Do you believe there is life outside of planet earth?

It's a given there's something more boring like fish or whatever, on another planet far away. That seems to just be common sense (says the woman who knows nothing about science!)

But do you believe there's intelligent life form?

My mind is blown tonight as I sit in the bath and wonder 'how can it be that there was nothing and then something. Surely something must come from something but how did that very first atom or whatever come to be?'

Yes I fully believe in life outside of earth.
Assuming the universe is infinite, to think we're the only planet with intelligent life would just be ignorant.
I would love to see what other beings would look/live/act like.

vodkaredbullgirl · 09/11/2022 23:15

Loads of rubbish out there.

saysenato · 09/11/2022 23:16

@SouperNoodle so interesting isn't it? I doubt they'd have technology though, or would be unlikely to

Purely because did the domino effect. So everything someone did lead to something else and it had to be that specific mind that thought of it and so on

Nope.
Amoeba maybe but not much else!

Loads of rubbish out there.

Grin probably a few of my Asda bags for life that I keep losing

I believe there must be, it seems so unlikely given how many unexplored planets just in our galaxy there are, and how many other galaxies exist that earth alone has intelligent life.

eyeproblemsInasd · 09/11/2022 23:17

I think there definitely is

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 09/11/2022 23:18

Perhaps not at this exact time but the universe is billions of years old, we can't fathom these time scales. The conditions for life are so specific and they need to remain stable for millions of years. It's so unlikely

saysenato · 09/11/2022 23:19

For those of you who do believe, and think the universe is infinite, do you think there would be another plant like us? Do you think we could mate with them? Share any DNA fragments?

In my head I see another planet similar to this but the people sort of look a bit human but have developed piles or something to live in water

Ineedwinenow · 09/11/2022 23:19

I believe astrobiologists have found microbes or some kind of bacteria on other planets so yes there’s definitely other life out there Grin

ComtesseDeSpair · 09/11/2022 23:19

I do. This article, however, always leaves my mind blown apart: waitbutwhy.com/2014/05/fermi-paradox.html

Thelnebriati · 09/11/2022 23:19

I think statistically there's a good chance, but its unlikely we'll ever know because of the time and distances involved.

saysenato · 09/11/2022 23:20

Developed gills, not piles!

OP posts:
Boomboom22 · 09/11/2022 23:20

Yes but probably not at the same time as us.

BobbyBobbyBobby · 09/11/2022 23:20

An alien on a reconnaissance mission made a visit to our planet and had a good look around and was so disgusted by us all that he wrote on his report - No intelligent life found.

They haven’t bothered to come back.

I think there are probably many different planets with intelligent life. Some advanced some very primitive but with potential to evolve , some engineered elsewhere and introduced to other systems . There are so many possibilities

1dayatatime · 09/11/2022 23:24

Most likely some some cell organisms out there somewhere. Very very unlikely that there are multi cell complex creatures such as life on earth and even if there were I would not bet that alien life form interaction with earth would be friendly, more like dinner time or resource time.

SofiaSoFar · 09/11/2022 23:24

Yes, I believe there has to be other life out there.

If the universe is infinite - and if it's not, what's outside it? - then there simply has to be other life. In fact, there has to be another one of you out there somewhere.

Fascinating, isn't it.

meowzeer · 09/11/2022 23:27

Yes definitely and they have visited earth. Watch the documentaries on Netflix. Unexplained and ufo mystery. Too much evidence there to suggest it was anything else. Jealous of the face they have technology to travel much faster than us so they can reach our planet. Its fascinating.

Duchess379 · 09/11/2022 23:29

Absolutely we're a tiny spec of dust in an infinite universe. We can't be the only beings...

Nineteen60s · 09/11/2022 23:29

I don’t see why not. It’s a bit conceited of us to think we are the only intelligent life form, ever.
Whoever/whatever is out there probably isn’t at the same stage as us, but some will have been and gone, and some still developing into something like us way into the future.
I also like to fantasise that maybe we are being ‘observed’ by some life form way more advanced than us, and they are amusing themselves by seeing how we develop……

PurpleWisteria1 · 09/11/2022 23:30

So many possibilities all of them blow my mind. Fermi paradox is insane. Why haven’t we come across anyone else?

  1. No intelligent life. Ok but why? Must be conditions favourable for life out there. What happens to civilisations after a certain point? What is the great filter and have we passed it or are we yet to hit it?
  2. Life is out there and has found us, but is watching and waiting. If life has found us, they are way wayyyy more advanced than us. Similar to us looking at an ant. We can’t possibly understand what they know. Different plane altogether.
  3. Lift is out there but it just hasn’t found us yet.
wait but why is absolutely excellent - a mind blowing read. So many interesting articles if you are interested in this stuff.
saysenato · 09/11/2022 23:33

People are saying there might be intelligent life but they're a different time to us for now, what do you mean?

Surely if it's 2022 in Spain, planet earth, it's still 2022 in planet Peeley, just as likewise it's still 459000 in planet earth to them etc? We are all experiencing 'the now' at the same time surely?

OP posts:
saysenato · 09/11/2022 23:35

This is why I can't get away from the belief there's a God. Because everything has to come from something and the only answer to me seems to be that thing is benevolent and I just can't get my head around it because I'm a simple human

OP posts:
bloodyeverlastinghell · 09/11/2022 23:35

I think so. They may not look like us but I'm sure there is intelligent life out there somewhere. It seems very conceited to think we are the only ones in the universe. I feel like there should be a word for it. If geocentrism was the belief that the sun rotated around the earth then what would you call the belief that Earth is home to the only intelligent life forms in the universe?
