1 day in Liverpool - what to do?

Travelling to Liverpool next weekend to visit a Uni with DD. The Sunday will mostly be the longest train journey known to man & Uni visit.
On the Monday we have most of the day to get a feel for the city (never been before - DD wants to get an idea of what it’s like to live there)
what should we do? Areas to visit/avoid? The only thing we know is we don’t want to do a Beatles tour!
Things she likes are art galleries, independent/vintagey shops, record shops & nightlife!
I know it’s not long enough to get to know a place but she just wants to get a feel for it

A quick update & a big thank you to everyone who made suggestions on this thread.
Liverpool was a big hit with DD, Bold street cost me a fortune in vintage clothes & vinyl (for DD not me!), we managed to see most of the sights and the weather even took pity on us and it stayed dry.

Oh, you were lucky - I was glad of my umbrella on Saturday! Bold St cost me a fortune in vegan fry ups and delicious hot chocolate Hmm (🍃) though it’s not my usual Liverpool stomping ground. The Knowledge Quarter / Georgian Quarter were a welcome sight and Albert Dock wondrously cheerful and pre-Christmassy.

I’m not surprised your DD found the city appealing @nancy75 - it’s still quite magnificent.

Glad it went well. Didnt post as dont know Liverpool, but my son is in his year there and one of his friends is at LIPA in halls near the Cathedral. Both are enjoying themselves up there.

I was lurking on this thread as I visited over the weekend for the first time and absolutely loved the place and the surrounding area. I picked up some good tips so thanks everyone. Slightly envious of OP's daughter potentially getting to study there!

And one final thing, I kid you not, a teenager came up to us on Saturday morning, opened his carrier bag and asked if we wanted to buy some ladies perfume in the main shopping area. What were the chances?!

Also don't be surprised when people with carrier bags full of stolen make up or perfume approach you. That's just Liverpool 🤣

I've lived here over 30 years and that's never happened to me. I've never heard anyone else talk about it, either.

Funnily enough a man with a carrier bag did ask me if I wanted to buy any perfume! I very nearly laughed at him because I instantly though if this thread
