Where I get my eggs, the black market.

Is that a thing? I've struggled to find it for ages but just thought it was me being unable to find it, or some local issue. That would explain it though !

How do you thicken sauces without it !?

I bought some from 'a cheap shop' so Home Bargains, B&M, Pound Land, somewhere like that, I can't remember, about 2 days before everyone started panicking because you could no longer get it in Tesco.

But according to www.trolley.co.uk/search/?from=search&q=cornflour

You can still buy it in M&S, Aldi, Sainsbury's, Waitrose, Co-op and Morrisons as well as the aforementioned un-named discount shop, so unless you can only shop in Tesco and/or Asda for some reason, it's not an issue is it?

I think people use normal flour and make a roux.

We use it more for making things with crispy coatings, like squid or tofu, or sweet and sour sauce, which wouldn't work with wheat flour.

It's probably also useful to people who avoid wheat.

Tesco do stock it though - I just bought some. My box before that was M&S and it was disgracefully out of date because I rarely have need for it

Ive struggled to find it for years! I just thought it was going out of fashion or something.

Libmama · 23/11/2022 17:06

I got some from Sainsbury’s today

avocadoandchill · 23/11/2022 17:07

Back of the cupboard where it has been for far too many years

PaulRobinsonsSeventhWife · 23/11/2022 17:07

Waitrose still have it

Seeline · 23/11/2022 17:08

I use it a lot as DD is gluten free. Will be a real pain if it vanishes completely.

Threadkillacilla · 23/11/2022 17:08

Darknet, pm me 👀

Quisto · 23/11/2022 17:10

I saw some in B&M today. In Liskeard if that helps anyone.

notacooldad · 23/11/2022 17:11

I bought some on Lidl on Monday. I get through loads of it.

Soontobe60 · 23/11/2022 17:11

They sell it on Amazon if anyone’s struggling

glasshole · 23/11/2022 17:12

Lidl sells it, I use quite a lot of cornflour and never had a problem getting it from lidls baking section.

happysunr1se · 23/11/2022 17:13

I get mine from chinese supermarkets, cheaper and comes in bigger containers. You can also use potato starch to thicken sauces, although it creates a more jelly-like texture than cornflour.

CraigDavid · 23/11/2022 17:14

Aldi sells it

PeekAtYou · 23/11/2022 17:14

Aldi and Morrisons sell it

Takeitonthechin · 23/11/2022 17:15

Lidl had some last Friday, try there

Turquoisa80 · 23/11/2022 17:16

I bought cornflour from aldis this morning.. I use it loads to thicken curry's, make battered chips. I thought tesco was just not selling it in one particular store

bigfamilygrowingupfast · 23/11/2022 17:18

My local Aldi stopped selling it about 6 months ago (v annoying as we make a lot of homemade Chinese food) but they've recently restocked 🙌

senua · 23/11/2022 17:20

I stockpiled two boxes the other day, after that thread! Got them from Aldi.

MrsWooster · 23/11/2022 17:22

Baking Powder also seems to be a problem…. Admittedly only tried Ocado so far!

What about rice flour as an alternative? It's what I use to line bannetons when baking as the lack of gluten prevents the dough from sticking. A quick google suggests it can be an alternative for cornflour.

slowquickstep · 23/11/2022 17:26

My Fishmonger stocks it.
