On your news website, is it really necessary for US politics to be the biggest news story and taking up almost the entirety of the main home page?

Is there nothing going on anywhere else in the entire world?

Does anyone else think we really don't need this much information about elections going on in a foreign country? Or does anybody find US politics really interesting?

OP posts:

You do know that the BBC haven’t broadcast news in a very long while? It’s all woke, lefty propaganda and lies.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 09/11/2022 19:13

But the thing is, how the election goes in US do have effects on whole world, so, it's quite different from any other countries.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/11/2022 19:14

It’s a huge news story.

bluejelly · 09/11/2022 19:16

Makes a change from the UK political car crashes...

SouthOfFrance · 09/11/2022 19:17

What news story from today do you think deserves more coverage?

CredibilityProblem · 09/11/2022 19:17

Strongly disagree. With COP 27 going on at the moment the leadership of the US is a big deal for all of us, and the midterms affect what Biden can and can't do. It's only one day's cover.

Yes there are probably other world political events which should get equal focus, but the US political environment affects us all.

VikingVolva · 09/11/2022 19:19

The right-leaning think the BBC is lefty/woke, the left-leaning think it's tory stooges. So as an equal opportunities giver of offence, it's probably doing ok

The website is horribly dumbed down though.

And I agree - the US elections is an important foreign affairs story, maybe worth a couple of stories and a background piece. But not the level of coverage it has right now

AnApparitionQuipped · 09/11/2022 19:20

I find it quite interesting. I think it's an important enough event to justify the level of coverage, considering the currently competing news events.

TulipCat · 09/11/2022 19:21

It's a major global news story. What goes on in US politics affects the world, you are being rather inward looking in my opinion. You can easily find plenty of other news content on the BBC website if you want other stories though.

What is woke lefty propaganda?
i doubt you can give an example of a BBC news article or story thats fits your right wing narrative and when one bbc news reader dared to even laugh at a Tory, she was taken off air.

Anyone who doesn't realise or care that a republican representative house will block ALL of Biden's plans including increasing weapons to Ukraine, is a idiot.

What is happening in the US now will have a huge impact on Europe, inc the UK

MAGA means Isolation America.

To answer your question Nurses strike confirmed......which I fully support

countrygirl99 · 09/11/2022 19:23

OP have you never heard the saying "when America sneezes the world catches a cold"?

AnApparitionQuipped · 09/11/2022 19:25

user1471427614 · 09/11/2022 19:23

But the election is subject to more regular change and update than the nurses' strike.

user1471427614 · 09/11/2022 19:27

Agreeded but they asked what other story do we think is important

Igotjelly · 09/11/2022 19:29

What’s going on in American politics is massively consequential for the entire World, particularly in relation to positioning on Russia and China and the ability to pass aid packages for Ukraine.

Istheworldreallydonefor · 09/11/2022 19:32

@BobbyBobbyBobby

dear me get a life.

and if you think all left stuff you must be so right wing you voted for a nutter like Farage!

Istheworldreallydonefor · 09/11/2022 19:32

@EndlessMagpies

it is critical sorry about the safety of the planet And human rights.

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 09/11/2022 19:33

I agree there was a lot of UK news I would have much rathered they were covering on their main page and TV channels, instead I had to click around the website to find anything relevant to the country that pays for them to exist. If they want to sniff up the bum of American news all the time they need to change their funding model so I'm not sponsoring it.

But the BBC isn’t there to just bring UK news. What happens in America at the moment is far more consequential for the World, and the UK, thank most things happening in the UK so should be the headline. The UK news is still there just further down the page.

hesbeingabitofadick · 09/11/2022 19:44

It far more interesting than all the London-centric shite we "oop north" put up with.

And rather more important to.

Exactly. The American elections are massively important - it's quite right that they are huge news in the UK.

Seconded!

MsLucyEyelesbarrow · 09/11/2022 20:05

I think its vital that we get a good view of world news, and don't just stick with a parochial stream of stories about the UK.

Completely agree

And think that this needs to be the top story in world news. And a story on the front page.

But .... Have you actually seen that it's six stories and a live updates section on the front page? That's rather too much

LemonLymanDotCom · 09/11/2022 20:24

Yup, am totally interested in the midterms. Not only is US politics fascinating, but as many OPs have said, what happens in the US impacts on us all.
