Anyone bought a grown up advent calendar this year?

Chloefairydust · 05/11/2022 13:55

Was thinking about getting an advent calendar for myself this year as a treat for myself for Christmas, and probably another one for my partner too (so suitable for a man).

Theres loads on the market, beauty/ skincare ones, drink ones, I even saw one in George the other day with Christmas pants in, 😂…

Im a little overwhelmed with the amount of grown up advent calendars out there, so wonder if anyone has any recommendations?

Im looking for something that’s good value for money, as in I don’t want to spend more than the products are actually worth to buy separate. Also please warn me of any that you know of which are completely crap and that I should avoid.

I've got one with miniature jams in (different ones).
My daughter (19) has one with mini bath bombs and soaps in.

There are so many to choose from.

Chloefairydust · 05/11/2022 14:13

Ooh I bet my mum would like a jam one, maybe I should treat her to one too 😁

A lot depends on what you are interested in and what products you use. I read an article the other day that Marks and Spencer Calander is meant to be good value for money.

My DD wants the Bodyshop one. I've had Yankee Candles previously, which I liked. I wanted a nice perfume miniatures calender for myself but can't really find one I like (deliberately avoiding looking at the Dior one!)

PumpkinSpiceLatay · 05/11/2022 14:18

I haven’t but Superdrug have started their Black Friday sale and there are some like Revolution and Real Techniques very cheap, even cheaper with a beauty card.

thelma57 · 05/11/2022 14:19

I get the Yankee candle one every year, and if you wait until after the 1st December you’ll be about 25% off at least! 🕯

BlackaddersCodpiece · 05/11/2022 14:20

I bought DH a whiskey one a few years back that he really enjoyed. They do a few different price point ones.

If your looking at perfume ones definitely avoid the Chanel one, just seen a you tube review on it and I can’t believe the crap that they put into their advent calendar (mostly stickers 😱🤨) …

Do you get decent sized candles in it?

And yes I don’t mind waiting till 1st December for a discount 😁

Cartilage Cartel if you like earrings…

Have a look on Etsy, there are loads of different types of advent calendars on there. Granted they could end up being expensive though as handmade

thelma57 · 05/11/2022 14:26

@Chloefairydust the one I get is a tea light every day which I like cos it’s like one a day for advent and then you get a votive on Christmas Eve, you can get bigger ones though which are all
votives! Oh and you always get a little holder too!

Ilikewinter · 05/11/2022 14:34

Ive got a skincare one for a brand that I use, it gives me the opportunity to try out products that I wouldnt just buy ...... obviously im a sucker for marketing!

Ooh love this idea, looks like you get a lot for your money and I do desperately need new earrings so maybe this is the winner for me 😁

Just need to find something for the BF now …🤔

The M&S beauty one is always amazing - and great value.

Other good ones are Pukka tea, Pringles, Tiptree jam, cheese, Body Shop - there are so many!

Chloefairydust · 05/11/2022 15:45

The M&S one does look good, looks like they have a deal on its it’s £40 if you spend £30… Otherwise it’s £300 (would normally be way out of my budget)

hmm it’s either that or the earrings… 🤔

I have not. If I wanted lots of random tat I would just go and choose it from the shop.

Oblomov22 · 05/11/2022 15:48

I normally go for the Aldi wine one. I might try the gin one this year.

Lulanna · 05/11/2022 15:48

Don’t encourage me! … I already have too many love honey toys haha… It’s getting to the point where when we are expecting visitors in the house I have to run around hiding them all 🤣

I’ve not had one in the past but I’ve ordered the Degusta box one that looks huge.

AdaColeman · 05/11/2022 16:43

I usually get the Pukka herbal tea advent calendar, it has some unusual flavour combinations, plus nice little notes about the different herbs used. It's not silly money, the packaging is nicely done, and we all need hot drinks in December.

I’ve got the Liberty beauty one, my bloke’s got a cheese one and we’re sharing a Hotel Chocolat truffles one. We’ve lost our Christmas mojo for the last few years and it’s come back with a vengeance!

Chloefairydust · 05/11/2022 18:03

Hmm I might get my partner a cheese one 🤔 …

Lovelydovey · 05/11/2022 18:15

I’ve had beauty ones in the past, along with cheese and jam.

I’ve bought myself a spice calendar this year and I’m eyeing up a niederegger marzipan calendar too. Might have to treat myself….
