I think they're looking for a younger cast to keep the franchise going so Kristin Scott Thomas could be Elizabeth and I picture Lesley Manville as Joyce.
I'm not sure about the men.

Penelope Wilton absolutely perfect for Joyce. Not sure re the others. Like the idea of Vinny Jones but he's younger than I'd imagine Ron. in contrast I think of Maggie Smith and Judi Dench as quite a bit older than the characters I picture in my head.
