Anyone want to bet what time the AA will show up?

Took the afternoon off work to make sure I got to a specific training camp on time for this evening. Car has other ideas. I think the battery is flat but I'm not certain.

I called the AA at 2pm. They said they'd be there at 3.05. This became 5.30, then 3.30, then 4, then 6, then half 5 again, then 6.30, and now 7pm.

My weekend is fucked regardless now as I have missed the start of the camp (you can't join halfway through). And if I don't laugh about it I'll cry. This is the icing on the cake for this week! If they'd have come at 3.05 when they said they would I could have made it maybe. So anyone want to place their bets? The odds are probably best around 2am which would be the most disruptive, of course.

Ooh it's now changed to 6.50...

I had a flat battery (well, actually, a completely dead battery that the mechanic said should have been replaced 5 years ago) at a motorway service station a couple of months ago. The AA said it could be up to 4½ h but they turned up after about 55 min. It wasn't a Friday, though.

Coldcoldhesrts · 04/11/2022 17:41

6:35!

I admire your optimism!

Yes I'm hoping it's "just" flat and not dead.

Quite how it got flat is a mystery to me, since the car is used regularly and over good distances / speed. And it had a new battery only a couple of years ago.

Could you become PG between now and 7pm? One of the few times I've ever needed them I was pg and they arrived within about 10 minutes.

Alas, the boyfriend is not here at the moment.

Why do you have to miss the whole weekend if you've paid for it? They can't "not let" you go!

AllTheWatersTurnedToClouds · 04/11/2022 17:52

If it makes you feel better... I'm not in the UK and we got 6" of snow on Wed.

By Thurs morning they estimated a 35 hour wait for a tow if you got stuck or could get started.

So same day sounds like winning Grin

CornishTiger · 04/11/2022 17:53

The second you go to the toilet they’ll turn up.

I haven't paid for it. I will just have to go to the back of the queue for another one.

I did have a shower an hour ago in vain hope, but they have obviously cottoned on to my plan.

If you think it’s a flat battery is there absolutely no one who could have given you a jump start? Takes minutes to jump start a car.

Ordinarily yes, however as sods law would have it the people I know around here who have cars are not about.

I was listening to a podcast where the host was saying his daughter got a flat in the wilds of Norfolk at about 11pm. The AA (or who ever it was) didn’t turn up until 3am. Then said that he could only take them as far as Diss any not back to London. Dropped them off in a car park in Diss and left them to it.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 04/11/2022 18:06

Ooo, 6:32 pm. Sorry you miss your weekend though- I hope you get to treat yourself to something lovely

I think it depends on your membership. I pay for the fancy one with RAC that will get me home another one is a 20 mile tow or something. Fine for most of the time.

Babdoc · 04/11/2022 18:13

Is it too late for you to join the RAC? I have called them out twice, for a flat tyre when I couldn’t shift the wheel nuts - they took 12 minutes the first time and about 20 the second! I think they prioritise lone women, too.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 04/11/2022 18:15

I thought you were posting about alcoholics anonymous. Perhaps you'd have more luck with them!

After this I might do! Or if they still haven't turned up by morning. But presently it makes no difference, really I needed to be on the road by half 3 or so.

Well the most recent update is 7.15. Which is quite exciting as it's been the first time the wait will have been under 1 hour...

Oh dear, not that it's Friday and I'm desperate for a drink or anything, but I read that as you're waiting for Alcoholics Anonymous 🙄

OldTinHat · 04/11/2022 18:25

I've had basic AA coverage before and was always able to track them via their app. Can you do that?

That's what I'm doing (albeit via the website) which is how I can see the ETA changing all the time!

Can echo this abut the RAC.

Last March I packed the whole car up with luggage, loaded the dog, took a setting off photo for my holiday only for the car not to start! Dead battery.

I called the RAC and 2 hours later was on my way.
