And do you know of any other chat forums that have the same feature?

Good thing. I name change frequently.

BeLikeElsa · 09/11/2022 20:29

It’s one of the reasons I favour MN over other fora.

AutumnCrow · 09/11/2022 20:30

Good thing.

It is good, too many national news sites scrape MN for stories plus other websites compile lists of usernames on MN when the don't agree with things they post.

I like name changing for the anonymity of it all.

StrangerOnline · 09/11/2022 20:32

Good thing, safest way to stay hard to recognise IRL

MarshaMelrose · 09/11/2022 20:33

Good.

Renter77 · 09/11/2022 20:33

Yep - good thing!

JenniferBarkley · 09/11/2022 20:34

Good thing. Otherwise genuine users would just use throwaway email addresses to name change. This way you can just change your username and MNHQ can verify you're a genuine user.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 09/11/2022 20:35

Good. See also: Twitter.

Ekátn · 09/11/2022 20:35

Good thing. My exh still stalks me on social media. Years after I met him. MNers actually supported me a lot during the time I was leaving.

Without it I wouldn’t have been able to keep posting

AuntieDickhead · 09/11/2022 20:35

It's a good thing and one of the reasons I use MN over other sites.

KitchiHuritAngeni · 09/11/2022 20:35

Its great.

I probably post under about 10 different names for various subjects.

Easier to stay anonymous that way, and MNHQ can always check for sockpuppets or previous posting history anyway.

HeelsOnFire · 09/11/2022 20:35

Good thing. I like my anonymity and wouldn’t post if I couldn’t name change frequently.

WhiskyTangoFoxtrot · 09/11/2022 20:36

It's a good thing.

It means you can easily break up your profile a bit.

And can post more privately about things like your haemerrhoids (or other stuff you find embarrassing) in a different name to the one you think your SIL might have identified. But still have that one for when you're being lovely and helpful on all things inocuous

Athenen0ctua · 09/11/2022 20:37

Good thing. There are people who look up past posts and try to use them to catch people out, when details could have been changed for privacy so posts may not be consistent. Name changing helps you to stay anonymous and protects you from annoying troll hunters.

frozengoose · 09/11/2022 20:37

I like it.
It means I can post more and more genuinely about some issues than I otherwise would.

FrippEnos · 09/11/2022 20:39

Both

Good:- when used as it should be as it allows privacy and security.

Bad:- when used by those that continually change names because they like to wind up posters and generally be twats, then name change to start again.

Sparklingbrook · 09/11/2022 20:39

Both good and bad.

Good that genuine posters can N/C for all the right reasons. Bad that it makes MN attractive to trolls and bitchplopping is easier.

Bluerisotto · 09/11/2022 20:41

It's an excellent thing and this thread has reminded me to change mine again!

FiveShelties · 09/11/2022 20:44

Good and bad. I think the bad are winning at the moment with all the troll threads.

It feels difficult to believe anything at the moment, which is really sad.

GoodnightGentleBoris · 09/11/2022 20:44

Great thing. I have about 10 usernames.

Maybe I’m the only poster on this whole thread!

Firesideassembly · 09/11/2022 20:46

It’s a very good thing in general I think! I change names frequently.

RhubarbFairy · 09/11/2022 20:47

No, I'M the only poster on this thread!

I agree with it being a good thing. I have several and I change them depending on what I'm posting about.

Oblomov22 · 09/11/2022 20:48

What do you consider bad about it?

Oblomov22 · 09/11/2022 20:49

I never ever name change and haven't during the whole time I've been here. But I can see the appeal for many.
