spreadsheet to keep track of what I've bought. I can't afford to buy last minute and I also have to factor in travelling to family to deliver as I live some hours away from them.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 24/11/2022 14:53

I haven't.. luckily adults in my family have decided not to bother so I have one niece to buy for plus DD and DH. I'll help DH sort something nice for his Sister as we have similar tastes but other than that DH sorts his side out. No food to worry about this year as we're off to the in-laws for Xmas as we hosted last year.

Yep. If I knew what to get them I would look earlier to keep an eye out for bargains. I have no clue this year though so will be left much later. Not many to buy for though.

bloodywhitecat · 24/11/2022 15:05

Me. My little one has only been with me for four weeks (foster carer) and has complex disabilities so I wanted to get to know them before I even started thinking about what to buy them.

Mentalpiece · 24/11/2022 15:40

Me. I just give money to the kids and grandkids. They are the only ones I give gifts to.
So I just go to the ATM when I'm out and about.

Notmysolution · 24/11/2022 15:41

Me.

Me!

DH has just had a stroke and is very unwell. Couldn't give a shit about Christmas right now and I'm normally organised and excited about Christmas

Sorry for your troubles, I hope your husband is on the mend soon.

I haven’t started.. which is a mistake but one I make every single bloody year. And every year I promise myself that this’ll be the year that I start early. I never do.

ChessieDarling · 24/11/2022 15:45

Oh that’s a lie actually. I picked up a little quad bike on Facebook marketplace for my one year old a couple of months ago.

I was in your position last year, sending you much love and wishing you both a peaceful Christmas.

Musicaltheatremum · 24/11/2022 15:51

I've done nothing except make my Christmas cake

hairyunicorn · 24/11/2022 15:54

I only have my our son to buy for, and traditionally we leave all shopping (food and gifts) until Xmas eve. ,makes for very interesting food options and large discounts and occasionally not getting the present he wanted.

romany4 · 24/11/2022 16:03

bloodywhitecat and ChessieDarling

Thank you for your kind words

WhatHaveIFound · 24/11/2022 16:12

No gift buying here as we're going on holiday over Christmas. Will be buying something for the family we're staying with though, I just haven't figured out what yet!

Notanotherone6 · 24/11/2022 16:15

Often I wait too long but this year I'm on the ball. 5 kids, all but a couple of gifts bought, and all wrapped. Haven't started shopping for the adults though yet.

fussychica · 24/11/2022 16:20

We've agreed no presents this year. No children though. To be honest it's a relief.

I have one present to buy for a 23 December birthday which I'll have sent direct to them so minimal chance of getting caught up in planned postal strikes.

Did buy a Christmas pudding and a bottle of Sloe gin when I was shopping today but nothing else Christmassy.

TartanGirl1 · 24/11/2022 16:23

Yes and panic will be setting in soon!

TimBoothseyes · 24/11/2022 16:28

🙋

Toddlerteaplease · 24/11/2022 16:30

Yes because it's not even December!

gogohmm · 24/11/2022 16:31

Me, not December yet

Parker231 · 24/11/2022 16:33

We don’t buy physical presents - all adults and we give vouchers for experiences, days out, restaurants or DH and i for each other - a holiday. None of us need or want more stuff

LizzieSiddal · 24/11/2022 16:36

Me although I do have a list and know what I will be getting apart from about 3 presents, I am aiming to do some this weekend.

Beamur · 24/11/2022 16:37

My DH. He does all of his about a week before Christmas.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/11/2022 16:48

I've sometimes pondered about the three Kings as they trekked across the desert following a star and one of them pipes up...

Melchior : What have you got him then?
Casper : Frankincense.
Melchior : What's that then?
Casper : Some sort of resin.
Casper to Balthazar: What are you giving him?
Balthazar: Myrrh.
Melchior and Casper :WTF that???
Balthazar: Resin, the bloke in the market says it smells nice.
Melchior : Does it?
Balthazar: Not really.
Casper and Balthazar: What you got then?
Melchoir : Gold, I've got him some gold.
Casper : GOLD? You b*astard, we're going to look like right cheapskates with our resin.
Balthazar: Swap you my myrr for your gold.
Melchior : Not likely, this could be my big chance. Son of Gold and all that.
Casper and Balthazar: Well let us go in first then.
Melchior : I'll think about it.

...and so they trudge on, in silence, following the star.

TedMullins · 24/11/2022 16:54

Yep, I only have my partner to buy for. I don’t have siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, kids etc - they’re either dead or there’s no relationship, we’re not a close family (no big fall out, just geographically distant and not bothered!) My parents and I don’t do presents, they have no money so they couldn’t afford to get me anything even if they wanted to. I’m a Scrooge tbh. I largely ignore the existence of Christmas
