Now that tesco and asda are not stocking it, where are we all getting it from, sainsburys'?

IHeartGeneHunt · 23/11/2022 17:31

B and M, Home Bargains.

nopenotplaying · 23/11/2022 17:37

Oh gosh now everyone will panic buy because they can't batter their squid or tofu!

KittyMcKitty · 23/11/2022 17:39

waitrose have it - I bought some this week.

saraclara · 23/11/2022 17:54

Not again. Excuse me, I'm about to shout.

TESCOS IS SELLING CORNFLOUR. IT'S JUST DISCONTINUED ITS OWN BRAND. IT STILL SELLS BROWN AND POULSON'S CORNFLOUR.

Thank you

Where I get my eggs, the black market.

I'm not completely up to date on these fast-moving things but shouldn't one be saying the 'market of colour' now? 🤔

CottonSock · 23/11/2022 18:04

Tesco has it here, but a branded one so it's £2.75

GrumpyPanda · 23/11/2022 18:05

dgirluk · 23/11/2022 16:57

Is that a thing? I've struggled to find it for ages but just thought it was me being unable to find it, or some local issue. That would explain it though !

How do you thicken sauces without it !?

I don't even have any at home! For thickening sauces - this is after braising or roasting, yes? - I simply use French-style beurre maniée or floured butter. That's normal flour and butter mixed 1:1. Some people make a larger quantity, it keeps up to two weeks in little balls, but I just mix it fresh every time, just crush the butter in the flour with a fork. Dissolves without clumping and you just add however much you need.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 23/11/2022 18:20

In the old days people used to use flour and water for wall-paper paste.
Ironically it's coming full circle where one may have to use wall-paper paste (with anti-mould feature) for thickening gravy and stews.
Funny old world, isn't it?

Where all the white powders comes from.

gawditswindy · 23/11/2022 20:08

I got it in Morrisons but had vaguely noticed that there doesn't seem to be so much of it. Coeliac here too so we use a lot of it.

saraclara · 24/11/2022 00:23

I was in a Chinese supermarket in Soho at the weekend. They sold it in bags the size of normal flour bags. They had shelves full.
So if you have a Chinese supermarket, head there.

Cornishclio · 24/11/2022 00:29

Tesco said they were withdrawing it due to low demand but have now changed their mind. Our zero waste shop stocks cornflour so that is where I am buying it. If not, Morrisons, Waitrose, Co op and even Amazon does it.

Reallycomplicatedpants · 24/11/2022 07:22

Bought some in lidl yesterday, I mostly use it for making viennese whirls, and bakewell blondies!

Blainesmaries · 26/11/2022 13:38

This was a jokey thread by the way....
It's made worse by people suddenly panic buying it, isn't it. it's a very rarely purchased product for most but suddenly it's out of stock everywhere (I have looked, clearly not everywhere).

It may be a jokey thread but it's not a joke for the coeliacs. DH could probably live without cornflour but he has to forego so much else already ...Sad

Summersdreaming · 26/11/2022 14:56

Lidl had plenty today.

Crankley · 26/11/2022 15:09

I've just checked websites for Tesco, Waitrose, Asda, Ocado, Morrisons, Sainsburys and ALL list cornflour.

NoSquirrels · 26/11/2022 15:12

Like others, Lidl is my dealer.

Blainesmaries · 30/11/2022 08:09

NoSquirrels · 26/11/2022 15:12

🤣Do they cut it together with less quality stuff?

Waitrose.

notacooldad · 30/11/2022 09:26

I bought a packet in Asda yesterday. I has to buy a jacket for work last Thursday and went to Tesco. Just went to usual shelf.

emmathedilemma · 30/11/2022 10:13

They had it in the sainsburys local store near my office yesterday!

whoruntheworldgirls · 30/11/2022 10:25

Sainsburys yesterday
