Where can I get socks that won't wear through in a month or two?

Any recommendations?

I generally buy a multipack in the supermarket, say 5 pairs for £7. But in recent years, they've been wearing through on the ball of the foot or heel, sometimes in a matte of weeks.
Where do I need to go for better quality/longer lasting?

I find bamboo socks quite long lasting. I buy from the gents section at tk max as blokes stuff always seems to last better. I think it was 5 pairs for 12 quid or so. Plain black as I loathe sock pairing.

I don’t really wear socks but DH has lots from m and an and never had them wear though. Bamboo are good.

Men’s socks all the way. My feet are only a size 5 but I find that after a few washes the men’s are the right size. Women’s socks, only one size, by the time they’ve been through a few washes, are stretched so thin, they wear out in no time.

M and S are best for socks I find, but buy mens as for some reason they are better and come up higher so keep you warmer.

Readingtheworld · 06/11/2022 20:31

I wear boys socks these days for that exact reason and because I don’t want pink cats on my ankles. My feet are a 6.

ItWasntMyFault · 06/11/2022 20:32

Accessorize ones are really good.

ContadoraExplorer · 06/11/2022 20:33

I've got these ankle ones from H&M that seem to last forever: www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1102712001.html

And for trainer socks, I have some Nike ones that are over six years old that are only now starting to go a bit threadbare. I recently bought some M&S ones with a bit of rib in the middle but the jury is out on them. They stay put well but not sure how long they are going to last.

TomTraubertsBlues · 06/11/2022 20:33

I buy Thought socks. Pricy, but they last.

Arnaquer · 06/11/2022 20:37

Bam socks last really well

LizzieSiddal · 06/11/2022 20:40

M & S do great socks. I buy ladies and find them long lasting.

longfishbagel · 06/11/2022 20:41

M&S, they last for ages. I bought some thermal ones two or three years ago and they are still going strong. I went through my bamboo socks in a matter of days so wouldn't buy them again.

RainBow725 · 06/11/2022 20:44

I also buy M&S mens. They are longer up the leg so better with boots and last a long time.

LimeCheesecake · 06/11/2022 20:46

If you are wearing through them consistently, are you wearing the right size? If you are wearing socks a little too small, you will be pulling them all the time and putting stresses on the areas that are getting the most stress (like the heels and balls of feet).

buy bamboo ones, but go up a size if you are towards the top of a size range.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 06/11/2022 20:52

I had this dilemma a few months ago. Currently on BAM socks. Liking them so far. Let's see how long they last! Supermarket, Next and M&S last less than 6 months for me.

hellololabells2019 · 06/11/2022 21:14

I recently got some from Benetton. Far superior to my previous socks.

Persephonegoddess · 06/11/2022 21:19

Fat face socks are fab

whatisforteamum · 06/11/2022 21:21

Next.
Primark get holes too quickly.

carefulcalculator · 06/11/2022 21:27

I wear sports socks, usually either Asics or Adidas, and find them good. I buy grey or black.

I agree. I’ve had mine for ages.

If you want very warm, as well as hard wearing, Nordic socks really keep my feet warm.

BergamotMouse · 06/11/2022 21:33

Another vote for thought socks. Mine must be over a year old. Some probably 3 years and look new.

NuffSaidSam · 06/11/2022 21:34

Sockshop socks are good ime

asblindasabat · 06/11/2022 21:35

following this as I’m also having the same issue

Singleandproud · 06/11/2022 21:37

As Pp have said check you are wearing the correct size, if you are a 7 or 8 size up to mens socks, and then check the inside of your most worn shoes to see if there are any rough patches. I mostly wear supermarket socks and have never had that issue.

ThreeblackCats · 06/11/2022 21:38

Happy. sock company do the best ever socks!
I bought three pairs at Covent Garden over a year ago and they are still as thick as the day I bought them.

HippeePrincess · 06/11/2022 21:41

I have some socks that are 10-15 years old, all in regular frequent wear, some have been thrown away but most are going strong. They’re nearly all cheap, think supermarket, primark, new look… I don’t know if it’s just that I have quite a lot of pairs but I’ve never had a problem of wearing out socks regularly. I’ve been on a sock buying ban and I’m pretty sure I’ve not bought any for a year or so, still hardly thrown any out.

Are you wearing the same 5 pairs only, or do you have more socks than that? Do you walk around on hard floor in just socks?
