Why are men so dramatic when they have a cold?

Chloefairydust · 11/11/2022 13:28

This is the third day of my partner being bedridden with the common cold… I just don’t get why men are like this though. I mean it’s crap having a cold , I know, but when I come down with one I just kind of take day nurse and get on with things.🤷🏼‍♀️

Because its not a common cold it's man flu. One of the most dangerous diseases you could make up in your imagination 🙃😉🙄

Chloefairydust · 11/11/2022 13:42

just Been up to check how he is, and he’s told me he feels like he’s ‘dying’ … Is man flu really that bad? 😮

Because ultimately, most of them expect to be 'taken care of' by someone else !

I simply won't do it for a minor illness like a cold ! (I'll offer medication and extra cuppa's, but that's about it)

Something more 'debilitating/serious' ? Of course I'll 'take care' of my H by going to the chemist/cooking/cuppa's/hot bath etc, but I expect the same 'treatment' from him if I'm the one who is unwell too !!

My theory is because they don’t have periods.

Women get used to feeling a bit shit for a few days every month and having to get on with it. For men not feeling 100% is a bit of a rarity, hence the drama.

Chloefairydust · 11/11/2022 13:50

OMG he’s had me making him drinks, rubbing his feet, doing all cooking, yesterday he agreed to a shower but then I had to help him get clean pjs on as he felt dizzy 🤦‍♀️

First day I didn’t mind but now I’m wondering how long he’s going to be like this for 🙄

Tbf, mine isn't. He is CV, we worried about him getting Covid and then he catches it and is barely ill! Ditto colds etc, barely ill, won't rest, wont go to the doctor. Whereas DD and I are ridiculous, a week in bed with covid, I'm still feeling a cold that I caught weeks ago, I may be prone to the odd bit of whinging too.

Chloefairydust · 11/11/2022 13:51

Also he keeps wiping snot on the duvet which is really starting to annoy me, he’s acting like a child ffs 🤨

oobeedoobee · 11/11/2022 14:04

Jeeze OP, wiping snot on the duvet is repulsive ! You wouldn't expect anyone over the age of 5 to even consider doing that !

And massaging his fucking feet ? For a cold ?

Fuck right off ! He's taking the piss BIG time !!

RoseAndGeranium · 11/11/2022 14:05

Mine hardly ever gets colds and when he does he almost always soldiers on, to be fair. I’m the one that goes down hard every time — chest infections, asthma, the works. Maybe your DH just has a lousy immune system (like me!).

LadyOfTheFliessssss · 11/11/2022 14:12

An ex of mine loved being ill, so much so that he would often convince himself he had some ridiculous ailment. Especially if it was something I had. He even managed to convince himself once he had one of my autoimmune diseases!

For him, his justification was that it was the only time he could lie around in bed without feeling guilty.

He did have a very high pressure private education and he's now a KC so it's partly understandable. However, it was incredibly grating!

And, typically, he'd begrudge lifting a finger to help me if I was ill! Lost count of the number of times I just had to get on with it when I was feeling wretched.

Thankfully he has a nice new girlfriend now and it's no longer my problem!

That is absolutely vile. Let me guess - you do all the cooking and cleaning?

I'm sorry I had to laugh there. Aren't they pathetic creatures? 😂

That is absolutely disgusting. Stop doing stuff for him. Do you get to lay in bed for days when you're unwell? I doubt it.

AriettyHomily · 11/11/2022 14:22

Could he actually have flu?

If not, how pathetic. And rubbing his feet?! What does he do for you when you're ill?

PopcornChewingGum · 11/11/2022 14:33

Covid ?

PinkSyCo · 11/11/2022 14:33

Why are you massaging his feet for him and laughing about him wiping his snot on the duvet. You’re not his slave and the fact that he can’t even be bothered to use a tissue is so disgusting and disrespectful. 🤢

gamerchick · 11/11/2022 14:35

Stop bloody pandering to the daft twat and read him the riot act for being utterly disgusting.

Tell him to get his arse out of bed and change the bedding. Rubbing his feet indeed Hmm you know you're partly to blame for enabling this shit aren't you?

sarahc336 · 11/11/2022 14:35

Eugh men, my other half refuses to take any form of medication for a cold so he continues to huff and puff around the house complaining whereas I'll take a lemsip and just get on with it. I do feel as women we have to get on with it whereas men don't have the same sense of "still have to sort the kids, sort the house, the tea " etc x

youlightupmyday · 11/11/2022 14:48

I had a tummy tuck recently and my surgeon said he refuses to do men as they are too whinge too much and don't just crack on like women.

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/11/2022 14:50

My DH isn't too bad but his sneezes are so dramatic. The other day he sneezed and I dropped a jar of jam on the floor with fright. He had to clean it up.

You've chose a weak partner. Some men are built differently

No I don’t think it’s flu, he doesn’t have a temperature… Just the usual head cold symptoms… Although if you ask him he’s dying 🙄

Just ran him a bath and while he’s in there just changed the snotty bed sheets 🤢 …

He rarely gets sick to be fair, but when he does, God do I know about it. When I have a cold I just dose myself up on night/day nurse and carry on, if I’m really sick with flu/ stomach bug then I’m still pretty independent, I don’t like any fuss and just like to be left alone.

Just wondering how long he’s going to be this way for, I hope it’s not all week, it’s exhausting running around after him 🙃

Oh that drives me mad when people refuse painkillers! If you ask me, if you won't take paracetamol, you're choosing to have a headache. So I don't want to hear any griping about it! No sympathy.

WorrieaboutFIL · 12/11/2022 21:28

He sounds vile tbh

saraclara · 12/11/2022 21:42

I was the one who whinged when ill. My late DH just wouldn't give into colds and viruses and powered through even though he loooked like death. So I'm going to utter the ever-popular 'not all men'.
