How do you eat your dinner? Anything you MUST have? A specific order..?

Strange title. Hear me out!
So I normally have a bit of everything on my fork (ie chicken, avocado and some rice) so I can experience the flavours together.
My friend eats her meat first, then will finish the rest slowly.
Another friend always has hot sauce. He takes it with him everywhere so no matter what he is eating he always has hot sauce.
My cousin doesn't like any wet food and eats everything separately (rice first, meat then the veg)

Do you have any specific eating ways?

I like to have a bit of everything on my fork too. My husband thinks I am strange.
I have known his cousin much longer than I have known him and I remember us going out to ear and I thought it was bizarre she ate all her peas, then all her potato then her meat, or whatever order it was.
I had never realised people could eat meals that way! 🤣

A bit of everything on the fork plus but if there’s something on the plate I really like I’ll have a couple of forkfuls of that on its own also.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 17/11/2022 19:55

I eat a bit of everything together on the fork but I do always save the best for last, so I make sure the last forkful left on the plate has all the best bits of everything. Sometimes I will save an entire item til last if it’s particularly good, eg the crispiest roast potato, or the crispiest rasher of bacon.

Veg, potatoes then meat, if bolognaise or curry all mixed together. If there's Yorkshire pudding that's before the potatoes. Not sure why it's just how I've always done it.

Fladdermus · 17/11/2022 19:59

I'm like you, like to mix the flavours. DH decontructs his food then eats it in order of preference from least liked to best bits. So if I make a stew he'll pick out all the bits of meat and put them on the side of his plate to save for last. It drives me nuts.

Swissnotswiss · 17/11/2022 20:02

My ds18 eats everything in order from least favourite to favourite e.g.all salad, all potatoes, finally meat. Seems weird to me but he's always done it.

Yes, this! I'll save a roastie or a nice bit of stuffing, for example, as a reward for getting through the veg. 😅

daffodilandtulip · 17/11/2022 20:04

All of one thing,in order from least favourite to favourite... eg main, veg, then roasties

And I have to have a drink because I'm terrified I will choke without one 🤷‍♀️

Mañanarama · 17/11/2022 20:04

I like gravy, but I cannot have it touching certain foods, particularly mash or peas. Bleurgh.

scrivette · 17/11/2022 20:07

I eat everything in order saving the best to last and won't have a bite of potatoes then a bite of sausage, each item is eaten individually.

peppaandherbloodymuddlepuddles · 17/11/2022 20:26

Love these! I also have a friend who cuts all the meat of the bone and then pushes the bone to the side of the plate before she starts and she does it so carefully lol

*off of the bone. Sorry

@Fladdermus I can imagine I'd get annoyed at that too lol

Eat a little bit of everything together. Food must always have loads of white pepper sprinkled on.

Duchese · 17/11/2022 20:30

I eat green chilly with all my food.

WeWereInParis · 17/11/2022 20:30

Depends on the sort of meal. Anything with rice or pasta I mix it all in together. But something like a roast dinner, I tend to eat the elements separately.

00100001 · 17/11/2022 20:32

Growing up it used to be meat, veg then potatoes as mum and dad insisted we did it that way so we didn't waste the "good stuff' by being too full and leaving the meat etc. We were poor and dad often went without the meat so us kids could have it instead, so they made us wat it in that order.

I changed growing up and eat it in any/random order. But no set rules. Will sometimes eat bits individually, sometimes a few things in fork in the same meal. Just depends really.

Zampa · 17/11/2022 20:34

How do you enjoy the individual elements of a meal if it's all mixed together. You may as well blend it and drink soup!

(Caveat - I get restaurant style food mixes different, complementary textures and flavours but I'm talking about bog standard dinners).

AlisonDonut · 17/11/2022 20:46

I like all the flavours on one fork apart from, I like to leave 2-3 roast potatoes to just have with gravy at the end if there is enough gravy left.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 17/11/2022 20:53

Everything in individual order. I have a bit of everything to see which I like the most then eat it in order from least favourite first and best part last. Even a stew I'll eat individual things out of it saving the meat (and dumplings if I have them) till last

Hereandgoneagain · 17/11/2022 20:54

How different we all are. Personally, I can’t have two food items on the same fork. E.g. I can have a bite of meat and then a bite of roast potato but NEVER both on the same fork.
I also keep a mini pepper grinder in my handbag.

How do you cope with things like pasta bake? Or shepherds pie etc?

FrightfullyFreezy · 17/11/2022 20:58

Well today I put my chips on the fork along with a bit of my fried egg. I use the fork tines up though and in my right hand so I've got it wrong and there's no point in taking my opinion seriously. ;)

Rainallnight · 17/11/2022 21:02

I absolutely must have a drink with my dinner. I don’t understand people who can eat something with no drink. It makes the inside of my mouth crumple up just thinking about it.

AdInfinitum12 · 17/11/2022 21:08

I'm a mixer. Everything gets chopped up and mixed together. I could eat all my dinners in a bowl haha.

And I have to have a drink. I can drink a pint of water with dinner quite happily. I can't understand people who don't need a drink while eating.
