And do you know of any other chat forums that have the same feature?

It's not just a good but an essential thing for a forum with this level of reach.

MyMilkshakeScaresAllTheBoys · 10/11/2022 21:28

This reminded me I haven't changed in a year. Trying this name out now!

Yellowdahlia12 · 10/11/2022 21:33

I name change a lot, as I know members of my family are on here and I wouldn't want them reading all my posts.

@Sparklingbrook

Neither do I, and I don't NC as I have no need to. I think the forum has got too big for anyone to think they'll be recognised or have any status on here. Maybe a few years ago that may have been the case, but it's every man for himself now.

But all it takes is a search of someone's user name to find all their posts - I've seen it in actual threads where someone searches a user's past posts to check up on them/have a go at them etc. Whether they are recognisable is irrelevant when the search facility is there.

Yes I know. I’ve had it done to me. I don’t know what you’re getting at, I just meant that people that don’t NC aren’t always looking to be famous or known on here. They just don’t feel the need to.

mayyyy · 11/11/2022 14:02

If you become too famous then you might find yourself being followed, harassed or discussed by other places. Better to keep a low profile and name change frequently for anonymity.

birdie33 · 11/11/2022 14:05

Pros and cons. I like it because it allows you to remain anonymous. I've posted loads of stuff over the years that could be very outing if someone bothered to look back at it all. NC regularly makes it much harder to recognise someone. I NC weekly for this reason. Must have had hundreds.

However it does lend itself well to trolling and generally twattery. People know they can say what they want then just NC and no repercussions.

FatToFitPart3 · 11/11/2022 14:13

A good thing. I have family members and friends on here, and I don’t want them linking something I write that they know about to more private, personal posts or replies I make.

I think that's the main downside to it.

ChickinBell · 11/11/2022 18:56

I like it , especially after someone hacked the site , I NC regularly, it's the best way

Sparklingbrook · 11/11/2022 18:58

I can't believe the hacking was 6 years ago now, that was a weird time. MN went off for a few days.

ChickinBell · 11/11/2022 19:00

Bloody hell was it really @Sparklingbrook 😳
