This is one of my favourite middle of the night stop myself worrying tasks. I agree with Penelope Wilton or Lesley Manville for Joyce and Art Malik is my Ibrahim of choice. I like the idea of Alexei Sayle as Ron, feisty and political. I always struggle to cast Bogdan for some reason. For Donna I imagine Freema Agyeman.

I hope they get Ron right as he is my favorite character!

How can it have a younger cast if it takes place in a retirement home @Butteredtoast55? The whole point is they are well into their 70s!
But then again wouldn't be surprised if they move it to a gated community in Florida.

Alison Steadman for Joyce. Ray Winstone for Ron. Helen Mirren for Elizabeth (but Judith Kepple is a great shout, I picture her too!). I can’t decide on Ibrahim, I love Art Malik as an actor but he’s Pakistani, so the backstory would have to change.

Ron is tall and thin : wiry !! The tattoos are very faded.
Our school caretaker would be perfect ( if he was an actor !)

hadn't hough of Penelope Wilton as Joyce until I saw people suggest it here and she would be great - I always pictured Lesley Manville but she is probably too young...
